Death Grip
"When you truly want to break through the Gaze of Fate, you will understand what fate is. Of course, if you don't clarify this point, you won't be able to break through to the Gaze of Fate," Diviner shook his head and said.
He knew that right now, Xing Chen wouldn't understand anything; he would only comprehend this when he was ready to take that step.
"I have a question for you, Senior. Since you have such strong power, why don't you help resolve the difficulties in the Eastern Region? Are you just going to watch it fall?" Xing Chen looked at Diviner and pondered for a moment before speaking.
"It's not that I don't want to intervene, but rather that I can't. If I were to act on my own, the Eastern Region would face even greater dangers than it does now," a hint of helplessness appeared on Diviner's face.
"It seems that you have your own reasons. In that case, I won't press further," Xing Chen decided not to pursue the matter any longer.
"I'll give you a piece of advice: no matter what happens in the future or how powerful you become, as long as you haven't reached Mastering Fate, it's best to listen to this young lady beside you. Otherwise, your end will be quite miserable," Diviner said while looking at Xing Chen.
"I will only act according to my own thoughts; no one can sway my mind," Xing Chen glanced at Meng Xiner and then spoke.
"Hehe..." Diviner chuckled lightly and said nothing more. Then his figure slowly faded away, vanishing right before the eyes of Xing Chen and Meng Xiner.
"Xing Chen, how do you feel?" Just as Xing Chen was frowning in thought, Meng Xiner's voice rang in his ears.
"There is no danger to my life, but during this time I am unable to use any power like an ordinary person; otherwise, I would instantly explode," Xing Chen replied without hesitation.
His current physical condition was terrible. Due to using the forbidden technique Seven Kill Blood Seal! Seven Kill Transformation! and clashing hard with the Jiaolong Emperor, he nearly died. Later, when Punishment controlled his body during the battle with the Jiaolong Emperor, it put an even greater strain on him. The fact that he didn't collapse on the spot was already a blessing. If it weren't for Diviner waking him up, he might have remained unconscious for a long time.
"What should we do now? Your injuries are so severe; is there any way to treat them?" Meng Xiner asked with pursed lips.
"My body can't withstand the potency of the elixir right now, so I can't use it to heal. I can only rely on myself to recover, but I don't know how long this process will take," Xing Chen sighed.
Meng Xiner looked at Xing Chen, remaining silent. After waking up this time, Xing Chen had reverted back to the indifferent personality he had when she first met him. Initially, his gaze towards her had softened, but now it was once again shrouded in coldness. That icy look made Meng Xiner feel quite uncomfortable.
Especially when she thought about what Punishment had instructed her to do, looking into Xing Chen's cold eyes caused her heart to ache.
"I'll take you somewhere to recuperate. Although your injuries are severe, with your recovery ability, you should be able to heal in a year and a half," Meng Xiner said as she helped Xing Chen up, her voice filled with concern.
"A year and a half... Even if I can wait, the Eastern Region won't be able to wait that long!" Xing Chen's voice carried a hint of weakness.
"Don't think about it too much. If the Eastern Region really falls, then that's fate; it has nothing to do with you," Meng Xiner said softly.
"You are now also Gaze of Fate; your perspective on destiny is much stronger than mine. Do you think what that Diviner said was correct?" Xing Chen glanced at Meng Xiner and asked.
"I think... he is not wrong. You should listen to him; otherwise, you might really be unable to break through to Gaze of Fate," Meng Xiner replied slowly after a moment of silence.
"Could it be that I was wrong?" A hint of confusion appeared in Xing Chen's eyes. If it were just the Diviner saying so, he could dismiss it, but now that Meng Xiner was saying the same thing, he began to waver. After all, Meng Xiner was also a strong practitioner of Gaze of Fate now; although she was only at Gaze into the Self, she had stepped into one of the realms of Gaze into the Five Realms. Therefore, even if her words weren't entirely correct, they certainly wouldn't be wrong.
Soon, under Meng Xiner's guidance, the two arrived at a cave. This island was a deserted one with no inhabitants and no powerful beasts, so they didn't have to worry about safety issues. With Meng Xiner's current strength at Gaze into the Self, even if there were real dangers, she could handle them unless a stronger being beyond Gaze into the Self appeared, which could potentially kill them both. However, such beings likely wouldn't come to this Yellow Island.
