Bai Yujing rubbed his head and got up. He had indeed played hard last night. After leaving the nightclub, he and his friends went to karaoke, and then they were taken to an izakaya for a late-night snack. Li Hao had drunk too much, and when Bai Yujing dragged him back, he was still holding a bottle of alcohol.
Fortunately, they weren't stopped by the police on the way back; otherwise, with both of them reeking of alcohol, it would have been a big trouble. Bai Yujing scratched his hair. He was exhausted when he returned home last night and went straight to bed without taking a shower. Now, barefoot, he prepared to take a shower. As he entered the living room, he saw Li Hao sprawled on the sofa, with his phone, wallet, and keys scattered all over the floor.
Bai Yujing picked everything up one by one. When he opened his phone, he saw a photo of himself and Li Hao from the maid café yesterday. Besides them, there was Nana and another maid. It had to be said that they had indeed had a great time yesterday.
After tidying up, Bai Yujing was ready to get down to business. He had come here for a purpose as well. He took out his computer, which displayed the RB porcelain he had noticed earlier. Bai Yujing extracted various angle images of the porcelain from the computer and carefully pieced them together into a complete picture.
Suddenly, a complete image appeared on the table. The image depicted a dilapidated Thatched Cottage with dried fish hanging on the walls. The room had no door; through the open entrance, one could see a fishing net outside. A woman was eating inside while a man's head peeked in from the crevice of the room, eyeing her.
"What is this painting? It's quite beautiful!" Li Hao also got up and looked at the clock; it was already noon.
Bai Yujing said, "It should be telling the story of Eight Hundred Nun. Look at the plate; it has fish on it. The man outside should be Eight Hundred Nun's father. Legend has it that Eight Hundred Nun's father brought back a piece of mermaid flesh from a man named Takahashi, but his daughter, Eight Hundred Nun, stole it and ate it. However, judging by this painting's scene, it seems different!"
"How can you be sure that this painting is about this woman called Eight Hundred Nun? Just because of a piece of fish?" Li Hao asked defiantly.
Bai Yujing nodded and replied, "Otherwise, why would the painting depict such an ordinary fisherwoman eating? Moreover, the overall tone conveys a sense of sadness and gloom. If it were painted by an ordinary person, I feel it would be eerie or bland instead. This indicates that the artist infused some personal emotions into this piece; she must have felt deeply about this scene. And look at this!"
Bai Yujing immediately pulled up the image from the bottom of the Porcelain Bowl. Li Hao exclaimed loudly, "Isn't this exactly like the mark on my ankle?"
"Wrong; it's still somewhat different. Look here!" Bai Yujing pointed out something specific, and Li Hao quickly noticed it.
Li Hao raised a question that Bai Yujing had also considered before: "Could it be that someone made an error in marking?"
Bai Yujing shook his head: "No, this is not the mark from your bloodline source; it's from another one—this is my goal for coming here!"
Li Hao patted Bai Yujing's shoulder: "Nice! Old Bai, you're not going into battle unprepared!"
Bai Yujing nodded: "Actually, what interests me most is right here!"
Bai Yujing continuously zoomed in on the image until it filled the entire screen. Li Hao looked over and realized there were some small marks on the dining table in the painting. "What are these? Could they be cracks or something else due to age?"
"No, they should be some characters; however, they're too blurry because they weren't particularly clear when photographed. Now that it's enlarged like this, everything is indistinct! Plus, there's a large section missing from this painting; perhaps part of it wasn't captured due to dead angles during shooting," Bai Yujing felt somewhat regretful.
Li Hao had a bad feeling: "So what do you mean?"
"The item is at the Tokyo National Museum. We're going there today!" Bai Yujing nodded.
Li Hao was shocked: "No way, you mean you're going to steal it from inside? Do you think you're James Bond?"
Bai Yujing replied irritably, "Can you think of something practical? We can go in and take a high-definition photo with a camera!"
"Oh, in that case, that's not exciting at all! How about we try offering money and see if the museum staff will sell it to us?" Li Hao again had a wild idea, perhaps not even knowing which way the entrance of the Tokyo National Museum faced.
"Who are you going to talk to? The Tokyo National Museum is not some private club; it's under the Agency for Cultural Affairs and was originally directly under the royal family. It's one of Neon’s largest museums. Don't get us into trouble; it would be bad if we attracted the attention of the relevant authorities!" After saying this, Bai Yujing closed her laptop.
"By the way, are we going down to eat or calling someone to bring food up?" Bai Yujing asked.
Li Hao said, "I don't want to go down; let's have someone bring it up. I haven't even washed up yet, and it's already lunchtime. By the way, how did we get back yesterday?"
Bai Yujing recalled and replied angrily, "How else could we have gotten back? I carried you back! You were shouting and yelling on the street with a bottle in your hand; it was really embarrassing!"
"Impossible! I have such good drinking etiquette; you're just slandering me!" Li Hao's confidence wasn't very strong when he said this.
"Hmph, the whole street saw your performance yesterday. You embarrassed our Chinese face completely!"
Li Hao immediately changed the subject: "By the way, where's my car? Where's my Ferrari Enzo?"
Bai Yujing said, "I drove it back yesterday, safe and sound. Unlike you, it seems someone's drinking capacity and etiquette will never catch up to me in this lifetime!"
"Why can you, a Southerner, drink so much? That's not scientific!"
"Well, how should we put it? Southerners say we're Northerners, and Northerners say we're Southerners. We don't even know where we belong!"
When breakfast was delivered, Bai Yujing received a call from Hu Ying in China. The call came through a phone he had sent her; Bai Yujing had kept it in her bag while using another phone for playing games and this one for calls.
“Is that Bai Yujing?”
“Yes, it’s me!”
“How is it in Neon? It seems like you brought a friend with you this time, the sole heir of Shanshui International Group, right? Did you two go out and have some fun?” Hu Ying spoke in a very down-to-earth manner, despite being an official.
“Mr. Hu, you seem to know everything! I wonder what you’re looking for me about this time?” Bai Yujing asked.
Hu Ying didn’t beat around the bush and said directly, “I mainly wanted to tell you something. I’ve found out who was investigating you last time. His name is Tong Wei, the younger one among the two who opposed you in Shuiyuan Village. It seems he has allied with someone and received significant support and manpower. He also left the country with you yesterday, so be careful!”
“What?” Bai Yujing thought that even if those two wanted to take revenge on him, they wouldn’t have much power left—no money, no people—what could they use against him? He didn’t expect things to have become complicated this time!
Bai Yujing nodded, “Okay, I understand. I will be careful. By the way, I also want you to help me look into that porcelain image I sent you earlier and that seal. Please keep an eye on it!”
“Sure, I’ll notify you immediately if I have any news. Also, I’ll give you a contact method. If you encounter any danger or urgent issues, you can go to this place to find him!” Hu Ying recited an address and a name.
Bai Yujing immediately repeated it a few times in his mind to remember it: “Okay, I’ve got it. Thank you for your help, Mr. Hu.”
“No need to mention it. Although Mr. Bai is a free man, we are all Chinese, and I still hope that Mr. Bai can remember his identity when doing certain things!”
“Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Hu!”
