Bai Yujing grabbed the rope, preparing to begin his exploration of the ice crevice. The length of the rope was insufficient, so Bai Yujing dismantled several other tent ropes and tents to splice them together. After securing it with a steel plate on the cliff, he slowly lowered himself down using a simple pulley.
Inside the ice crevice, it was pitch black. While he could still see the surrounding scenery through the starlight and moonlight above, once he reached the bottom, it became completely dark. Even with Bai Yujing's night vision, he could only make out some vague shapes; anything further away required the use of the spotlight on his hat.
The quiet, darkness, and cold began to gradually erode Bai Yujing's resolve. In the heart of Antarctica, he was left alone to fight against the elements. Bai Yujing was driven by a single obsession: to find Atlantis, the original purpose of his journey.
Three hundred meters, six hundred meters, eight hundred meters—he continued to descend without seeing the bottom. The depth of this ice crevice exceeded Bai Yujing's imagination. However, upon reaching eight hundred meters, he vaguely observed something: a very sharp and massive spire-like object on the slanted Ice Wall below.
Bai Yujing continued to lower himself until he reached one thousand meters, where he finally saw the true form of this object—it was indeed a tower, constructed from crystal. It was semi-transparent; when light shone upon it, colorful rays refracted within the Crystal Tower.
The Crystal Tower was completely embedded in the Ice Wall, with only a portion of its top exposed. Yet even this tip was already awe-inspiring and breathtaking. Bai Yujing immediately took out a grappling gun from his backpack, which he had found in Catherine's tent; otherwise, he would have had to consider other methods.
He fired the grappling gun, and immediately saw the modified claws shoot out like bullets. Upon hitting the Ice Wall, they embedded themselves instantly. Then four claws sprang out from his back, firmly gripping the Ice Wall and securing him in place.
Holding onto the rope, Bai Yujing pulled himself closer to the Ice Wall. Once near enough, he used an ice axe to secure himself against it and removed the rope from his body, fastening it to the Ice Wall for his return journey.
Using two ice axes alternately, Bai Yujing noticed that there were numerous pockmarked traces all over the Ice Surface; these were likely claw marks left by a Giant Monster. This made it easier for him to descend. After climbing down several dozen meters, Bai Yujing finally stood at the highest level of the Crystal Tower.
Here, it felt as if the air had warmed up; although it was still below freezing, it felt like summer to Bai Yujing. Looking down, he indeed saw water about twenty or thirty meters below him, seemingly emitting wisps of steam as small bubbles continuously rose from the Bottom.
The Crystal Tower extended diagonally above him like a coin. Standing atop it allowed Bai Yujing to feel its grandeur; even at its highest point, it stood over ten meters tall. As he slowly crawled downwards at an angle, he spotted a window that had originally been adorned with stained glass but had long been shattered by Giant Monsters that had made this place their lair.
Bai Yujing swept his spotlight inside and found a vast empty hall illuminated by a faint glow. He could see clearly without needing his flashlight because of this light. Due to the tower's slanted structure, the floor was also inclined. Downward at an angle, Bai Yujing saw a group of small beasts huddled together—children of Giant Monsters. As soon as the bright light from his spotlight shone in, all the little beasts panicked and began to cry out!
However, these small beasts appeared to be no taller than one meter at most, with the smaller ones being about the size of a kitten. The Giant Monsters had all left, leaving only the young behind. Bai Yujing climbed in from above, and these small beasts caught the scent of a stranger, immediately emitting barks like puppies. However, Bai Yujing was larger than them and was a strange creature they had never seen before. The sounds from these small beasts were filled with fear and panic, yet none dared to approach.
The air in the space was somewhat heavy, filled with the scent of Giant Monsters, feces, and a fishy odor. Bai Yujing also noticed some fish scales; these Giant Monsters must have been catching schools of fish from below in the Bottom as their food source to survive. No wonder they considered this place their lair. Some of these small beasts had already begun to learn hunting skills and could easily climb the several dozen meters of the Ice Wall.
Bai Yujing checked around and determined that this should be an ordinary building, likely serving a purpose similar to that of a temple. At the top of the Crystal Tower, gemstones were embedded, resembling the crystals seen earlier in Shuiyuan Village, emitting a faint glow akin to stars. Upon closer inspection, it became clear that this was a star map.
Bai Yujing immediately took out the Center and compared it with the star map, discovering they were identical. "So this is an observation point!"
Standing at the center of the top of the crystal tower, Bai Yujing leaned back to stabilize on the sloped ground. "I wonder who stood here back then and left this star map for the Center!"
The ground below formed a massive concentric circle that Bai Yujing recognized well; it was indeed the mark of Atlantis. It seemed he had not come to the wrong place; this should be Atlantis.
As Bai Yujing slid down, the small beasts were startled and did not approach him but instead scattered in all directions. This was completely different from their fierce parents; they seemed rather timid.
Bai Yujing paid no mind to these little creatures and found an entrance to the next level beside their nest. Originally, there had been a pair of metal doors here, but one was now pushed open, allowing Bai Yujing to walk through easily.
The staircase was artistically designed, and although it descended, Bai Yujing felt as if he were walking on flat ground. The stairs were primarily made of white stone slabs and patterned stones, interspersed and arranged with handrails spiraling downward. Looking down made it seem like an endless spiral, filled with a sense of space.
This made Bai Yujing feel that Atlantis was a land rich in culture and artistic atmosphere. The walls should have displayed murals or similar artworks, but at present, nothing could be seen. It appeared that several lower levels had been completely cleared out; nothing remained as if the original Atlantian inhabitants had abandoned this place and moved everything out.
Continuing downward, Bai Yujing finally reached the bottom level. The entire base was vast; this Crystal Tower exceeded Bai Yujing's imagination in height, resembling a skyscraper. A rough estimate suggested it might be four or five hundred meters tall; running down the stairs nearly caused Bai Yujing to injure himself.
The bottom felt like a cathedral, with rows of colorful stained glass windows standing tall. In the center was a massive statue; however, instead of chairs in front, there was a large indoor plaza illuminated by bright white light that filled the entire space. As Bai Yujing entered, he saw water jets springing up from beneath the crystal floor of the plaza, intertwining like a garden.
Bai Yujing stood in front of the statue, which depicted a strong and majestic man dressed in a white robe with a fish tail below. As Bai Yujing approached the statue, a woman suddenly appeared beside him. She was dressed quite differently from him, in a very simple manner, as if she were wrapped in a single piece of white cloth. Her unique style, combined with her beautiful features, gave off an artistic vibe.
However, the sudden appearance of this woman startled Bai Yujing. It seemed she was saying something to him, but he couldn't hear anything.
"What did you say?" Bai Yujing attempted to communicate with her. Although it felt strange, she didn't seem to have any ill intentions.
No matter how Bai Yujing spoke, she maintained the same expression. It seemed he sensed something and reached out to touch her, only to find his hand passed right through her chest as if it were passing through a beam of light.
"Virtual projection technology!" Bai Yujing realized immediately what this was, despite never having experienced it before.
He sighed in amazement; it was incredibly realistic. Standing face to face with her, he hadn't realized she was merely a projection. Moreover, he didn't see any equipment related to the projection around him; it seemed she had just appeared out of nowhere.
"She is welcoming you to Poseidonia!" A familiar voice suddenly echoed in his ears!