"Rest well; I'll go get you something to eat," Meng Xiner said with a smile in the cave.
"You’re going to get food?" Xing Chen looked at Meng Xiner with an exaggerated expression. He wouldn't forget that Meng Xiner was an expert in poison; what if she casually added something harmful to the food? Thinking of this made Xing Chen shiver involuntarily.
"What? Are you afraid I'll poison you?" Meng Xiner almost instantly understood what Xing Chen was thinking and teased him playfully. She realized that although Xing Chen became extremely indifferent after using the Fate Jade Pendant, he would quickly return to normal and wouldn't stay cold for long. This discovery eased her worries about him significantly.
But what she didn't know was that only when facing her did Xing Chen's cold demeanor quickly return to normal; if it were someone else, Xing Chen would only become more indifferent.
"No, no, I'm just afraid of tiring you out," Xing Chen said insincerely.
"No matter what, I'm a strong practitioner of Gaze into the Self. How could I possibly tire so easily?" Meng Xiner rolled her eyes and, without waiting for Xing Chen's response, left to find something to eat outside.
"Hate Emperor? Hate Emperor?" After Meng Xiner left, Xing Chen began to call for the Hate Emperor, but to his disappointment, there was no response at all.
This made Xing Chen furrow his brows tightly. He could sense that the Hate Emperor was still in his mind, but at that moment, the Hate Emperor seemed half-dead, quietly floating there without moving or speaking.
"What on earth is going on? What happened after I fainted?" Xing Chen's expression darkened. He could now basically confirm that something important had happened while he was unconscious—something he didn't know about. Otherwise, the Hate Emperor wouldn't be in a coma, and Meng Xiner's gaze towards him wouldn't have changed so strangely.
Meng Xiner's gaze towards him was now very different from before. When she looked at him now, her eyes carried complex emotions—concern, worry, and even a hint of pity. Xing Chen could feel all of this; he just chose not to acknowledge it.
But now that even the Hate Emperor had fallen into a coma, he had no choice but to take this matter seriously.
"Meng Xiner must be hiding something from me," Xing Chen thought, his gaze flickering slightly. He could sense that this matter was not simple, but what puzzled him was what exactly Meng Xiner was concealing from him and why she would hide it.
If she wanted to harm him, that was absolutely impossible. He might not dare to say anything about others, but from Meng Xiner's demeanor, he could tell that she would never harm him.
"The only thing I can do now is wait for the Hate Emperor to wake up and ask him," Xing Chen thought.
Before long, Meng Xiner returned with a lot of wild fruits and a few fish. However, the fish she roasted was something Xing Chen couldn't compliment at all.
Even if an ordinary fish was overcooked, it would still be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. But the fish Meng Xiner roasted was burnt on the inside and tender on the outside, leaving Xing Chen unsure of how to eat it. He could only nibble on a few wild fruits to avoid starving too badly.
In the following days, Xing Chen rarely experienced a peaceful life. Aside from lying in the cave to recover from his injuries, as time passed, his wounds gradually healed.
After about a month, Xing Chen's internal injuries had somewhat improved. Although he still couldn't use Vital Energy, at least he could move around freely without Meng Xiner supporting him.
During this time, he had been contemplating the Diviner's words and the theory about fate that the Diviner had presented.
He occasionally went to the nearby riverbank to quietly watch the flowing water. From time to time, one or two fish would swim by in the river, all moving in the direction of the current. They swam very quickly.
After observing for more than two months, Xing Chen had not seen a single fish swimming upstream, which made him increasingly skeptical of the Diviner's words.
"What's wrong? Are you here again to watch the fish?" Just as Xing Chen sat by the riverbank again, gazing at the fish swimming by, Meng Xiner's voice sounded from behind him.
They had been living on this deserted island for about three months. During this time, Xing Chen's injuries had healed better than in the first month; he could now operate Vital Energy and exert his strength at the Human Soul Realm level.
"I initially thought there was some truth to the Diviner's words, but after observing for nearly three months, I haven't seen a single fish swimming upstream. Is his theory wrong?" A hint of disdain appeared on Xing Chen's lips as he spoke.
"The Diviner's words definitely have merit. The reason you haven't seen any fish swimming upstream is that they haven't encountered danger yet; naturally, they will choose this energy-saving method. But what if they face danger?" Meng Xiner replied.
