After dropping a box on my foot, scraping my hand on some dust, and tumbling headfirst while carrying a basin of water—splashing Qi Chen in the process—I finally reached my limit and decided to start dinner early. 0

Feeling guilty, I insisted on treating him and eventually took him to the cafeteria at Z University. It wasn't that I was stingy; it was just that the month was coming to an end, and I hadn't yet discussed how to split the rent with Qi Chen. Every little bit saved counted... 0

The food at the Z University cafeteria was quite good—crispy chicken, a meat platter, fragrant noodles, and stuffed pastries. In short, there were plenty of delicious options. 0

While we were in line to order, Qi Chen's phone rang. His expression immediately turned cold as he stepped aside to take the call. 0

Suddenly, someone grabbed me from behind by the neck. 0

"Hey, big goose!" a male voice boomed in my ear. 0

I nearly flipped my tray over his head. Turning around, I found it was none other than that rascal, Ren Zhiquan. 0

"Ren Zhiquan, are you trying to get yourself killed?" I twisted his ear in response. 0

Ren Zhiquan, my old classmate, was a typical show-off with a flair for drama. We had known each other since childhood; both of us were children of teachers—his dad taught us math while my mom taught them language arts. He would skip classes to fight, climb trees, and jump walls, yet his grades were never worse than mine, which often got me scolded by my mom. 0

We were what you might call "childhood sweethearts," though it felt more like "frenemies." 0

When Qi Chen returned, I was busy twisting Ren Zhiquan's ear until he was rolling his eyes. 0

"I surrender! I surrender!" Ren Zhiquan pleaded as he banged on the table. 0

I let go of him and looked up to see Qi Chen's expressionless face. The atmosphere grew a bit tense. 0

I glanced between Ren Zhiquan and Qi Chen, swallowed hard, and pushed some chicken strips toward Qi Chen. 0

"Qi Chen, try this chicken strip; the skin is crispy and the meat is tender..." 0

Qi Chen didn't move, but Ren Zhiquan seized one and stuffed it into his mouth. 0

"Big goose, you really understand me!" he exclaimed while offering another chicken strip towards my mouth. 0

“Come on, open your mouth, ah—” 0
“???” I felt a chill run down my spine. 0
Qi Chen let out a cold laugh. 0
“She bought it herself, does she need you to feed her?” 0
“Big goose?” Ren Zhiquan still wore that playful grin. 0
I thought to myself: “……” 0
If I didn’t know for sure that neither of them liked me, I would really think I was the female lead. 0
Ren Zhiquan could never like me; he was bright and cheerful, always surrounded by a group of sweet girls. 0
As for me, I was at my lowest point in looks, with thick black glasses, acne, and a ponytail… 0
And Qi Chen? Don’t even get me started; I liked his style, but with that cold expression on his face, it seemed hopeless. 0
“Enough!” I swatted Ren Zhiquan's hand away. “Aren’t you supposed to meet your roommate at the internet café? Why don’t you get lost?” 0
Ren Zhiquan’s expression changed slightly as he laughed nonchalantly, “Since you told me to leave, I guess I’ll go~” 0
With that, he tossed his backpack over his shoulder and walked away. 0
Qi Chen had finished peeling the egg and naturally placed it on my plate. 0
I picked up the egg, intending to put it back, but froze under his smiling gaze. 0
“Is it not okay for me to eat it…” 0
As I stuffed the egg into my mouth and started chewing, Qi Chen suddenly asked, “How did you know he was going to the internet café tonight?” 0
I choked on the egg yolk, nearly bringing tears to my eyes. 0
“I cough cough cough…” 0
Qi Chen seemed annoyed. 0
He turned his back and walked away with his white moonlight hairstyle, while I followed behind him. 0

He was a tall guy, over six feet, with long legs and big strides, making it hard for me, at five foot seven, to keep up. 0

Suddenly, he came to an abrupt stop, and I collided with his back, nearly breaking my nose. 0

"Ow!" I cried out, covering my nose as tears welled up in my eyes. 0

"Why are you following me?" he asked coldly. 0

"I'm just trying to go home! Why are you walking so fast?" I replied, feeling wronged. 0

"Hu Keyan, that's my home. I never said I wanted to share it with you; you assumed that on your own." 0

Assumed that on my own. 0

Those four words echoed in my ears like thunder. 0
