After asking whether she was male or female, San Chun firmly insisted that she was a man. The reason he thought she was a woman was probably due to poor eyesight. 0

Chengyang Jun did not delve into the matter further and simply regarded her as a man. 0

He believed she was skilled at grilling fish, so it was only natural to assume her culinary skills were excellent. Thus, she was assigned to the kitchen of Fengling Duke's Residence as an honorable chef. 0

However, in reality, Zhong Xue was completely mistaken; she only knew how to grill fish and nothing else. The village had limited food options, which honed her unique skill in grilling fish, but with her extremely lazy personality, how could she adapt to such an important role as a chef? 0

On her first day on the job, the kitchen steward wanted to test her abilities and asked, "Can you chop vegetables?" 0

She shook her head; was a kitchen knife easier to handle than a cleaver? 0

He then asked, "Can you cook?" 0

She shook her head again; did cooking require the use of a pot? 0

So… the steward had her tend the fire instead… 0

When San Chun was in Niushan Village, she had seen someone start a fire by tossing wood into the stove and then throwing in a fire starter, after which they just watched to ensure the flames didn't escape. 0

Although this method made it difficult for food to cook properly and could easily lead to burning down the house, she always thought that person looked cool doing it, especially the action of tossing in the fire starter—it was simply awesome. 0

She gathered a pile of firewood and imitated that person's actions by throwing in the fire starter. Immediately, the firewood ignited. 0

As time passed and the flames began to rise, she started trying to extinguish the fire. There was no water on the stove, only a basin of cooking oil… so… the flames leapt out of the stove and up to the roof. She began to scream for help and ran outside. 0

The entire kitchen caught fire; flames surged as servants rushed in to put it out amidst shouts and crashes, with the crackling sound of burning wood filling the air… 0

Watching the chaotic scene, San Chun sighed with her hands behind her back, essentially declaring that she indeed wasn't cut out to be a chef. 0

Having caused such a disaster, the kitchen steward naturally hated her for it. However, since she was sent by Chengyang Jun and had saved Lord Jun before, he didn't dare be too harsh. Nevertheless, after this incident, he would not entrust her with any tasks again. 0

San Chun felt relieved and sighed deeply. From that point on, she returned to living a carefree life like before. 0

Her only job became sitting at the kitchen door daydreaming, resting her chin on her hand while staring at a patch of grass in front of her, occasionally glancing at the sky. A white cloud floated by as a gentle breeze blew in, bringing with it a refreshing coolness that lifted her spirits. 0

She was used to such days, but while her body was relaxed, her stomach was hard to satisfy. The Steward acted as if she didn't exist, and during mealtime, they wouldn't call for her. If she happened to catch a meal, fine; if not, no one would care if she starved. 0

San Chun was very busy, busy daydreaming and waiting for someone. She was waiting for Qing to come pick her up, so she often forgot mealtime. No one here would shout for her to come home for dinner like Qing did at the village entrance. By the time she realized she was hungry, there were usually only leftovers left, and sometimes there weren't even any leftovers to be found. 0

When she was extremely hungry, she would eat some raw vegetables and fruits, and the Steward didn't mind her; he would inevitably gossip about her when reporting to Chengyang Jun. 0

At first, Chengyang Jun paid no attention to it, but over time he couldn't help but wonder what kind of person he had brought back. Why was her temperament so strange? 0

He initially thought she resembled that person somewhat, but now that he looked at her character alone, she seemed nothing like them. The previous person wouldn't daydream aimlessly or accidentally set the kitchen on fire. Of course, he never entered the kitchen; even if he did, he would just stand aside and direct others. 0

Listening to the Steward continuously describe how she was, he suddenly felt an urge to see her. He put down the Bamboo Slip and ordered someone to bring San Chun over; he wanted to see how this person could be so idle while also being responsible. 0

Since entering the residence, the mosquito bites on her body had long disappeared. She had stuck a piece of pigskin as a fake scar on her face and used a Disguise Pill to darken her complexion, making her look as if she had rolled in a pile of charcoal three times. 0

When Chengyang Jun saw her, he looked around several times but couldn't recognize who she was. 0

"Have I seen you before?" 0

"Yes. I am the one brought back by Lord Jun." 0

"How come you look so different from before?" Back then, although she was ugly, she was still somewhat presentable; now she could be called an absolute mess. She looked so dark! 0

San Chun straightened up and confidently replied, "The scorching sun caused this." It was just that every time she was under the sun lately, she ended up getting tanned. 0

When Chengyang Jun saw her that day, she had been dodging around; he didn't have a deep memory of her original appearance and couldn't tell whether it was the tan that made the scars disappear or if it was just the tan itself. 0

He hadn't really cared much about her looks; he just found her quite interesting because her eyes resembled those of someone in his heart. Since she liked daydreaming, he simply assigned her a job where she could do just that—organizing the Library. 0

After all, many of the books in the Library were rarely used again; she could take her time organizing them and have plenty of time to daydream. 0

San Chun really liked this job; life in the Library was very quiet with no one disturbing her. Meals were delivered on time as well. Compared to being ignored in the kitchen, life in the Library felt like heaven. 0

Once here, San Chun suddenly swept away her previous laziness and became proactive. While organizing the books, she unexpectedly discovered that many of them were ones she had read before. 0

This is truly an exhilarating discovery! It's like a long-awaited rain finally falling on a parched land, a withered heart finally finding the source of motivation to beat again. 0

She couldn't help but laugh out loud, then cupped her face in delight. It turns out she is also a knowledgeable person. From now on, if anyone dares to say she is all show and no substance, she would force them to drink excrement until their bellies are full. 0

Although the past two years in Niushan Village have been peaceful, her heart has always felt unanchored. She didn't know who she was, what she should do, or even what she wanted. But now, as she reads these scrolls, a sudden calmness washes over her; her emotions slowly settle, and it seems her mind is clearer. She vaguely remembers being forced by someone in the past to read these scrolls and memorize all the classic texts within. 0

She wondered why, as a woman, she had to study these scrolls and learn swordsmanship. It seemed someone wanted to cultivate her, to make her invincible and able to compete with men. 0

But who that person was, she couldn't recall. Perhaps it was her parents or someone else entirely. However, looking at it this way, her identity became even more of a mystery; the speculation that she might be the daughter of a noble family seemed to evaporate. 0

Which noble family would teach their daughter not even basic cooking and sewing skills while having her learn things that women shouldn't? It would be strange for such a woman to find a husband. 0

Could it be that her parents taught her this way just so she wouldn't marry? 0

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't figure out the reasoning behind it. It seemed necessary for her to visit the Wei Kingdom's military. That identity token should be the key to discovering her identity, or perhaps there are records in the military that could reveal who her parents were, where they lived, and details about three generations of her ancestors... 0

With no desire to continue reading, she rolled up the scrolls and began to daydream, wondering what Chengyang Jun would think if she expressed her desire to join the military. 0
