Chapter 0: Goodbye, Chasing Wind 0

On New Year's Eve, the palace was bustling with activity, with officials and concubines gathered together. 0

Amidst the sounds of singing and dancing, Wen Qingyu nervously clutched the jade cup in her hand while sitting next to Yan Zhi Xi. 0

A few days ago, a letter from Chasing Wind had arrived. 0

In the letter, it instructed that when the banquet reached its halfway point, Rui Xi and Wen Qingyu should find an excuse to leave the feast and meet him under the Pavilion in the Imperial Garden. 0

“Qing'er, are you feeling unwell?” Yan Zhi Xi asked with concern, and Wen Qingyu realized that wine had spilled from her jade cup. 0

Her heart raced as Yan Zhi Xi’s sharp gaze seemed to pierce through her. 0

Her palms were sweaty, yet she met his penetrating eyes. “I’m fine, just a bit dizzy.” 0

Yan Zhi Xi gently took her hand in a probing manner. “Then I will accompany you back to rest.” 0

“No need, everyone is here today; it wouldn’t be appropriate for you, Sovereign, to leave.” 0

“Yes, Your Majesty, I will accompany my sister back. You can rest assured that everything will be fine,” Rui Xi chimed in with a smile. 0

Yan Zhi Xi glanced at Rui Xi, then turned his gaze back to Wen Qingyu. “Then you should rest well; I will come to see you tonight.” 0

Wen Qingyu made a vague sound of acknowledgment and hurriedly left the banquet with Rui Xi. 0

Yan Zhi Xi squinted, watching Wen Qingyu's figure disappear behind the heavy curtains, before raising the glass of wine that Wen Qingyu had just finished and downing it in one gulp. 0

The Pavilion in the Imperial Garden was empty. 0

The moon illuminated the snowy ground brightly. Rui Xi whistled, the sound indistinguishable from the usual chirping of birds. Soon after, a swift figure appeared in the Pavilion. 0

"Brother," Rui Xi called happily in a lowered voice. 0

Chasing Wind also lowered his voice in response but kept his gaze fixed on Wen Qingyu. After a long while, he quietly remarked, "You've lost weight." 0

It wasn't an ambiguous statement, yet Wen Qingyu's face turned red with embarrassment. 0

Rui Xi mischievously observed the two and pretended to sulk, saying, "Brother only cares about Sister Qingyu. What about me?" 0

Distracted by Rui Xi's interruption, Chasing Wind withdrew his gaze awkwardly and said, "You’ve gained quite a bit." 0

"Chasing Wind, how is your injury?" Wen Qingyu asked, still concerned about Chasing Wind's previous wound, hesitating to inquire further. 0

"It's fine now," Chasing Wind replied with a slight smile. 0

This was the first time Wen Qingyu had seen Chasing Wind smile, leaving her momentarily stunned. Rui Xi waved her hand in front of her face mischievously and said, "Sister Qingyu, let's leave this place first. If there's anything to discuss, we can talk outside later." 0

Wen Qingyu nodded. 0

Chasing Wind naturally wrapped one arm around Rui Xi's waist. Just as he was about to reach out to Wen Qingyu, he paused and said, "Wen... Miss, I apologize." 0

Wen Qingyu smiled, "It's fine." 0

As Chasing Wind reached out, suddenly a rocket shot towards Rui Xi. Chasing Wind quickly pulled Rui Xi a few feet away to avoid the arrow. It all happened in an instant, and soldiers emerged from around them. 0

Yan Zhi Xi slowly walked over, his face hidden in the darkness, addressing Wen Qingyu, who stood alone in the snow, "Qing'er, come here." 0

His tone was calm, but Wen Qingyu sensed the long-lost coldness in his words. 0
