San Chun nodded, "They are not wrong." This mountain was never theirs to begin with.
As soon as the words fell, she received several disdainful looks, particularly from Yuzhen, though others did not have the courage to do the same.
San Chun smiled; she only wanted to lighten the heavy atmosphere. It was fine if no one appreciated it.
Ji Xun asked, "Who are those people?"
The soldier replied, "It's unclear, but they seem to be warriors from some country, and their skills are exceptional. We can't match them; we can only send some people to hold them off while others escort the lady down the mountain."
San Chun speculated that these were likely people from a certain country who knew she and Ji Xun were on the mountain and intended to kidnap them. She just didn't know whether they were after her or Ji Xun.
Considering the current countries, there weren't many with such strength. Zhao and Wei Kingdom were definitely out of the question, and Korea had no grievances with her or Ji Xun, unless they were forced to act due to being beaten badly by Zhong Xue. Qi State had nearly been destroyed in their last battle and might not have the spirit for this; even if they did, they wouldn't dare provoke Zhao or Wei. That left Yan and Chu.
As a Yan People, she certainly hoped that Uncle Qi wouldn't come after her, while Chu was the most likely to seek revenge.
With a sigh, she realized that no matter which country it was, they were likely in grave danger today.
They rushed down the mountain, but Master Yuzhen could no longer run and was supported by two guards. As soon as they reached the foot of the mountain, a group of people in black surrounded them.
These individuals were dressed differently from those who had charged up the mountain; they were clearly not from the same group but obviously had ill intentions toward them.
San Chun drew her sword and led Winter Bamboo Shoot ahead to clear a path, urging the guards protecting Ji Xun and Master Yuzhen to move quickly. From their gazes, she sensed that these people's target was her; no one seemed interested in pursuing Ji Xun, which relieved her somewhat.
Ji Xun refused to leave, struggling to break free from the guards. Following San Chun's orders, none of them dared to let him go, so they continued to carry him away.
He moved further away while calling out, "San Chun, you must come back. You must."
San Chun smiled wryly; whether she could escape was not up to her.
The black-clad individuals were highly skilled; she and Winter Bamboo Shoot were no match for them. After only a short while of fighting, they found themselves at a disadvantage. Fortunately, these people seemed intent on capturing them alive and did not strike too ruthlessly.
As the fight dragged on, she and Winter Bamboo Shoot were completely exhausted, drenched in sweat. It seemed these people were employing a wheel tactic, coming at them wave after wave, trying to wear them down until they could capture them one by one.
Eventually, they were too tired to continue fighting. San Chun dropped her sword and collapsed onto the ground. "Hey, who sent you to capture us?"
"You'll find out when you meet them."
A man in black lifted her up while two others came over to bind them.
Winter Bamboo Shoot's face was pale as she tightly grasped San Chun's sleeve. "Miss, what should we do?"
San Chun forced a smile. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it; we won't die that quickly."
The leading man in black looked at her with some appreciation. "I didn't expect a girl like you to be so composed."
San Chun sighed lightly. She wasn't composed; she knew these people wouldn't kill her so soon. They probably intended to use her to threaten someone.
As she expected, she and Winter Bamboo Shoot were thrown into a carriage, which traveled for several miles before stopping.
When they got out of the carriage and saw Yan Ping standing not far away, she immediately realized her earlier intuition had been completely off. Moreover, she knew she was in deep trouble.
Upon seeing her, Yan Ping wore a smile that seemed ready to bite someone. He called out, "Oh, isn't this Consort Chun? It's been years; how have you been?"
San Chun forced a smile; she wanted to laugh, but seeing him made it impossible for her to genuinely smile.
After a moment, she managed to normalize her expression and said, "Lord Chancellor brought me here; it can't just be for a reunion."
Yan Ping chuckled lightly. "No need to call me Chancellor anymore; I'm just an ordinary commoner now."
Inside, she felt like her heart was breaking. She had a deep-seated grudge against him for the fall of her country; it was unlikely she'd come out of his hands unscathed. It was truly remarkable how he could still smile so happily after losing his nation. But that was just his nature— the more he hated someone, the happier he would smile at them.
San Chun tactfully changed her form of address. "Lord Yan, what do you intend to do with me?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to exchange you for someone else."
"King Chu Song Ren?"
Yan Ping smiled, "You are quite clever, Girl."
Thinking about Zhong Xue wanting to find ten people to insult Song Ren ten times each, she felt a sense of helplessness. She didn't know if Song Ren could withstand such humiliation, and she hoped he wouldn't really commit suicide. If he died, her life would be over too.
In front of Yan Ping, any cleverness was unnecessary; she simply stopped trying to think of ways to escape and obediently cooperated with him. If he wanted to go east, she would definitely not go west. She knew well that there were two Master level Sword Masters following him, and struggling in front of such experts would be futile.
Seeing that she was sensible, Yan Ping didn't make things difficult for her; he only told her that if she could bring Song Ren back, he would let her go. However, she felt that this matter wasn't so easy. Song Ren was in her hands, and those people from Chu must hate her deeply. Just by looking at the way those two Masters looked at her earlier, it was clear that as long as Song Ren could return, they would definitely want to torture her mercilessly.
