Heimu Mountain, located forty miles south of Yanlong Town, rises over five hundred meters high with steep terrain that makes it difficult to ascend.
Several years ago, Li Kaishan killed the former bandit leader of Heimu Mountain and took over the mountain as his stronghold, plundering the surrounding areas and causing a bloody uproar that stirred public outrage. The local government had sent Soldiers multiple times to eliminate him, but all returned empty-handed due to the mountain's treacherous landscape, which was easy to defend but hard to attack. There was only one mountain path on the eastern side; the other three sides were sheer cliffs.
After years of management by Li Kaishan, the stronghold had become impregnable, with rumors saying that the food stored on the mountain could last for ten years.
On the official road, a group of men rode in from a distance, each tall and holding a Pudao.
Occasional shouts, cries, and pleas for help could be heard.
As the view drew closer, it became clear that this group was pulling several carts of grain while escorting a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl and a middle-aged woman. Their clothes were tattered, exposing large patches of white skin, and their pitiful appearance made these hot-blooded men dry-mouthed with desire. They leered openly at them, uttering crude remarks and laughing heartily, wishing they could take the women right then and there.
The first two men rode on tall horses; the man on the left had dark skin and a scar running from his mouth to his cheek, giving him a fierce and terrifying look.
The other man wore green clothing and carried a three-foot-long sword at his waist. His bright eyes were accented by sharp eyebrows resembling swords. He had a rather gentle appearance, but if any bandits within hundreds of miles saw him, they would surely be terrified because he was none other than the ruthless Heimu Mountain Big Boss Li Kaishan, with his second-in-command Zhou Chang beside him.
“Second-in-Command, this woman is much better than the last one; she’s so fresh and tender. Do you think we can enjoy her after we return to the mountain?” said a man with thieving eyebrows and rat-like eyes, staring at the woman behind them.
“Hmph, Chen Er Gou, you can forget about it this time. Neither of these women can be touched,” replied Second-in-Command, lingering on the woman for a moment before glaring at him. He turned to Green-Clad Man and asked, “Big Brother, what’s their background?”
“Let’s talk about it when we get back to the mountain,” said Big Boss. “This time, Brothers, you’ve worked hard. If we complete this deal, each of you will receive one hundred taels as a reward. But before that, you all need to keep yourselves in check; otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude.” His voice turned cold and sinister at the end.
Upon hearing this, fear turned into a glimmer of hope on the faces of the girl and woman as they exchanged glances filled with unspoken bitterness.
The Bandits behind them were startled at first but then became excited. The heat in their gazes diminished as they realized this was a significant deal. In previous raids, after enjoying their spoils, Big Boss would allow his Brothers to have their share as well. However, this time he ordered that no one could act recklessly, indicating that these two women had considerable importance. Rather than seeking fleeting pleasure from them, they preferred to obtain substantial wealth in gold and silver along with Yuan Stone. After all, there were plenty of women in town; why risk their lives for temporary gratification?
In the carts, the woman and girl sighed in relief when they noticed that the men had withdrawn their gazes.
The woman looked disheveled with dirt smeared on her face and her clothes torn in several places. Despite her disheveled appearance, her clothing and shoes indicated that she came from a wealthy family.
The girl was slightly better; her clothes were messy but not torn. She wore a lace long dress, and her fair skin was as delicate and smooth as a peeled egg. Her eyebrows were like smoke, and a few drops of crystal tears clung to her long eyelashes, dripping down her cheeks onto her delicate chin. Her gaze was filled with fear, resembling that of a frightened rabbit, looking pitiful.
“Nursemaid, what are we going to do? Why hasn’t Father come to save me yet?” The girl, still in shock, buried her head in the woman’s arms and cried.
“Qing'er, be good. Nursemaid is here; don’t be afraid. We will be fine,” Nursemaid said, reaching out to gently pat the girl’s head. “Trust that the master already knows; he will come to rescue us soon.” She then wiped away the tears at the corners of the girl’s eyes.
The girl responded with a soft “mm,” glancing fearfully at the surrounding Mountain Bandits before tightly hugging Nursemaid.
Zhou Chang looked up; the scorching sun shone through thin clouds, illuminating the earth and reflecting a red glow that dazzled the eyes.
“Spit! This mountain is mine, this tree I planted. If you want to pass through here, leave behind some money for the road.”
Suddenly, two dark figures leaped out from the forest, blocking the path of the Bandits. One was a young man with dark skin and a build like an iron tower who shouted.
Buzz!
The air suddenly filled with the sound of rushing wind, booming like thunder, rolling like a tide. The horses panicked, rearing and neighing in chaos. The Mountain Bandits hurriedly shouted to calm their horses and then widened their eyes to look at the audacious robbers before bursting into laughter.
“Damn it! I wondered who had such skill to rob me; I didn’t expect it to be just two kids.”
“Hahaha! Damn it, you haven’t even grown hair yet and dare to imitate others by robbing?”
