Bai Yujing watched as the woman spoke a strange phrase, and immediately saw the man being lifted up the Stairs towards the Suspended Tower, arriving in front of the woman. Under the lantern's light, he could see her beauty up close, along with a faint, elusive fragrance.
"Am I beautiful?"
The woman gently removed her Mask. The man suddenly seemed to understand the meaning behind her words. Looking at her flawless face, exquisite and without a single blemish, her skin appeared delicate and smooth like jade, with perfectly proportioned features. Such a beauty could only exist in the realm of immortals.
"You are so beautiful!"
After the man uttered this phrase, he lost consciousness, feeling as if all his vitality had been drained away. He collapsed to the ground, while the woman put on her Mask and waved her hand, prompting someone to take the man's lifeless body away.
The three watching from a distance, Bai Yujing and his companions, were left speechless. They had just witnessed this woman sucking a faint red mist from the man's mouth and nose. Bai Yujing saw the man gradually becoming emaciated and aging until he fell to the ground like a pile of remnants, dead.
In death, he wore a blissful yet eerie smile on his face. Watching this scene in the darkness was enough to terrify anyone into despair. The three who had just been captivated by the woman's Meili were instantly jolted back to reality; this was not a human but a monster that preyed on others—a creature disguised in beautiful skin.
Bai Yujing slowly climbed down from the rooftop, stowing his portable telescope in his pocket. He joined Li Hao and the others, having witnessed what had just transpired. All three were somewhat shaken; they realized they were in a true den of evil. They had no idea how dangerous it was inside, and they feared their fate would not be much better than that of the man on stage.
Once Bai Yujing descended, he quickly recounted what he had seen to Li Hao and Zhong Qiang. Zhong Qiang nodded: "That person was one of ours. I met him when I came to Shennongjia to see the local branch's Minister. I never expected him to die here. It seems they have all fallen into the hands of these man-eating monsters. We need to find a way to rescue them!"
Bai Yujing nodded: "From what I can tell, they have been captured for quite some time now. I wonder how many are left!"
Li Hao, who had been silent until now, could no longer hold back his urgency: "Didn't you say people are locked up over there? We need to hurry and save them!"
Looking over at the Suspended Tower, where the ritual was still ongoing and all the Mountain Spirit members were gathered, Bai Yujing realized it was indeed a good opportunity. He stood up and recalled what he had observed from the rooftop regarding the layout of the entire Village.
"Alright, let's decide which direction to approach from. Everyone be cautious and quiet; we must not draw attention from these monsters. At the same time, we need to be ready for battle at any moment. Have you all brought your Sonic Bombs!"
"We've got them all ready; stop wasting time! If we wait until those Mountain Spirit finish their business, we'll be done for!"
Bai Yujing immediately led them around to another side of the Village, circling back to the rocky area behind the Suspended Tower. Here stood a small building made of stone; however, upon closer inspection, Bai Yujing realized it was actually a cave—the small building was merely decorative. The prison was constructed thoughtfully; once inside, there was only one exit. As long as they secured this passageway, those inside would never escape.
Moreover, this place is deep within the Village, surrounded entirely by Mountain Spirit. Once there is any movement, there will be no escape. The distance to the Suspended Tower is not far either, and being trapped inside means there is absolutely no way out. It's no wonder that someone as cunning and evasive as Lin Ruoqiao has been caught inside without any means or intention of escaping.
Bai Yujing looked inside with a telescope; two lanterns were lit at the entrance of the Stone Building, but the light inside was dim, making it impossible to see anything clearly. Li Hao watched Bai Yujing looking around and couldn't wait any longer: “The Mountain Spirit are outside, and there’s no one inside. Let’s hurry in!”
Bai Yujing shook his head: “Don’t be impulsive. I feel like there’s something inside. Why would these Mountain Spirit leave the exit wide open like this?”
Li Hao immediately asked, “What kind of thing?”
Bai Yujing replied, “Didn’t you hear Xu Lei say? Mountain Spirit can summon beasts!”
Bai Yujing quickly took out a box from his backpack, which still had two pieces of leftover Roasted Rabbit Meat from dinner. He added some seasoning and threw it inside. Sure enough, following Bai Yujing’s action, a series of clanking chain sounds echoed from within, and two fierce beasts crawled out from the shadows, peering outside.
The three of them immediately crouched down, carefully hiding their figures. It turned out to be two Donkey-headed Wolves. Bai Yujing had seen this kind of beast before; their size was comparable to that of a tiger. What surprised Bai Yujing even more was that these creatures had keen senses and seemed to have caught a whiff of something, wanting to stick their heads out towards the Stone Building. However, they were tightly bound by thick iron chains and could not move.
In the end, these two hungry Donkey-headed Wolves could not resist the lure of food. Each took a piece and swallowed it down. Bai Yujing immediately checked his watch; sure enough, in less than three minutes, he saw the two ferocious Donkey-headed Wolves collapse on the ground, breathless in an instant.
Li Hao, stunned, looked at Bai Yujing: “What exactly did you add?”
“Sodium Cyanide, highly toxic and lethal. Alright, enough chit-chat; let’s hurry in!” Seeing that the guarding beasts were dealt with, Bai Yujing dashed inside. The cave appeared long and dark within but was dry rather than damp. Bai Yujing used a flashlight to illuminate the path ahead; there were several branching paths inside.
Now that they were here, Bai Yujing, aiming to save time, immediately called out for Lin Ruoqiao. The group split up to search for where Lin Ruoqiao and the others were being held.
At this moment, Lin Ruoqiao felt her stomach growling; she had no strength left to argue with A Ling, nor did she want to. These monsters hadn’t brought any food today; even if they were saving it as rations, they should at least provide a decent meal! Looking down at her chest, she thought,
“I’ve lost so much weight!”
“Lin Ruoqiao!”
“Lin Ruoqiao, can you hear me? Are you there? There's no one else around.”
Lin Ruoqiao, tightly bound, shifted her body slightly: “It's over, I'm so hungry I'm hallucinating. I actually heard Bai Yujing's voice. How could he possibly be here? He's probably out having fun abroad right now!”
“Lin Ruoqiao, are you there?”
At that moment, A Ling also sat up: “Did you hear that? It sounds like someone is calling for you!”
Lin Ruoqiao suddenly sat up, tears almost spilling from her eyes: “Bai Yujing really came! Haha, I knew it! Good people have their blessings. How could someone like me, the protagonist, easily meet my end here? At critical moments, there's always a supporting character to save me!”
“Bai Yujing, Old Bai, I'm here! I'm here! Hurry and save me, please!”
Then they heard hurried footsteps. Bai Yujing kicked open the wooden door and saw Lin Ruoqiao and another woman in the cave. Seeing Lin Ruoqiao bound up like a caterpillar, he immediately rushed over to untie her.
Tears began to flow down Lin Ruoqiao's face: “Why did you take so long to get here? If you had been any later, I would have ended up in the stomachs of those monsters!”
This was the first time Bai Yujing had seen Lin Ruoqiao like this. He wiped her tears with annoyance: “Alright, alright, I'm here now. Your brother came along too and is outside looking for you!”
Lin Ruoqiao's eyes lit up: “My brother is here too! I knew he cared about me the most!”
“Hey! Before you two catch up, can someone please let me go?”
