Bai Yujing previously did not like rainy days, but this time, driving through the damp streets and city in the light rain, he felt an indescribable romantic atmosphere. Bai Yujing had a piece of waffle in his mouth, packed from the hotel restaurant and personally fed to him by Emma. This made it seem like he was driving with a rhythm, and he felt invigorated.
Waffles are a type of baked good originating from Belgium, made using a special waffle iron that creates deep grid patterns on the surface. They are fresh, smooth, and fragrant, truly delightful.
Following Emma's directions, Bai Yujing drove along the signs, even taking a ferry from Lauvvik to Oanes. After another twenty to thirty minutes of driving, they finally reached their destination.
What surprised Bai Yujing the most was that as they approached the center of Lysefjord along the road, the rain stopped. A brilliant rainbow appeared before them; the sight and luck were simply perfect.
"Stop the car, grab the camera!" Emma shouted immediately.
Bai Yujing quickly parked the car, grabbed his bag from the back seat, and got out to capture the beautiful scenery. Below him was a winding highway that snaked into the distance, with rows of white streetlights standing alongside. Beyond the deep green lawn was a small house with a red roof nestled against a lush forest.
Behind the trees, a rainbow soared into the sky, arching upward into the clouds. At that moment, the clouds above were grayish-white, thick and dense. The rainbow seemed like a beam of light in the darkness, illuminating the path to heaven.
Bai Yujing clicked several photos before putting down his camera. "This is really a good omen! I didn't expect to encounter something like this right away; it looks like our trip will go very smoothly!"
Emma kissed Bai Yujing and snatched the camera from his hands to look through the pictures. "It seems like Lady Luck is on our side!"
As they moved forward, they arrived at the scenic spot but still needed to climb a distance up the mountain to reach Pulpit Rock. When Bai Yujing got there, he still didn’t know what Pulpit Rock was—a peculiar stone or a mountain with a special shape?
When he asked Emma about it, she replied, "You'll know when you get up there!"
After parking and paying for parking, Bai Yujing and Emma set off together; however, it seemed that no one else was around—there were only Bai Yujing and Emma in this entire area.
"Emma, aren't you going to say that this is the most famous spot here? Why is there not a single person around?" Bai Yujing asked cautiously.
Emma immediately explained, "Because usually the morning views are the best, and the lighting is most suitable for photography, so there are the most people in the morning. In the afternoon, there aren't many people at all, and it just rained, so there are definitely no signs of people now!"
The mountain was still quite high, and there were many places along the way that required both hands and feet to climb. Bai Yujing walked ahead, climbing up steep areas first and then pulling Emma up while sharing some stories from his time in Antarctica.
"You won't believe it; my beard was like this back then. The moisture I breathed out froze on it, forming long icicles. At that time, I looked like Santa Claus without needing any makeup!" Bai Yujing said with an exaggerated expression.
Emma immediately asked curiously, "I heard you encountered monsters along the way, is that true?"
"It was a Yeti. However, based on my speculation, the formation of this Yeti might not be due to Atlantean interference but rather an evolution caused by changes in the natural environment. I had previously seen a creature very similar to them; it was also very tall and strong but had scales instead of fur because this type of creature is accustomed to living at the bottom!"
"After arriving in Antarctica, I discovered this kind of creature under the ice layer, but most of them were already frozen to death. I suspect that before Antarctica was frozen over, these monsters existed in large numbers there. However, after the ice formed, those born afterward began evolving into their current forms to adapt to the environment!"
The two slowly climbed step by step until they finally reached the top. They were greeted by a vast reservoir and river stretching out before them, undulating and reflecting the clouds in the sky. Suddenly, it felt as if the river beneath their feet had become mighty and was flowing endlessly toward the ends of the earth.
"This is it, Pulpit Rock!" Emma introduced to Bai Yujing.
Bai Yujing then noticed a naturally formed giant rock standing abruptly deep in the fjord. It had a significant vertical drop and resembled a cliff but had a very distinct difference; it was a sheer cliff made of a single piece of stone, towering over six hundred meters high. It gave off an aura of being isolated from the world—straight and steep.
The area at the top was also several hundred square meters large, capable of accommodating many people standing on it. It was an excellent spot for photography and enjoying the surrounding scenery. Especially after the sun came out, one could see how this giant rock plunged deep into the fjord below, with a wide and vast river flowing beneath like a bank.
Standing hundreds of meters high and feeling the natural barrier around them, they gazed at the wide river below glistening under the sunlight as it flowed steadily into the distance. The sunlight enveloped them, making it feel as if they were embracing the entire world at once.
Bai Yujing also felt very shocked and couldn't help but shout with Emma, as there were only the two of them here, completely free from concerns about others, as if they had let go of their entire body and mind!
Bai Yujing held the camera while Emma posed on Pulpit Rock, acting as a model. Since it was a bit backlit in the afternoon, Bai Yujing specifically ran to the top of Pulpit Rock to take photos and finally captured the images he wanted.
After playing around for the whole afternoon, Bai Yujing and Emma returned to the hotel just as it was getting dark.
That evening, before resting, Bai Yujing and Emma lay on the bed again to discuss some details and points to pay attention to regarding their current mission. Emma took out the Nautical Chart that Gulliver Remel had used while traveling with the captain. The two carefully confirmed some matters again to facilitate discussions and confirmations with Mr. Bivis, the spokesperson for Burton, the next day.
Bai Yujing held Gulliver's notes and said, "The Nautical Chart records that around late July each year, a Cloud Hole appears in the sea area at 66 degrees 14 minutes north latitude and 3 degrees 53 minutes west longitude. However, it does not specify exactly where it appears. According to Lemuel's notes, even the captain was unclear about its location and found it based on the guidance of the Children of the Gods. This indicates that the location of the Cloud Hole is likely not fixed, which means it will be difficult for us to accurately locate it!"
Bai Yujing immediately felt a headache: "Who are these Children of the Gods? Is it another nickname for someone on board? Or does it refer to something else? Can't these people leave clear clues for future generations?"
Emma pointed out another issue: "Ian, we have another problem. How long does this Cloud Hole appear? Does it show up every day during this period, or only during specific one or two hours each day? Or does it only appear for two or three days? There are no detailed records about this!"
Bai Yujing nodded: "So we should set off as soon as possible; it's better to start our actions quickly!"