Chen Er Gou, startled by the sound of robbery, broke into a cold sweat. After steadying his horse, he saw it was just two kids and immediately showed a proud expression, shouting loudly: “Pah! Who do you two brats think you are to rob me? Don’t you know who we are?”
“Hmph! Bastard, I don’t care who you are! Listen carefully; I’m short on cash lately. Hand over your money immediately; otherwise, don’t think you can pass through here.” The black tower-like youth waved his hand fiercely with a fierce expression. These two were none other than Wang Yi and Niu Meng.
Beside them, Wang Yi, dressed in white and tall in stature, looked at the terrified mother and daughter behind the Bandits. A smile crept onto his lips as he said, “Hehe, and those two beauties—leave them for me too.” However, he was startled inside; wasn’t that tearful girl Chu Wanqing, sister of Chu Yixuan?
A wave of confusion suddenly arose in his heart. The Chu Family is one of the Three Great Families of Xiangzhou Prefecture, powerful and influential, with countless warriors. Although Li Kaishan is a Profound Realm Warrior, he shouldn't be so bold as to kidnap the Chu Family's daughter.
"Ah! You..." Chu Wanqing looked at Wang Yi and Niu Meng, her face filled with surprise, her embroidered eyes wide open as she pointed at Wang Yi.
Wang Yi's pupils constricted, and he felt as if cold water had been poured over him from head to toe, every hair on his body standing on end. At that moment, it seemed that Chu Wanqing recognized the two of them; he and Niu Meng were likely to be in serious trouble.
"Qing'er, what's wrong?" The Nursemaid saw Chu Wanqing's astonished expression and thought she was frightened, quickly trying to comfort her.
"I... I'm fine." Chu Wanqing covered her mouth and stared wide-eyed at Wang Yi.
Wang Yi let out a long sigh of relief in his heart; it seemed that Chu Wanqing wasn't foolish after all.
Zhou Chang laughed heartily upon hearing this: "Truly a young calf not afraid of tigers, daring to rob right under my nose. It seems you don't know how many eyes the Horse King has!"
"Wang Yi, who is the Horse King?" Niu Meng scratched his head and tilted his head in confusion.
"Pah! You big black guy, don’t play tricks in front of me. Hand over your money quickly; otherwise, you won't leave here today," Wang Yi spat and pointed at the big black guy, scolding him with a bit of a bandit-like demeanor.
"You two little brats, do you know who we are?" Chen Er Gou jumped out impatiently, proudly pointing at the Black Giant and the man in green. "You should be scared to come out; stand firm for Grandpa. This is our Heimu Mountain's famous Big Boss Li Kaishan, and this is Second-in-Command Zhou Chang." It seemed he could already imagine Wang Yi and Niu Meng's terrified expressions upon hearing this. However, to his disappointment, the two before him showed no signs of fear. Wang Yi and Niu Meng glanced at Li Kaishan and Zhou Chang, then exchanged looks before saying in unison, "Never heard of them?"
Although Wang Yi maintained a calm expression, his heart was extremely tense. If Li Kaishan noticed something amiss, it would be disastrous!
"What?" Chen Er Gou looked at Wang Yi and Niu Meng with a strange expression, feeling inexplicably frustrated that despite his introduction, they didn't even flinch.
"Impudent! How dare you speak to Big Boss like that!"
"Big Boss? Let me take care of these two brats."
"Let me handle this."
As soon as the bandits heard this, they became furious and shouted to kill Wang Yi and his companion, each one enraged like a bull. Heimu Mountain, under the leadership of Li Kaishan, had a notorious reputation within hundreds of miles, instilling fear in all who heard their name. No one expected to encounter these two blind fools today.
"Stop." Li Kaishan raised his hand to silence everyone and looked at Wang Yi, saying, "You are called Wang Yi, right?"
"Yes, enough with the nonsense, quickly hand over the silver," Wang Yi pretended to be timid and mustered his courage to say.
"Sure." Li Kaishan replied casually.
"Really?" Niu Meng exclaimed with joy, shouting, "Bastard! Then why are you hesitating? Quickly hand over the silver and Yuan Stone!"
Li Kaishan smiled nonchalantly and called out to a medium-built man beside him, "Han Li, come out." Then he looked at Wang Yi and tempted him, "If you two defeat him, I will give each of you one hundred Medium-Grade Origin Stones." His bright eyes narrowed slightly, making it hard to tell what he was thinking.
"Really... really?" Niu Meng swallowed hard and said eagerly.
Wang Yi watched this scene in secret admiration. Although he had previously told Niu Meng to stay calm and not reveal their intentions, he did not expect Niu Meng's acting skills to be so high. Hearing Li Kaishan's words made his heart race; he was certain that Li Kaishan intended to recruit them. One hundred Medium-Grade Origin Stones may not be much, but for these bandits, it was a considerable sum.
"You two brothers can rest assured. I, Li Kaishan, am a man of my word; once you defeat Han Li, I will give each of you one hundred Medium-Grade Origin Stones," Li Kaishan laughed heartily.
