"Don't let them take the treasure away!"
"Yes, this belongs to our village!"
"Block them!"
Outside the village, a sea of people blocked the road, making it impossible for anything to pass. A large number of villagers armed with hoes, sticks, and shoulder poles stood outside, completely obstructing the vehicles of Bai Yujing and his group.
Bai Yujing had just loaded the items they brought into a gray van, intending to leave discreetly, but they didn't expect to be confronted so quickly.
"What’s going on? How did these villagers find out we discovered the treasure down there?" Bai Yujing asked Li Hao.
Lin Ruoqiao immediately glanced at the people behind them. "What else could it be? There must be a traitor among us."
Li Hao immediately responded with dissatisfaction, "Don't say that. I believe everyone here would never do such a thing."
Although he said that, it was unclear what Li Hao truly thought. Despite his suspicions, he couldn't voice them. Bai Yujing quickly replied, "No way. We've been together the whole time. Besides, we have no connection with these villagers. If they find out, it would only bring trouble upon themselves. What’s the point?"
Li Hao nodded. "Then let's negotiate with these villagers first and see if we can find a way to get them to clear the road."
Li Hao stepped forward to negotiate with a man in his thirties who looked somewhat cunning. After a few exchanges, Li Hao became increasingly agitated, indicating that the negotiation was not going well.
"This is our village! You outsiders need to leave everything behind and get out of here!"
"Yes, yes! Get out!"
"That's right, these are all our things!"
Li Hao shouted loudly, "There’s nothing here. Think about it, in such a small village, just being able to have food to eat in the last era was already good enough. A fishing village like this can’t have any money, right? If they had money, would they still live here?"
Li Hao's words made everyone hesitate for a moment, but then two people rushed out: "Impossible! We saw them earlier; they carried many boxes up here. There must be treasures inside. Otherwise, why would so many of them come here?"
Another voice immediately echoed, "Exactly! They came here with such fanfare; would they do that without any benefits?"
Bai Yujing quickly recognized the faces of these two people—one in his twenties and the other in his thirties. The younger one was the one Bai Yujing had seen earlier installing a listening device on her car.
"It's you! Everyone, don't believe him. These two..." Before Bai Yujing could finish her sentence, she saw the crowd becoming agitated. The villagers were blinded by the so-called treasure and could no longer suppress their rationality.
"Everyone, hurry up! The things must be here. Let's drive these outsiders away; the stuff is ours!"
"Yes, yes! The things are ours; let's beat these outsiders to death!"
With just a little provocation from those two, the villagers surged forward. Bai Yujing immediately took action, grabbing the sticks and hoes coming at her. With a sweep of her foot, she knocked both of them to the ground. She didn't dare to use too much force; if the villagers got into a real fight, it would be troublesome.
"Everyone calm down! Calm down!" Li Hao's shouts were drowned out by the voices of the villagers. The security personnel accompanying them all took out electric batons and kept retreating as the situation spiraled out of control.
Bai Yujing was caught in the crowd and received a couple of blows to her nose and face, leaving her bruised and swollen. She pushed several villagers who charged at her to the ground and immediately noticed that the two people from before had gotten into a van.
"Look at those two! They drove away; the stuff is in their car!" Bai Yujing had no choice but to shout loudly. Her voice was strong enough for everyone in the village to hear, and they immediately turned to look back. They saw that the two who had stirred them up and provided information were already driving away in their vehicle.
At this moment, everyone realized they had been used and immediately rushed forward, brandishing sticks and poles to chase after them. However, it was too late; the two people had already driven off, accelerating away.
Several villagers running in front continuously knocked on the car windows, but it had no effect. They could only watch helplessly as the car drove away.
The leader, a man with small eyes, ran back at this moment and glared at their group, saying, "Tell me, are you in cahoots with them?"
Bai Yujing replied irritably, "If we were in cahoots, we would have just driven off with the goods. Why would we be here dealing with you?"
"They definitely have something in their car. Search! Search!"
Bai Yujing and Li Hao didn't have time to waste with him. They said to the small-eyed man, "Fine, we don’t have time to waste with you. You can search these cars and the village. I can’t hide anything in this T-shirt and jeans anyway. We’re leaving now."
Li Hao stepped out as well: "Xiao Zhang, open the car doors for them to take a look, then drive all the cars back to the company!"
Li Hao followed Bai Yujing onto the main road. "What should we do? Old Bai, Mermaid's Blood is still in the car!"
Bai Yujing immediately said, "What else can we do? We need to find a way to intercept them. There’s only one road leading to the county town from here. If we hurry over, we should be able to find a way to block them."
At that moment, a buzzing sound of an engine came from behind. Bai Yujing saw a red motorcycle make a sharp turn and stop in front of him.
Lin Ruoqiao took off her helmet: "I'm going after him. Who's coming with me?"
Bai Yujing immediately said, "I'll go with you. There's no use for me staying here. Li Hao, you handle things with the villagers."
Li Hao nodded, "Alright, you two must get it back, at least retrieve the Mermaid's Blood."
Lin Ruoqiao patted her helmet, "Don't worry, those two kids think they can compete with my driving skills? They're far from it. I'll take care of them in no time!"
Bai Yujing put on her helmet and sat behind Lin Ruoqiao. With a roar, Lin Ruoqiao immediately sped off, racing down the dirt road, kicking up dust all the way. Li Hao behind them was engulfed in exhaust fumes and sand.
------------
Ma Dong held a box in his arms and gently opened it, revealing a large pile of shiny gold bars inside. Tong Wei, who was driving, was also dazzled by the sight, "Boss, we've struck it rich this time! There are many more boxes behind; they must all be treasures."
Ma Dong laughed heartily, "That goes without saying! I knew we would hit the jackpot on this trip. Otherwise, why would I send you here? It's a pity you're useless; in the end, I still had to handle it myself."
Tong Wei immediately flattered him, "Of course! Once the boss takes action, everything is settled. No matter how many of them there are, they were still played around by you."
Ma Dong beamed with pride, "Exactly! You're still too young. What does it take to succeed in our line of work? It's wisdom. Fighting and killing is what fools do. Look at me; with just a little trickery, I made those foolish villagers fight among themselves to the death, and in the end, all the goods ended up in our hands."
Ma Dong then said, "Don't worry; this time your reward won't be less than fifty thousand. Once we leave here, I'll transfer it to your account immediately."
Tong Wei immediately showed an expression of overwhelming joy, "Thank you, boss!"
As Ma Dong's gaze shifted back to the gold bars in his hands, he displayed a look of disdain on his face and pouted slightly. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the boxes in Ma Dong's hands and was deeply attracted by the gold inside. He then looked at the boxes behind the van, his eyes revealing deep greed.
