She stood by my bed with her arms crossed, looking at me sideways.
"Seriously? Who was it that said they could drink endlessly at the high school graduation party yesterday?
And now you're backing down? You can't be serious!"
I was fired up and jumped out of bed, declaring boldly,
"Who’s backing down? Come on! I'm a tough Northeastern girl,
and I can outdrink you three little girls any day! Loser goes down!"
In the end, after three drinks, I was the one sprawled out.
Woof.
I felt the table shaking, the ground trembling, my cheeks burning like I had a fever,
and all I could think about was Qi Chen's face.
I lay across Zhou Ziyan's lap, crying and pouring liquor into my mouth from the bottle.
"Woo woo woo, how did I end up in such a bizarre situation?
Why didn’t I seize the moment? Chug chug chug..."
"If I had known that once we switched places it would be goodbye, I should have pounced on him..."
"Wait, didn’t I kind of pounce on him? Was it my pink silk pajamas that weren’t sexy enough,
or is my 36C not alluring enough? That poker-faced ice mountain Qi Chen,
why can’t he get a clue? Woo woo woo... chug chug chug..."
"If he doesn’t like me, then why did he move near Z University?
And rent a dreamy princess room—does he have a pink obsession? Woo woo woo..."
"If he really is into pink, then why isn’t my pink silk pajamas working... chug chug chug..."
"Woo woo woo... woo woo woo..."
Cheng Xiaoyue and the others looked at me, exchanging glances.
Song Ya said, "Is this it? Endless drinking???"
"Excuse me?"
In the dim light of the bar, I felt as if I had entered an incredibly vivid dream.
In this dream, I found myself once again in the living room of Qi Chen's new home. The man who had troubled my mind stood before me, sporting dark circles under his eyes, looking astonished.
"Qi, Qi Chen!" I called out his name foolishly, throwing myself into his arms.
"Hey, hey!" He caught me, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
I was so weak that I could hardly stand, nearly collapsing against Qi Chen, burying my face in his neck and crying uncontrollably.
"Woo woo woo... Qi Chen, you bastard!"
"Is it because my pink silk pajamas aren't flashy enough, or my 36C isn't sexy enough? Why don't you like me? Are you blind? Woo woo woo..."
"Who, who said I don't like you..."
I thought I heard him stutter a response, but I couldn't tell if it was real or just my imagination.
Overwhelmed by sadness, I suddenly found strength from somewhere, straightening up and taking a step back to poke my finger at Qi Chen's chest.
Then I began to recite Li Bai's "Invitation to Wine":
"Throughout history, sages have all been lonely; only drinkers leave their names..."
"Come! Let's drink! We won't go home until we're drunk!"
Before I could finish my sentence, someone wrapped their arms around my waist and pressed me against the door.
"Hu Ke Yan! Who did you go out drinking with?!"
He grasped my chin and asked, and through my hazy vision, I saw the depth of his gaze, as if a fire was igniting in his eyes.
The arm wrapped around my waist tightened, and I felt him tremble, yet he still held back. But I didn’t want to hold back any longer. I tilted my head and kissed his lips.
The dream that followed became increasingly bizarre, with my consciousness flickering between clarity and haze. Just before my awareness sank into complete darkness, I seemed to hear Qi Chen's voice, low and husky, whispering in my ear: “I like you.”
“No, Hu Keyan, I love you.”
And then there was the soft mewing of a kitten.
“Meow~”
The next morning, I snuggled against the pillow in my arms, reluctant to wake up. Wait? Why did this pillow feel so different? To confirm, I rubbed against it again, and again, and again...
Why was it warm?!
I opened my eyes to find Qi Chen’s handsome face just inches away from mine. I realized with a jolt that my sinful hands were wrapped around his neck, my head buried in his chest, and my legs draped over him. I was entangled with Qi Chen like an octopus—still wearing that fitted little party dress.