She had once asked Yan Ping, why did they remain loyal to Song Ren even after the fall of the Chu state?
Yan Ping replied, "Once a master, always a master. The king has shown me kindness; how could I betray my master in times of danger?"
Having known Yan Ping for so long, she had always thought of him as a cunning person. It was only now that she felt a bit of admiration for him; she didn't expect him to be so loyal to his master, even though his master wasn't exactly impressive.
After traveling a few miles in the carriage, they unexpectedly encountered a merchant caravan.
They were from Yan People. It wasn't their clothing that gave them away but their accent. Hearing familiar sounds in a foreign land made San Chun very happy; she couldn't help but lift the curtain to look outside and then saw Young Master Rong.
She exclaimed in surprise, "Young Master Rong."
Young Master Rong glanced at her but seemed not to see her at all as he continued on with the caravan.
As soon as they left, Yan Ping lifted the curtain and shouted at her, "What kind of trick are you playing?"
She shrugged, "Nothing much, just saw someone familiar and said hello."
Yan Ping snorted coldly, "Let me tell you, don't play any tricks; otherwise, don't expect to live so comfortably."
San Chun nodded busily, "Actually, I'm not very familiar with him either. Didn't you see that he completely ignored me?" But she thought to herself, she wondered how he would feel about her not wanting to have a good life?
Yan Ping lowered the carriage curtain and ordered the driver to hurry up.
San Chun sat alone in the carriage, feeling sulky. She secretly cursed Young Master Rong for being ungrateful; he clearly saw her but didn't even greet her, acting as if nothing happened.
They traveled for a while, and the journey was surprisingly calm; they didn't encounter any Robber or anything, which left her feeling quite disappointed.
When they arrived at Yan Prefecture, they were not far from Korea. At this moment, Zhong Xue was fighting in Korea, so if she wanted to find him, she would have to go there. However, Yan Ping was certainly not foolish enough to send her right into the enemy's hands.
In Yan Prefecture, they found an inn to stay at. Yan Ping's current identity was quite awkward; he didn't dare to show himself openly. Their group disguised themselves as a merchant caravan, and the goods they carried were also disguised as merchandise.
San Chun was arranged to stay alone in a room; even Winter Bamboo Shoot wasn't allowed to be with her. The two were kept separately, probably out of fear that they would conspire to escape.
After traveling for several days, this was the first time she had a bed to sleep on. San Chun lay down and fell asleep immediately. In the middle of the night, a sudden sound of fighting came from outside. After being so frightened recently, she became particularly sensitive to any noise.
As soon as she heard the commotion, she quickly jumped out of bed. She didn't dare to push open the door and run outside; instead, she opened a crack in the window and peeked out. She saw that many black-clad figures had appeared under the moonlight and were fiercely battling with the warriors led by Yan Ping.
Although those people were dressed in tight-fitting clothes, their movements were coordinated and orderly, accompanied by a whole team of archers; they seemed like military personnel.
Could it be that Zhong Xue knew she had been captured and specifically came to rescue her? But thinking about it again, it seemed impossible; he was so far away—how could he possibly know what was happening here?
The archers released a volley of arrows, and Yan Ping's warriors were unable to withstand them at all; they were retreating step by step. Yan Ping shouted, "Quickly, bring those two women here."
No matter who those people were, they should be here to rescue her. And she also heard Yan Ping ordering someone to come in and capture her; her immediate priority was self-preservation.
San Chun looked around the room for something she could use to defend herself but found nothing useful. In desperation, she grabbed two handfuls of dirt from the ground.
The floor of an inn in such a place wouldn't be very smooth; it couldn't possibly be paved with stone slabs like in a grand mansion. She easily scooped up a handful.
Just then, two figures rushed in from outside, moving as fast as lightning; they looked like those two Masters. As soon as they entered the room, they split left and right and reached for her arms.
Just as they were about to get close, San Chun suddenly threw up a handful of dirt and closed her eyes at the same time.
She aimed at their eyes, and those two Masters never expected that a Lady Junhou would use such a tactic. Caught off guard, they ended up blinding themselves.
San Chun seized the opportunity, leaped over them, and ran away.
Back then, Qing had been with her, and there were many ways to escape. As long as it was advantageous, there was no need to worry about being less than honorable. At that time, he even mocked her, saying that since she was a woman and not a gentleman, it didn't matter if she used cunning and ruthless methods as long as she could survive.
She had agreed with him then and hoped to experience human behavior in her lifetime to see what it was really like.
It was also after witnessing Uncle Qi's warrior use lime to blind Zhong Xue that she got the inspiration to use dirt against the two Masters.
She ran outside, and the two Masters had already chased after her, loudly cursing San Chun for being treacherous.
San Chun stuck out her tongue and thought to herself that if she were truly a woman, what she gave birth to would be human. She wondered if that would infuriate them.
