At that moment, the Spine Whip in Thousand Demons' hand began to swing, buzzing like an airplane propeller in the air. Just a slight brush could leave someone severely injured.
“Taotie! Be careful!” Xiang Xueer and Taotie had previously fought against Thousand Demons and naturally knew the power of the whip in his hand. Bakemono noticed their gaze shifting toward Thousand Demons and finally began to take action.
He quickly removed his cloak, and all 206 bones in his body instantly separated, attacking Xiang Xueer. She was alarmed, thinking, “Oh no, there are too many!”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bullets flew from the gun's chamber, moving as fast as arrows. She began shooting at the bones in the sky, but there were too many; many bones still bypassed her counterattack and rushed toward her.
With a loud crack, Thousand Demons' Spine Whip wrapped around Taotie's Dragon Tail like a Giant Snake, pulling with all its might. In an instant, it swung Taotie and the two people on his back toward the ground.
The sound of rushing wind filled their ears. Taotie struggled to maintain balance and directed his body toward a low patch of grass, whispering, “Master, I must return to the Void Realm now. I can only try to get you onto the grass!”
“Understood!” Xiang Xueer nodded and tightly held onto Lian Cheng Xue's body, both trying to keep their heads up. With a thud, Taotie vanished in a puff of smoke. “Be careful, Master!”
The painful sensation of branches scraping past them filled their ears as they fell onto a Tree Trunk. After the cushioning from the branches, they landed on the soft grass below. Despite anticipating the impact, it still left them feeling overwhelmed.
“Ah!” Xiang Xueer screamed in pain as her back hit the ground. Lian Cheng Xue landed on top of her, serving as a human cushion and sustaining minimal injury.
“Miss Xueer, are you okay?” Lian Cheng Xue quickly sat up and looked at Xiang Xueer, whose eyes were spinning with stars.
“Cough cough!” Xiang Xueer coughed a few times and touched her cheek where it had been scraped. It took her a while to regain her composure. “Oh, big brother, please get off me quickly! I might not die from the fall but will definitely be crushed by you!”
Only then did Lian Cheng Xue realize he was still sitting on Xiang Xueer and hurriedly stood up with embarrassment, repeatedly apologizing. “I’m sorry! I’m really sorry! Are you okay?”
Xiang Xueer rubbed her sore waist and sat up, complaining, “How can I be okay? Falling from such a height without a parachute is already lucky if I don’t die!”
Lian Cheng Xue turned his head to look around. They were in a forest not far from Ghost Night Village, and nearby, some Little Goblins were continuously fleeing, not even glancing at them as they hurried away.
"Tch! This group of cowardly Platypuses, they all have the same character at heart!" Xiang Xueer helped Lian Cheng Xue to stand up and surveyed the terrain. "Hmm, this place has good cover; it's perfect for us to hide!"
"Hiding? What do you mean?" Lian Cheng Xue immediately opposed upon hearing this. "No way! I swore long ago that I would avenge my people by slaying these Demons!"
"Avenge, avenge, that's all you think about!" Xiang Xueer retorted angrily. "Did you not see the battle just now? Even Taotie was injured! With your current state, how do you expect to take revenge? I've told you before, a gentleman waits ten years for revenge. Listen to me; let's hide first. Once our reinforcements arrive, you'll have your chance for revenge!"
Just as Lian Cheng Xue was about to argue back, suddenly footsteps could be heard nearby. Xiang Xueer quickly covered his mouth with her hand and pulled him into a nearby tall patch of grass.
Sure enough, it was the Thousand Demons that had come after them. Xiang Xueer held her breath, hiding in the grass. She was covered in scratches and felt sore all over, while Lian Cheng Xue was also severely injured and unable to help. Therefore, the best course of action was to hide; if they could avoid detection, they would. If not, they would fight—this was common sense in warfare!
The Thousand Demons searched the area for a while, looking around as if they were tracking sounds. However, after searching for some time without finding anything, they headed off in another direction.
"Ha!" Xiang Xueer sighed deeply. Meanwhile, Lian Cheng Xue could no longer contain himself; he pushed her hand away from his mouth. "We can't keep hiding like this, Miss Xueer. Isn't it obvious that we are afraid of them?"
Xiang Xueer was momentarily at a loss for how to explain this to the stubborn youth. "It's not about fear; it's a tactical issue! Do you understand?"
"I don't understand!" Lian Cheng Xue finally reached his limit. He had long been blinded by hatred; now that he had finally encountered his father's murderer, how could he possibly hold back?
This was infuriating! Xiang Xueer had told him many times: "How can this blockhead be just like Li Yunyang, completely unable to adapt?"
"I am a blockhead!" He exclaimed as he drew out his Black Iron Sword. "Miss Xueer, thank you for taking care of me all this time. I will not rest until I avenge this grudge! So I have decided to take matters into my own hands!"
"What?" Before Xiang Xueer could react, Lian Cheng Xue rushed toward the direction of the Thousand Demons with his sword drawn. She angrily shouted after him, "Lian Cheng Xue, you idiot! This is suicide! If you die, don’t blame me for not warning you!"
"I know!" Lian Cheng Xue had made up his mind. He turned to Xiang Xueer and smiled brightly, "Miss Xueer, it's so great to meet you. Even if I die, I will always remember you!"
After saying that, he quickly disappeared into the forest. Xiang Xueer stood there in a daze. What did that mean? A farewell before death plus a confession? She was filled with anger but had no place to vent it. She stomped her foot on the ground, "Go away! Go away! I wouldn't care if you died!"
Even though he knew he couldn't compete with Lian Cheng Xue, his footsteps grew faster as he chased after him. Sure enough, after not long, he immediately spotted the Thousand Demons searching for traces. Just as he was about to approach, he suddenly stopped.
Right, Xiang Xueer had always said to use tactics flexibly. An idea flashed in his mind, so he picked up a stone and threw it at the feet of the Thousand Demons.
The sound of the stone hitting the ground immediately caught the attention of the Thousand Demons. It cautiously turned its head toward the source of the sound and searched for a while but found nothing.
Just as it was about to leave, a figure quickly darted out from behind it. A black longsword pierced through the cloak of the Thousand Demons with a 'thud', creating a large hole from its back to its chest.
Lian Cheng Xue gripped the hilt tightly with his left hand and smiled, "Hmph, Miss Xueer is indeed clever; so this is how tactics are used!"
"Hmm?" The Thousand Demons looked down at the sudden foreign object protruding from its chest. Its yellow eyes immediately sparkled with surprise. It twisted its head back and stared intently at Lian Cheng Xue.
"What’s going on?" Lian Cheng Xue thought he had injured the Thousand Demons, but then it reached out and removed its cloak, revealing its entire hollow skeletal structure. The Black Iron Sword had pierced through the center of its spine, yet the Thousand Demons showed no signs of injury whatsoever.
"Oh no!" Lian Cheng Xue was horrified; he had completely forgotten that these creatures had no flesh or organs—just hollow bones. It tilted its head and tightened one hand around his neck, lifting him off the ground.
"Cough cough cough!" Lian Cheng Xue struggled desperately, stabbing at the Thousand Demons with his Black Iron Sword repeatedly, but no matter how many times he struck it, the Thousand Demons remained completely unharmed.
