Having been by his side for many years, there were both contributions and hardships. Mong Si's harm to Assistant Hu needed to come with a price; otherwise, it would leave Assistant Hu feeling cold inside. Although Mong Si never directly admitted to hurting Assistant Hu, his attitude and words indirectly reflected that he was responsible for Assistant Hu's fall down the stairs.
"Junjie..."
"Dad, everyone has their limits. I can be magnanimous and not pursue the matter of how he hurt me for your and Mom's sake, but I cannot let this go when it comes to Assistant Hu!"
He could advise himself to be generous, but he could not force Assistant Hu to accept his decision. Moreover, Assistant Hu was still in a deep coma; even Wei Sheng, who had encountered countless difficult cases, could not provide a clear answer. How could he easily forgive Mong Si on behalf of Assistant Hu?
"I understand, Dad. He has more than just Assistant Hu's case on his hands."
Having said this much to Zhu's father, Zhu Junjie felt that there was no need to hide anything further from him. He recounted what Mong Si had said to him in the private room today. "Don't worry; your mother and I will never agree to that. I've thought it through carefully—if he gets caught, I will do everything I can to save his life. I will accompany your mother to wherever he is serving his sentence."
This was the only solution he could think of at the moment. After finishing speaking, Zhu's father felt a slight sense of relief.
"He is your child; you both can decide."
Zhu Junjie did not say anything more to Zhu's father, hung up the phone, and went back to handling his affairs. After dealing with everything, he did not immediately return to the hospital room but instead stood in the smoking area, smoking one cigarette after another.
In Tong Tong's matter, it was Mong Si who saved her. One thing led to another; how should he repay what he owed Mong Si? His feelings toward Mong Si were complicated.
He wasn't sure if it was because he had read Mong Si's information or if it was the so-called twin connection, but lately, he had been having all sorts of strange dreams. In those dreams, many bad people would approach him wanting to torment him, and he would wake up startled each time.
Sometimes after waking up, he would forget most of the dream; other times, certain parts would stick with him. Upon reflection, those dreams were all about Mong Si's experiences.
Unable to fall back asleep after waking up from these dreams, he began to ponder aimlessly. He would curse himself; if there really was such a thing as a twin connection, why didn’t he feel anything when Mong Si was being tormented back then?
After cursing himself, he suddenly froze in place. In truth, he wasn't completely devoid of feelings—there were a few times when he felt utterly unwell as if he were dying and went to the hospital for a full check-up, but nothing was ever found wrong with him.
When he was a child, he was mischievous and tried various ways to skip school. After finishing an exam, his mother thought he had come up with another trick to avoid school. When she returned home with a Feather Duster, she chased him around the yard.
Seeing his mother was serious and fearing a beating, he ran as fast as he could. However, Zhu Junjie clearly remembered that while avoiding the Feather Duster, he hadn’t actually been hit, yet he felt unbearable pain and collapsed to the ground. That kind of pain was something he truly experienced.
At first, his mother didn’t believe he was really in pain and told him to stop pretending. He rolled on the ground in agony, his face pale and cold sweat pouring down. His mother, frightened by his condition, threw the Feather Duster aside and quickly called for someone to lift him into a car and take him to the hospital. The examination results were the same as before.
His mother looked at him and gritted her teeth, saying, “He acts so well; it’s a pity he doesn’t become an actor,” but she didn’t hit him again. Later, similar situations occurred a few more times. His mother suggested that he might be possessed by something unclean and took him to a temple for purification by the Buddha, but his condition did not improve.
He couldn’t remember when this situation finally disappeared. He later checked his hospitalization records. Fortunately, despite thinking he was an excellent actor during those years, his parents never neglected him; each time such an incident occurred, they would promptly take him to the hospital.
Even though they knew the examination results, they never treated those situations lightly. The fact that he could access his hospitalization records was thanks to his parents. The last time he experienced such a situation was at twenty-one when he fell ill at school. His teachers and classmates were frightened and quickly notified his parents.
That time, his parents specifically invited foreign experts for a consultation, and the conclusion was that there were still no abnormalities in his body. His parents were at a loss regarding this phenomenon, and he himself was confused as well. Each time he felt pain in his body, it came suddenly without any warning; it was hard to say where the pain originated.
After looking into Mong Si's information, he realized that perhaps those inexplicable pains without reason were actually the suffering he felt when Mong Si was harmed. After Mong Si took over the island at twenty-one, Zhu Junjie never experienced unexplained body aches again, further confirming this point.
Today, this situation reoccurred when Mong Si went to save Tong Tong; his legs trembled involuntarily from pain. He thought it was just excessive worry about Tong Tong's condition causing him to tense up and cramp his legs. However, once he learned about Mong Si's injuries, the answer to the troubling mystery that had haunted him for years finally emerged.
Zhu Junjie looked down at the cigarette in his hand that had burned down more than halfway; grayish-white smoke slowly rose as some images unfolded within the smoke.
He took a deep breath, extinguished the cigarette butt, and returned to the hospital room.
Inside the room, Tong Tong lay pale on the bed, while Song Lan sat quietly beside her, holding her hand with eyes full of pain and guilt.
Upon hearing footsteps, she composed her expression.
"Is Tong Tong awake?" Zhu Junjie asked.
Song Lan shook her head. "The nurse said she was given anesthesia and wouldn't wake up until at least tonight."
"It's better for her to sleep a little longer."
Tong Tong had injuries on her shoulder and neck, with the shoulder injury being quite severe; she could feel the extent of the pain, and sleeping would help alleviate it somewhat.
Zhu Junjie knew that Tong Tong couldn't hear him, yet he still spoke softly, fearing he might disturb her.
This time, Tong Tong was kidnapped due to matters involving the Li Family. Although Song Lan said that this incident was in the past, Zhu Junjie still stood there awkwardly like a child who had done something wrong, wanting to speak but afraid of upsetting Song Lan.
Song Lan had no desire to talk initially, but seeing him like this, she asked, "How are Mom and Junqiao?"
"They're both okay."
Zhu Junqiao was more seriously injured; the wound on the back of his head had been treated and the bleeding had stopped. The doctor mentioned there was a risk of concussion and that they needed to observe him for a while.
Zou Mu had rushed to the hospital upon learning about this to take care of them.
Zhu's mother had been traumatized but was now awake and felt much better upon learning that Tong Tong had been rescued.
Song Lan nodded slightly.
Zhu Junjie poured her a glass of water. "The doctor recommended by Wei Sheng has already contacted me. I asked him what parents should do if a child shows signs of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He said parents need to provide companionship and understanding, as well as have a correct understanding of what Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is. If we want the child to recover quickly, it requires cooperation between parents and doctors. I asked him for some books suitable for parents to read, and he sent me a list on my phone. I'll go buy them later."
