Xu Yan was amused to realize the little girl's thoughts for the first time, recalling her earlier flustered demeanor.
"What are you grinning about so early in the morning?" A familiar, annoying voice suddenly rang out from above. Looking up, he saw Lum Ming standing beside him with a plate, almost resting it on Xu Yan's head.
For some reason, Lum Ming had suddenly gone silent, staring blankly like a dazed goose.
He had just spotted a bowl of rice noodles on the table, which was likely flavored with spicy pepper sauce.
As he glanced at the clear broth rice noodles in front of Xu Yan, he remembered the "heartfelt breakfast" that had been delivered earlier that morning, still sitting in the guest room.
"Wait a minute! Don’t eat that just yet; there’s something better waiting for you. Just hold on!" He hurriedly shoved the plate into Xu Yan's arms and dashed off toward the guest room, ignoring the irritation of those behind him.
Xu Yan thought this person was acting crazy again so early in the morning and considered throwing the plate at him. However, basic decency held back his murderous intent.
Before long, he saw Lum Ming rushing back with a large takeout bag heading toward the heating area.
What terrible luck to encounter such a fool so early in the day.
He dismissed Lum Ming's words from his mind. By the time Lum Ming returned with his "good stuff," half of Xu Yan's rice noodles had already vanished.
"Come on, eat this! You absolutely won't guess who brought it!" Xu Yan observed Lum Ming's intentionally mysterious demeanor and thought he looked even more foolish, making him less inclined to answer his questions.
"Take a guess! You’ll never figure it out!" Lum Ming grew more anxious at Xu Yan's calmness and snatched away his chopsticks, forcing Xu Yan to focus intently on him, despite the undeniable killing intent in his gaze.
"What's wrong? Did your girlfriend buy this?"
"What? No way! I don't even have a girlfriend, come on, guess again!"
"Oh, you still don't have a girlfriend? Then it can't be my girlfriend who bought it, right?" The tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Xu Yan was sure that the first to spill the beans would definitely be Lum Ming, that big mouth.
"Brother Ye! It's Brother Ye! Can you believe it? It was delivered this morning, can you imagine? Around five or six o'clock, how terrifying! What's even scarier is that he said he bought it last night. The scariest part is that Brother Ye never eats spicy hot pot stuff. I mean, isn't that suspicious? Isn't it strange?"
His expression was like someone who had just discovered a new human civilization.
However, it did pique his curiosity. If what Lum Ming said was true, then this situation was indeed odd. Or rather, what story had unfolded for Brother Ye last night?
"Where's Brother Ye?" Xu Yan suddenly realized that the person who usually showed up early for breakfast was nowhere to be seen today.
"Maybe he's still asleep. Based on our assumptions, Brother Ye probably didn't get much sleep last night." Without needing to look up, Xu Yan could already imagine the smug expression on Lum Ming's face.
"That's not us; it's just you. I'm not going to sink to your level."
"What is this? Is it really spicy hot pot from last night? Can we still eat it?" Xu Yan looked at the bowl, which was floating with a layer of nearly invisible red oil, and felt his stomach already burning.
"It should still be okay," Lum Ming said as he leaned in to take a deep whiff. "Mmm, smells great—such a kick from the chili oil."
"Hey, has Tongtong gotten up yet? Doesn't she love spicy hot pot and snail noodles? Call her down to eat." As she spoke, she reached for her phone to make the call.
"Don't bother; she left early this morning, much earlier than you."
"Left early? That's not like her. What could she be up to?"
