"We must hold them off to give Technical Sergeant time to repair the shield!" Leo urgently urged, he and Grace tightly gripping their simulated guns, aiming at the approaching Xyphos. 0

The shield in front of them displayed ominous cracks, and with each impact from the Xyphos, the entire structure trembled, like vibrations on a spider web, making it worrisome that it could collapse at any moment. 0

"Hurry up, hurry up..." Technical sergeant He gritted his teeth as his welding machine swiftly moved between the broken capacitor and circuit, sparks flying. He stole a glance at his watch, only to see the second hand seemingly moving at an unusually slow pace. Two minutes had already passed, but he still needed more time. 0

Leo and Grace's simulated gun's battery alarm started to sound, forcing them to be more careful in choosing their targets to shoot. They couldn't afford to waste any bullets. 0

"It's been two minutes, what's the status?" Leo asked anxiously through the earpiece. 0

"Give me one more minute! I still need to complete the final connection!" Technical sergeant responded almost groaning. 0

At that moment, the cracks in the shield suddenly widened, like a piece of glass about to shatter. More Xyphos tried to pass through the cracks, like a flood of monstrous creatures pouring out. Leo and Grace fired off the last of their simulated gun's power, desperately trying to keep these aliens out of the shield. 0

"It's done! The shield is rebooting!" the technical sergeant finally shouted, frantically pressing a large red start button. 0

A beam of light sprayed out from the crack in the shield, gradually filling the gap as if a scar was self-healing. However, the emergency repair made the shield appear particularly fragile, as if it could collapse again at any moment. 0

"We did it, but this repair is temporary. We need to find a more long-term solution," Technical Sergeant wiped the sweat from his forehead, his face showing a tired but satisfied smile. 0

"Temporary solutions are always better than none. Thank you, we have survived this moment," Leo said, exchanging a knowing look with Grace, acknowledging that while the immediate challenge had passed, a greater one was looming ahead. 0

After the signal flare, an armored vehicle raced through the dust, its machine gun flashing on the roof. The vehicle came to a stop, and a group of heavily armed soldiers quickly jumped out, forming a strict tactical formation. 0

The car door opened, and a middle-aged man in a Colonel military uniform stepped out, followed closely by an instructor with a displeased expression on his face. 0

The Colonel glared at Leo, Grace, and the Technical sergeant, with a cold sneer on his lips. "What kind of garbage management is this? Because of your negligence, we almost lost an important defense line. Who messed up the capacitor?" 0

Leo and Grace exchanged a quick glance, but before they could speak, the new recruit nervously stepped forward. 0

"It's me, Colonel," the new recruit said dejectedly. 0

"Which unit are you from? Where is your captain?" the Colonel asked sternly. 0

Grace walked out without hesitation and stood next to the new recruit. "He is under my responsibility, Colonel." 0

Colonel turned to Grace, his gaze sharp as a knife. "So, you are the person in charge of this incident?" 0

"Yes, Colonel. But I must explain, this was an emergency situation, and we were all working hard to prevent Xyphos's attack. Despite some mistakes, we ultimately held the line." 0

Colonel sneered. "We held it? At what cost? Do you call this a victory?" 0

"I don't call this a victory, Colonel. But at least we're still here, and the defense line hasn't been breached," Grace replied firmly. 0

Colonel stared at Grace and the new recruit intently, then let out a sigh. "I'm assigning both of you to clean the armory for a month, and new recruit, I suggest you learn how to handle equipment properly. You might not be so lucky next time." 0

"Yes, Colonel," Grace and the new recruit responded in unison. 0

Colonel turned back to the armored vehicle, followed by the instructor. The vehicle started and headed towards the frontline, leaving behind a cloud of dust and three young soldiers contemplating their respective futures and responsibilities. 0

Leo walked over to Grace and the new recruit and said quietly, "This almost disastrous experience has taught us a valuable lesson. We need to be more united and more cautious." 0

Grace nodded and patted the shoulder of the new recruit. "Yes, whatever challenges come our way, we will face them together." 0

The camp hall was decorated afresh in the evening, as if to celebrate the victory of a hard-fought battle. Senior officers walked to the front, each wearing a serious yet joyful expression, knowing that the young soldiers before them would be the future backbone of the Border Defense Department. 0

Leo, Grace, and Mike stood together, feeling a mix of emotions. As their names were called, they walked to the front of the stage. Leo felt the badge on his chest was a symbol of his journey, a validation of every struggle and effort he had made along the way. 0

The instructors stepped onto the stage, their expressions softened. One of them spoke, "We're sorry if we were too strict with you before. It was because we wanted you to survive on the real battlefield and become true warriors." 0

Leo looked up at the instructor and smiled, saying, "Instructor, we understand. In fact, we also want to thank you. It is your strictness that has made us grow so rapidly and better prepared to face the challenges ahead." 0

Grace and Mike also nodded in agreement and shook hands tightly with the instructors. This handshake was not only a release from past friction, but also an anticipation of future challenges. 0

After the ceremony, light music filled the hall as the soldiers gathered to enjoy the various delicacies and drinks laid out at the banquet. Leo, Grace, and Mike sat around a round table, facing each other and engaging in conversation. 0

"I never thought we would make it through all of this and finally become true members of the unit," Leo said emotionally, raising his glass and looking at Grace and Mike. 0

Grace also raised her glass and responded, "Yes, it has been a really tough journey. But what's important is that we've come through it together." 0

Mike smiled and raised his glass too, "No matter what the future holds, we are ready for it." 0

Three wine glasses lightly clinked together, the crisp sound echoing in the hall. In that moment, their hearts were filled with indescribable emotions, a strong mix of trust, courage, and determination. 0

At the end of the banquet, Leo stood up and addressed the whole room: "Tomorrow, we will face more challenges and uncertainties. But no matter what, we are ready. We will step into that unknown future together and face all the difficulties as one." 0

The whole audience erupted into enthusiastic applause. Everyone knew that this was not just an affirmation of Leo, Grace, and Mike, but also of their own beliefs and expectations for the entire Border Defense Department. In this moment, they were no longer new recruits, but warriors about to step onto a bigger stage, moving forward towards the future with shared dreams and expectations. 0
