As the robot waiter exited the room, Kairuot and Xiaoli began to plan how to infiltrate the Capricorn Palace, locate the palace's prison, investigate the whereabouts of Fair Connie, and rescue Fairleya.
The entire Capricorn Palace was imprinted in Kairuot's mind. He closed his eyes and carefully recalled it, scanning for any place that resembled a prison. Feeling a hint of doubt, he sat down at the table and picked up a writing board to start drawing a map.
The palace was too vast; they could only analyze it in small sections. They began their analysis from a corner on the east side near the Capricorn Grand Hotel. After a thorough mental search, they concluded that this area was not an ideal location for a prison because it was too close to the Capricorn Grand Hotel. Rooms facing the palace from the hotel could see all activities below, making it impossible for a prison to be exposed to tourists.
Next, they shifted their focus upward to an exquisite artificial pool, which was also the largest water body on the planet. Such beauty could not possibly serve as a prison. After more than an hour of analysis, they had nearly examined the entire palace, leaving only the northern corner of the palace. The main hall in this northern corner looked similar to other areas, but there were two relatively thick metal poles standing on either side of the courtyard, with something resembling lanterns hanging from their brackets.
Kairuot kept pondering: "What is the purpose of these metal poles?" He reviewed the surveillance listings from his small box again and finally discovered that there was an all-encompassing surveillance system in the palace called Palace North Corner Surveillance. Excitedly, he told Xiaoli, "I found the prison in the palace; it's located in the northern corner."
Xiaoli was skeptical. "Do you have any evidence?"
Kairuot sketched out the layout of the northern corner and explained to Xiaoli: "Look at this northern corner; its architectural planning is similar to other areas, but it lacks greenery and decoration—that's one; second, there are no dragon carvings on the roof, which is quite obvious; third, the courtyard's walls are much taller than usual. Fourth, those two tall metal poles are actually surveillance for monitoring prisoners. I just checked that this surveillance is all-encompassing and is called Palace North Corner Surveillance."
Xiaoli found his analysis reasonable and nodded in agreement.
They quickly decided to act later that night. However, moving in and out of Capricorn Grand Hotel at midnight would be very inconvenient. They decided to go out now and find a quiet nightclub to drink and chat.
With their plan set, they immediately took action. Kairuot and Xiaoli shouldered their backpacks filled with equipment and left the hotel. They ordered two cocktails at Duke's Bar, which was two streets away from the palace, and stayed there until late at night.
When the time came, they changed into tactical suits in the bar's restroom and made their way toward the palace using Lightness Skill based on their memories.
As they approached the walls of the palace, Kairuot activated the surveillance switch on his Wristband, disabling the palace's monitoring system. He then swiftly leaped over the tall walls at the northern corner of the palace. With the surveillance turned off, they moved quickly through the palace grounds as if entering a deserted realm. After some time searching, they finally arrived at a large courtyard marked by metal poles resembling lanterns.
The walls of this courtyard were very high, nearly as tall as the outer city walls. This was the largest courtyard of Capricorn Palace, essentially a city within a city. Inside were dozens of halls and hundreds of rooms. It was said that this place originally served as a barracks for the royal guards but had been repurposed into a prison due to the advent of robots, which reduced the need for human presence for basic needs. It now housed important figures such as nobles and royals.
The two of them cautiously proceeded along a secluded path, crossing over the high wall. A few patrolling soldiers passed by, prompting them to leap onto a rooftop. Once the soldiers had moved away, they continued their way toward the courtyard from above.
Kairuot initially deduced that if his mother and Fairleya were imprisoned here as important prisoners, they would likely be placed in one of the heavily guarded halls. They quietly traversed along the rooftops for a while until a large hall came into view, prompting them to jump down to the ground. Just as they landed, they encountered another group of patrolling soldiers and quickly hid behind a pillar of the hall.
This hall had been modified; its two large doors had been removed and replaced with iron bars, which were equipped with automatic locks. Behind these bars, the hall was divided into many small rooms also secured with iron bars. From outside the barred entrance, it was easy to see what was happening inside.
By this time, it was late at night, and they could see that everyone inside was asleep, making it impossible to discern their faces.
In this Royal Palace Prison, it was impossible to shout loudly without alerting patrolling soldiers and exposing themselves. Knowing that his mother and Fairleya possessed deep internal strength, Kairuot used his Sixth Sense to call out silently: "Hey, Fairleya! Fair Connie! Are you here? Fairleya! Fair Connie! Where are you?..."
Kairuot called out repeatedly for some time but received no response. It seemed that this hall did not contain the people they were looking for. They had no choice but to move on to other halls and cells. Using the same method, Kairuot continued calling out but still received no answers.
At that moment, Kairuot's Wristband began flashing; he noticed that the switch for Palace North Corner Surveillance had been restored, and the entire prison's monitoring system was back online. They would likely be discovered if they stayed any longer. He grabbed Xiaoli's hand and said, "Hurry! Their surveillance has been reactivated; we need to leave now!"
As soon as he finished speaking, floodlights installed under the eaves suddenly turned on, exposing them in the brightly lit central hall!
The Capricornian soldiers immediately spotted them, triggering alarms that echoed throughout the palace. Soldiers converged from all directions toward the central hall. The two quickly leaped onto a rooftop just as Capricornian forces deployed flying mechs overhead to initiate an aerial pursuit.
On the rooftop, the aerial mechs turned on their searchlights, illuminating Kairuot and Xiaoli, making it impossible for them to hide. Xiaoli gathered energy in her hands and unleashed two Laser Beams at the mech's lights, extinguishing them. However, more mechs arrived; they only surrounded but did not attack, seemingly cautious. Kairuot speculated that they might be afraid of damaging the prison buildings below.
Unable to defeat the mechs in the sky, the two retreated to the ground. The robotic soldiers spotted them and a barrage of Laser Gun fire rained down. Kairuot used his powerful energy shield to block the attacks, and then both retaliated with laser strikes, sending the soldiers reeling. Seizing the opportunity, they charged forward, but the mechs above kept a close watch, preventing them from escaping the soldiers' clutches. After several intense battles, they finally leaped over the prison's high walls and sped away, navigating through twists and turns until they reached another area of the palace.
The soldiers lacked their abilities and were left far behind, while the mechs continued to pursue them relentlessly. Seeing this situation unfold, if they did not intervene soon, the mechs could head straight for the palace, causing chaos. The Palace Guard Officer quickly dispatched additional guards to intercept them.
These National Guard soldiers were equipped with Heavy Weapons, unafraid of damaging the palace structures. They unleashed Laser Missiles at the two intruders in an attempt to eliminate them in one fell swoop. Seeing this, the two quickly took to the air to evade. The Laser Projectiles created several holes in a grand hall behind them. After this attack, Kairuot realized that the building materials were extremely sturdy, understanding that their captors intended to capture them alive.
The fierce battle continued. In moments of flight, Kairuot unleashed a series of laser strikes, wiping out the first wave of soldiers attempting to block them. They jumped into another part of the palace and quickly landed, seizing an enemy's Heavy Laser Cannon. They began firing Laser Missiles at the airborne mechs, destroying all those hovering in the air.
With no mechs left in the sky, the ground commander could only rely on surface surveillance to track these unexpected guests. The intruders' Lightness Skill was exceptional; it was difficult to accurately determine their whereabouts using just surveillance.
