A girl with small freckles on her face rushed out of the room and jumped into the giant's arms. Bai Yujing even felt the pile of firewood he was hiding behind shake, causing him to bounce up and then fall back down.
"Ilandor, look what I brought back for you! An Iron Bird!"
"Wow, this toy is so beautiful, thank you, Dad!"
After Ilandor received the airplane, he immediately began looking around with wide eyes. Then, as if he had discovered something, he peered through the glass window inside. The airplane's door had closed at some point without him noticing. Just as Ilandor was straining to see, a woman's voice came from inside the house.
"Alright, it's time to eat, stop playing!"
"Ilandor, put the toy away and eat your meal first!"
The room was very clean, and a woman wearing a headscarf was placing a steaming bowl of soup on the table. There was a candlestick iron frame on the ceiling, and a fire was burning in the fireplace. Next to it stood some slightly old furniture, a Cabinet; it seemed this was a middle-class family, not too poor—at least they were self-sufficient farmers.
The giant placed the pile of firewood beside the fireplace. Taking advantage of his turning around, Bai Yujing immediately ran out from his hiding spot and dashed toward the nearby Cabinet. At that moment, a Female Giant walked out, and Bai Yujing quickly hid at the bottom of the Cabinet.
This Female Giant was truly enormous; Bai Yujing's height only reached partway up her ankle. Hiding at the bottom of the Cabinet, Bai Yujing looked at the stool beside him where the airplane had been placed; he needed to find a way to get over there.
What Bai Yujing didn't notice was that behind him, a pair of glowing eyes had appeared. A massive monster was lurking in the corner of the Cabinet, seemingly having caught a whiff of food.
"Squeak!"
As soon as Bai Yujing heard the sound, he turned around but it was already too late. The creature had pounced on him, its sharp claws pinning him down. Bai Yujing desperately grabbed its neck while the creature's fierce face kept trying to bite down on him, aiming to make him its dinner for the night.
Bai Yujing summoned all his strength and kicked hard, knocking the creature down to the ground. As it got back up and prepared to attack again, Bai Yujing pulled out a shotgun from his spatial pocket.
It was a pump-action shotgun capable of holding two shells—powerful enough to take down large beasts. Bai Yujing aimed the dark muzzle at the charging monster and pulled the trigger just as it got close.
"Bang!"
The loud gunfire echoed throughout the Cabinet underground, and the beast was hit in the head by the tremendous power of the shotgun, its entire skull blown apart. The creature was shot out, dying in the Cabinet underground!
"My God, what was that sound!" The lady of the house seemed to have noticed the commotion.
Ilandor pointed towards Cabinet: "It seems to be coming from below Cabinet!"
The lady crouched down, peering into the Cabinet underground, and immediately spotted the scene below: "Damn it, it's a dead rat! It must have fallen from above and died. I need to get rid of it right away!"
She grabbed the rat by its tail and tossed it out the door. At that moment, Bai Yujing finally released his grip on the wooden board beneath Cabinet and jumped down, feeling quite shaken. The rats here felt as dangerous as tigers, not to mention that Female Giant, who could easily squash him into a pulp with a single slap. The gun in his hand probably wouldn't do much against them.
Once the giant family started eating, Bai Yujing crawled out from under Cabinet and quickly dashed towards the chair where the plane was placed. Using both hands and feet, he climbed up the thick legs of the chair, which was quite a struggle due to their size.
After climbing onto the chair, Bai Yujing looked through the window but saw nothing: "Emma? Mr. Hackman, it's me, Bai Yujing!"
Then he saw the door open, and Bivis peeked outside, realizing it was indeed Bai Yujing: "My God, what is going on? When we woke up, we found that a giant had grabbed our plane! Am I dreaming?"
Emma also popped her head out from behind, her eyes red as she said: "Ian, you finally made it! I was really worried about you; I thought you had disappeared!"
Huckman seemed quite relaxed: "I told you this guy would be fine; see?"
Bai Yujing kept his gaze fixed on the giant at the dining table: "Shh, don't speak. Everyone be quiet. If..."
Before Bai Yujing could finish his sentence, he noticed that a little girl giant named Ilandor seemed to twitch her ears and immediately looked over in their direction. Bai Yujing quickly lowered his head and hid behind the plane.
At the same time, he gestured to Bivis and Emma to hurry back inside the cabin and not let the giants see them.
The little girl set down her bread and returned her soup spoon to the bowl, wrinkling her nose as she approached them, crouching down to look inside the plane. However, she still saw nothing.
"Um?" Ilandor let out a long nasal sound, expressing his inner confusion. He clearly just heard someone speaking.
Ilandor turned his head to look at the other side of the plane, while Bai Yujing leaned against the fuselage and quickly darted to the other side. The little girl still found nothing, and her confusion and suspicion deepened.
"Hey!"
Ilandor suddenly turned his head to look in the other direction, but still saw nothing. At that moment, the little girl grabbed the plane and looked up at the seat, but again found nothing.
"Ilandor, eat your meal properly and don't run around!"
"Oh!"
The little giant named Ilandor scratched his head in bewilderment and returned to his table, but he kept peeking over curiously. Unlike adults, sharp-eyed children seemed to sense something different.
Bai Yujing was sweating profusely, hanging on the wing. He had just played hide-and-seek with this little giant, but it was genuinely a bit frightening. This brat was definitely not to be trifled with. Bai Yujing remembered how he used to pour boiling water on ants and pull the wings off butterflies as a child. He didn't want to end up in the hands of such a brat; it would truly be a fate worse than death.
As night slowly fell, the giant family began to settle down for the night. The mistress put down her knitting and blew out the oil lamp. "Ilandor, it's time for bed!"
"Can I sleep with this toy?"
"No, you can place it on the table by your bed, but you can't bring it into bed!"
