After gaining fame in the First War, Kairuoka was promoted to Squad Leader of Sidolan, a subordinate squad under the Kairo Battleship's Mecha Light Brigade of the Mars Alliance.
This was supposed to be a promotion, but Kairuoka couldn't feel optimistic—because the mechas in their squad were still deployed as the outdated NPC93 model from fifty years ago, which had limited combat capability, and the Fleet's budget was quite tight. Reluctantly, after repeated efforts to advocate for improvements following his appointment, Kairuoka finally managed to have relevant experts dispatched. Based on recent research on enemy mechas, they equipped this old-fashioned mecha squad with a new Electronic Disruption System that was still in the experimental stage. Within a few days, Kairuoka learned from complaints among his squad members that all the cutting-edge mechas had been assigned to other squads.
Kairuoka was a calm and composed person, so he naturally did not get angry over trivial matters. After some contemplation, he decided to divide the mechas in his squad into groups of three for combat, using one group as a unit to engage an enemy mecha.
The combat tactic was as follows: two mechas would release electromagnetic waves against an enemy mecha to disrupt and damage its defense systems while one mecha took the opportunity to launch a missile attack. At the moment of the first missile strike, the two mechas engaged in electronic warfare would each fire another missile, allowing three missiles to hit a single target simultaneously.
The tactics employed by Kairuoka's squad led to impressive results for the outdated mechas, gradually improving their ranking within the unit and garnering increasing attention from higher-ups.
As a result, not long after, enemy mechas also became less arrogant and began employing a similar tactic of attacking in groups of three.
Kairuoka then promptly adjusted to a wolf pack strategy, luring enemy groups of mechas into ambush points in the sky and attacking with two to three times their numbers. Each battle consistently resulted in tactical victories.
One battle after another established Kairuoka's reputation. The mere mention of Kairuoka or Sidolan made enemies grit their teeth in anger. As the war progressed, fewer enemy mechas were deployed from their Battleship Base, eventually retreating entirely into their base. Meanwhile, the number of Mars Alliance warship mechas increased, and Kairuoka's Sidoran Squadron also upgraded to new models, putting the invaders at a complete disadvantage.
However, the powerful Battleship Base of the aliens resembled a massive mobile city with formidable combat strength and impenetrable defenses, preventing Martian mechas from approaching and forcing them to patrol outside the alien base's protective shield. The Mars Alliance military attempted various weapon attacks but could not shake this behemoth. The external defenses of this alien Battleship Base appeared nearly flawless; eliminating it from outside seemed almost impossible. After much discussion in strategic meetings, it was decided to attempt an internal infiltration to find its weak points.
The Mars Alliance Headquarters quickly dispatched their best Special Forces to execute this plan and infiltrate the enemy base. However, this unit was discovered by Capricornian forces while still on the outskirts of the base and was completely annihilated. The Capricornians quickly retaliated by sending elite troops to harass Mars but faced total destruction as well.
Both sides entered a stalemate where today one side would send mechas to disrupt within the other's defensive zone while tomorrow they would send mechas to patrol around each other's bases. Neither could defeat the other; thus, they remained locked in this deadlock year after year.
Of course, war is the best catalyst for technological advancement. Throughout this process, both sides continuously studied each other and rolled out new weapons and equipment. Mechas rapidly evolved through practical combat experience, making significant advancements in stealth, mobility, electronic warfare, electromagnetic wave combat, and superluminal cruising capabilities. At the same time, weapons equipped on mechas meant that their defenses were no longer invulnerable; both sides suffered considerable damage whenever they engaged in battle.
Mars Alliance took advantage of the favorable conditions. Although the mechs were damaged quickly, they were also replenished rapidly. The Capricornian mechs, on the other hand, faced diminishing supplies due to their long-distance journey from tens of thousands of light-years away. By the end, the Capricornian Mecha Unit participated less in large-scale battles and operated more like special forces, deployed only for specific missions.
As the war progressed into its third year, Kairuoka's mech squadron had been completely replaced with brand new models. Despite this, Kairuoka felt increasingly burdened by the prolonged and stalemated conflict. The war's toll on the planet was largely reflected in the populace: increasingly complex taxes, a declining economy, and escalating public discontent made this man yearn to end the chaos as soon as possible.
During three years of continuous research on the Capricornians Fleet base, Kairuoka pondered a question—how could the Capricornians base remain in Mars' outer orbit for an extended period, far from their home planet? There must be a supply line providing long-term support to the base; otherwise, how could their military supplies arrive so promptly?
To prove his theory, Kairuoka took risks and conducted reconnaissance missions repeatedly. Finally, during an infiltration three years later, he discovered a massive logistics Fleet hidden beneath the Capricornian Battleship base. This Fleet was equipped with advanced stealth materials and regularly flew to deliver supplies to the base.
Through his personal investigation, Kairuoka found that this Fleet and its escort units were well-equipped. There were ten state-of-the-art photonic wave warships alone, and the number of advanced mechs was several times that of his own squadron. Clearly, the Capricornians prioritized supplying this part above all else.
Thus, Kairuoka requested reinforcements from the Mars Alliance Headquarters to eliminate this alien logistics unit. To his surprise, his request was denied! It turned out that due to economic decline caused by the war and escalating public discontent on Mars, the thinking at Mars Alliance Headquarters had shifted from aggressive to conservative. They now sought to achieve peace through negotiations at minimal cost, and these peace talks had already begun.
At this moment, it seemed that only Chairman of the Mars Alliance Ferdio supported Kairuoka's idea of targeting the Capricornian supply line. However, most politicians opposed it, and ultimately, the proposal was shelved.
Just then, Mars developed a super-small stealth single-person adhesive mech that entered the experimental phase. Using his authority, Ferdio secured special approval from the Mars Alliance Headquarters, allocating ten New-Style Adhesive Mecha to Kairuoka's Sidoran Squadron.
Kairuoka immediately decided to use them for ambushes and harassment against the Capricornian supply line, aiming at least to instill concern in the Capricornians regarding the security of their supply routes and strengthen Mars' position in peace negotiations.
