"Brother, stop!"
Making a gesture for Di Ming to pause, An Nuan stepped back a little.
Realizing that he hadn’t picked up anything anyway, he decided to exit through the no-shopping lane. Di Ming watched as An Nuan walked away, feeling anxious but unable to leave the cart full of items behind; otherwise, Ye Shao would have nothing to eat at noon.
"An Nuan, don’t go! You have to wait for me!"
Di Ming waved at An Nuan. If he had a handkerchief in his hand at that moment, his tearful farewell would surely have moved anyone to tears.
He truly wore a sorrowful expression.
"Ye Shao, why did you assign me such a difficult task? Your wife is not just an ordinary woman who obediently listens to you. With her temper, even you might not be able to handle her."
Did you send me here just to be cannon fodder?
Di Ming felt utterly miserable, almost ready to sit on the ground and cry with a handkerchief in hand. He was like the cream in a sandwich cookie, caught between two pressures.
After finally waiting in a long line and paying, he held two shopping bags as he searched for An Nuan near the exit.
There were too many people, making it hard to find her.
After looking around, he spotted An Nuan near the counter, and a smile finally broke out on Di Ming's anxious face.
“An Nuan!”
Di Ming waved his hand, and An Nuan, seeing him struggling with a large plastic bag in each hand, couldn't help but shake her head and sigh. She walked up to him and extended her hand with an annoyed expression. “Let me help you with one.”
“No need, this is something men should do.”
Di Ming said with a silly grin.
Letting her help carry something? He wouldn’t dare. As long as she didn’t run off and could obediently go home to cook, he would be immensely grateful.
“Since it’s a man’s job, why doesn’t Ye Yunfeng do it?”
No one should be assigned to do specific tasks; she never believed that women couldn’t carry heavy objects. Being pretentious was only a luxury when one wasn’t in dire straits. When you had to rely on yourself, all pretentiousness was cast aside because no one would sympathize, and no one would help.
“Ye Shao is a person who handles big matters; let me take care of these small things.”
Di Ming continued to smile foolishly, and An Nuan took a deep breath. Fine, she conceded defeat. He always managed to come up with a pile of excuses for Ye Yunfeng; this assistant was certainly not hired in vain.
After getting into the car with Di Ming, before the vehicle even started moving, her phone buzzed.
An Nuan picked up her phone and saw that it was Shuo Shuo calling. Panic set in as she realized she hadn’t returned home all day and was staying out at night as well. Shuo Shuo was probably coming to confront her. How was she going to explain this?
Should she say she had been with Xing Hui’s Major Shareholder, or should she admit that the Major Shareholder of Xing Hui was actually her husband?
Carefully pressing the answer button, her hand trembled slightly as she brought the phone to her ear. “Shuo Shuo?”
Her voice carried a hint of uncertainty.
Upon hearing her voice, Shuo Shuo seemed a bit disappointed. “Nuan Nuan, I probably won’t be going back to the company for a while. Just yesterday, not long after you left, my brother dragged me back home. You can stay in the house for now; don’t worry about me.”
“Does your family know you’re hurt? Do you want me to go apologize? It’s all because of me that you got injured…”
“It’s fine, Nuan Nuan. Maybe being injured is for the best.”
“What do you mean?”
An Nuan didn’t understand why Shuo Shuo said that. Shuo Shuo laughed and replied, “It’s nothing. I’ll just rest at home for a few days. Once I’m healed, I’ll go back. But don’t be polite with Ye Meiqi and Xiao Ruoyu at the company; those two should have been dealt with a long time ago.”
