"Chi Mist is a type of accessory created by the divine beings when they attempted to construct the Celestial Palace. It can create a gap between the human realm and the Underworld, allowing even the faintest spirit of ordinary humans and animals to be preserved under certain conditions," Xu Lei explained to Bai Yujing while waving her hand through the thick mist. Despite being blown by the wind, the mist showed no signs of dissipating.
Bai Yujing pondered for a moment and asked, "Preserved under certain conditions?"
Xu Lei nodded seriously, "Of course! What did you expect? If it could exist unconditionally and eternally, wouldn’t that be the Celestial Palace?"
Bai Yujing continued to inquire, "What is inside the Divine Mountain? What do these Mountain Spirits want when they enter the mountain?"
Xu Lei glanced at Lao Qi and Zhong Qiang, then scoffed, "What else could it be? The legacy of the divine beings!"
"What legacy?" Bai Yujing pressed on.
After hesitating for a moment, Xu Lei replied, "The Imperial Tomb. It is said that the Kuaiwei Clan's Yan Emperor was buried within their clan's Divine Mountain. After Yan Emperor's death, the entire Kuaiwei Clan declined, suppressed and marginalized by the Youxiong Clan, gradually disappearing!"
Bai Yujing felt a chill run down her spine. "The Imperial Tomb? Are you saying that the Imperial Tomb of Yan Emperor and Shennong is here?"
Xu Lei nodded. As for the next question, she was unwilling to elaborate further. Lao Qi and Zhong Qiang also seemed reluctant to speak. Bai Yujing guessed that they probably didn’t know much either; asking would be pointless. She decided to change the topic: "Aren't these Mountain Spirits servants of the divine beings? As a descendant of the divine beings, they should listen to you, right?"
Xu Lei said pitifully, "If they were going to listen to me, would I need to follow you into the mountain? Thank goodness I've been free from the control of the divine beings for thousands of years. Even if I were an ordinary divine being standing here, it might not make a difference."
Bai Yujing looked down at her and said, "So you’re saying you’re completely useless?"
Xu Lei immediately replied, "I can cheer you on from behind and shout '666'!"
"Are you Salty Fish?"
Everyone was a bit tired. After eating and drinking their fill, they crawled into their sleeping bags to rest. The five of them took turns keeping watch outside, but the effectiveness was not as great as they had imagined. The fog was too thick; even if something approached, it would be too late to notice.
However, having someone on guard with a weapon was better than being silently ambushed. The deep mountains and forests were indeed not as safe as one might think, especially since the location chosen by Bai Yujing was not ideal, with certain animals passing by from time to time.
While on watch outside, Bai Yujing spotted a few roe deer and a wild boar passing by. When Li Hao was on guard, he even saw a Northeast Tiger, which startled Bai Yujing and the others. However, when holding his gun, Bai Yujing noticed that the tiger showed no intention of attacking them; it merely glanced at them before leaving.
Xu Lei leisurely crawled out of the tent, wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag that only exposed his head, resembling a large bumblebee. He said, "They won't attack me. Ordinary animals have an innate fear and affinity towards divine beings, which is why my journey has been so smooth."
Bai Yujing immediately asked, "Then why did the Polar Bear we encountered earlier attack us and you? No, it seemed to be specifically targeting you!"
Xu Lei frowned. "I don't know about that. I found it quite strange too. Moreover, I've never seen a white bear like that; don't tell me a Polar Bear came all the way here!"
Bai Yujing nodded and said to Li Hao, "Forget it. I'll keep watch for the rest of the time. You should rest more; it will be night soon. Once the fog clears up, we'll set off again!"
Li Hao had just been frightened by the sudden appearance of the tiger. The tiger had playfully walked close to Li Hao, nearly scaring him to death; he sat on the ground for quite some time before getting back up.
The resting period was not peaceful and was frequently interrupted. However, since daytime was relatively long, everyone managed to regain their spirits. As night approached, they finished Dinner, waited for the thick fog to dissipate, and prepared to set off again.
Indeed, deciding to move at night proved to be correct. Once the fog cleared away, the entire world became clear again. There were no fog obscuring their vision; however, everything fell into darkness, relying only on faint starlight and moonlight to see the path ahead. This situation was already much better than before; they could vaguely see distant scenery and determine directions without groping around in thick fog.
Bai Yujing carried his backpack forward. The mountain path that had disappeared in the morning reappeared once again, with even the footprints left by the Mountain Spirit clearly visible beneath Bai Yujing and the others' eyes.
Bai Yujing crouched down to take a look and said, "Let's follow this footprint forward, and we should be able to find the Mountain Spirit's lair."
As they set off again, everyone's pace quickened significantly. Compared to the slow dragging behind the Mountain Spirit yesterday, the group moved swiftly, continuously advancing along the mountain path.
"What do you see over there?" Lao Qi, walking in the center, looked up and noticed a particularly conspicuous large tree halfway up the mountain. It wasn't that it was exceptionally large, but compared to other trees, it stood out significantly.
What caught their attention even more was that the tree was bright red, with leaves that seemed to be burning with flames. In the darkness of night, it shone like a torch.
"A glowing tree?" Li Hao also looked up and immediately asked the knowledgeable Bai Yujing and Zhong Qiang, "Have you two seen this before?"
Bai Yujing shook his head. "I've never heard of it, but this seems to be a Phoenix Tree!"
After saying this, Bai Yujing was suddenly startled and looked at Zhong Qiang. Both of them revealed a hint of confusion in their eyes, as if they understood each other's unspoken thoughts: "No way!"
Bai Yujing thought for a moment and said, "Anyway, let's not go that way; let's go around it!"
Li Hao immediately glanced at the foot of the mountain. "But there's only one road that goes right under that tree. If we don't go through there, where else can we go? There are no other paths!"
Bai Yujing looked around and confirmed that Li Hao was right. The terrain of this mountain was peculiar; at first glance, it resembled a chair with cliffs extending on both sides. The only path leading up the mountain was directly in front of them. If they took a long detour from another direction, not only would it be time-consuming and labor-intensive, but they would also lose track of the Mountain Spirit's trail. Getting lost among the mountains would be even worse.
Zhong Qiang immediately said, "If the Mountain Spirits can get through, we should have no problem either; we just need to be careful!"
