The enormous vine seemed to stretch endlessly. Bai Yujing looked down and found that beneath his feet was always a sea of mist, a clear blue, along with the unending Giant Vine.
"Let's take a break!" Bai Yujing realized that he and the others wouldn't be able to walk the entire distance in one go. Everyone was feeling a bit tired, so they decided to rest for a while and eat something before continuing.
After finishing their meal, they set off again. However, by the time night fell, Bai Yujing still had not been able to see the bottom of the vine, nor could he see the end of this vine ladder.
They sat cross-legged on a natural hammock formed by seven or eight massive vines intertwined together. Huckman, carrying a large backpack, set it aside and took out a small stove to boil water and prepare food.
"How long is this thing? This is really unbelievable!" Huckman felt it was quite strange; he had never seen such a gigantic plant. Compared to those giant trees in Giant Country, this was nothing.
Bai Yujing took off his white gloves and pulled out two thick garments from his bag. "Here, Emma, you and the old man put these on. It’s windy here at night, and it’s probably very cold!"
Emma took them and asked, "What about you?"
Bai Yujing patted his chest. "With my physique, I’m not afraid of this. I survived minus sixty degrees in Antarctica for two months during polar nights and frequent blizzards. I even managed to climb out in the end!"
"Tell me more about your stories in Antarctica!"
"Haven't you heard enough already?"
"It's boring here at night!"
The three of them chatted in this place where the sky was out of sight and the ground was unreachable. A massive vine pierced through the heavens and earth, shrouded in mist, surrounded by vastness; such a peculiar sight would astonish anyone.
Bai Yujing fiddled with his backpack and took out a well-protected box. Inside was a transparent bottle sealed with an exquisite wooden cork. The water inside was very unusual and emitted a faint glow.
Bai Yujing examined it briefly before putting it back. After taking a look, Emma said, "Be careful with that; put it away so you don’t drop it!"
Bai Yujing smiled. Yesterday afternoon, he specifically went to the market and searched for a long time. "Hey, what is this glowing water?"
"Oh, that? This is the Firefly Ball. We added a kind of fluorescent powder to the water; it's a toy for kids!" The shopkeeper told Bai Yujing.
Bai Yujing nodded. "I see. Can you put this Firefly Ball in a more exquisite bottle for me? I want to break it and pour the water inside."
"Why do you want to do that?"
"I have my reasons. Please, I can give you an extra silver coin!"
Bai Yujing smiled and took the box. He didn't expect things to go so smoothly. He originally thought Bivis and the others would be difficult to deal with, but nothing happened along the way, and the backup plan he had prepared was not needed at all.
"Good night!"
"Good night!"
Bai Yujing slept soundly until deep into the night when he suddenly sensed some movement. As he sat up, he saw three figures standing in front of him, a dagger pointed at his neck, held by someone he was very familiar with—Hank.
Bai Yujing's sudden movement and noise immediately startled Emma and Huckman, who were sleeping nearby. Bai Yujing saw Bivis and Shen Fei quickly approaching.
"Oh my god! What are you doing?" Emma screamed as she sat up, but Bivis aimed a gun at her.
"Hello, partner! Didn't expect to see us again, did you?" Bivis said with a smile.
Bai Yujing laughed heartily. "Why do you act like we haven't seen each other in ages? Didn't we just enjoy drinking and chatting together yesterday?"
Bivis nodded, "That's right. So this morning, you quietly took everything and ran away by yourself. That's not something a gentleman should do!"
Bai Yujing smiled and raised his hands, "I suddenly remembered I had something urgent to attend to, so..."
Bivis interrupted Bai Yujing, "Alright, enough chit-chat. Shen Fei, take the gun!"
Shen Fei looked at Bai Yujing and made a throat-cutting gesture. Bai Yujing's expression turned cold, but his neck was still held against Hank's dagger. Hank stared at him coldly, and Bai Yujing knew that any slight movement would result in his throat being cut.
Meanwhile, Will Hackman stood by with his hand outstretched. After all, the guns they held were quite intimidating, and with Bai Yujing and Emma under control, he didn't dare to move.
Bivis casually walked over and looked at the three bags on the ground. "One, two, three. Let me see... this one, Bai, it's in your bag, right?"
Bivis opened the backpack and rummaged through it until he pulled out a box from inside. As soon as Emma saw Bivis take out the box, she became excited: "Bivis, that's ours!"
Bai Yujing immediately shouted, "Emma, don't get excited! Just give it to them!"
Emma was very nervous: "We can't give it to them; you know..."
Bai Yujing nodded, "I know, I know. But let's not discuss that now!"
Bivis opened the box and took out a bottle from inside. He looked at it under the dim light of the night; the transparent liquid inside shimmered with points of light. "So beautiful, Fountain of Life, Fountain of Youth!"
"Bai, you're very wise. Our previous cooperation was quite pleasant. I don't want it to come to this; rest assured, I only want the Fountain of Life!"
Bivis was a lawyer; his habit was to achieve his goals without unnecessary actions. He followed the rules but also knew how to manipulate them.
Bivis stood up with the bottle and said to Shen Fei and Hank, "Tie them up!"
At that moment, Shen Fei made a shocking move that surprised everyone; he suddenly pushed Emma off the vine. Bai Yujing's expression changed drastically as he saw Emma scream while falling down. The ropes continued to drop until they tightened, causing both Bai Yujing and Huckman to be pulled forward a step before stabilizing themselves.
"Emma, are you okay?"
"I'm fine!"
Bai Yujing tried to lean against something to steady himself, feeling relieved, but Shen Fei aimed his gun directly at Bai Yujing. Bivis was taken aback and immediately became furious, saying, "Shen Fei, what are you trying to do?"
Shen Fei replied, "I think it's better to eliminate them!"
"I command you..."
Before Bivis could finish his sentence, Shen Fei had already pulled the trigger. At that moment, Emma and Huckman, who were falling below, shouted Bai Yujing's name. However, unexpectedly, no bullets were fired from the handgun.
Bivis and Hank were stunned; the situation had taken a turn no one anticipated. Shen Fei was alarmed and exclaimed, "What’s going on?"
However, Bai Yujing seized the opportunity while Hank was momentarily distracted. He quickly grabbed Hank's wrist and twisted it forcefully, causing a dagger to fall. Bai Yujing attempted an elbow strike but was firmly held down by the reacting Hank. He immediately lifted his foot to kick Hank, but at that moment he was tied up with ropes on one end connected to Emma below. The weight of Emma falling relied entirely on Bai Yujing to maintain.
With one foot on the ground, Bai Yujing saw his balance falter and was pulled down. He had no choice but to let go of his foot and engage in a struggle with Hank using his hands.
However, Hank was also very experienced in combat; after exchanging several blows with Bai Yujing, he found himself at a disadvantage. Just then, Hank received a heavy punch to the forehead and collapsed to the ground unconscious. Bai Yujing realized it was Huckman who had intervened from the side.
