"Princess is absolutely right!" As soon as Heart Demon finished speaking, he suddenly furrowed his brows and turned around, shouting loudly, "Who is that little pest? Come out!"
"Hmm?" Witch followed his gaze and indeed, from the darkness, a figure gradually emerged. Unbeknownst to them, someone had been spying, but this Heart Demon was truly impressive; it would be a shame if he died.
"Heart Demon, hand over my husband!" Ling Zhu stepped out from the shadows with a grim expression, extending her hand and preparing for battle. Since she had already been discovered, there was no other choice but to fight. Xiang Xueer was currently under Witch's control and could not help her, so she had to rely on herself.
"It's you again!" Heart Demon stared at Ling Zhu, a chilling Killing Intent evident in his eyes. "You really don't know when to quit. Last time I let you escape, and now you come knocking on my door!"
Cold sweat broke out on Ling Zhu's forehead. Both Heart Demon and Witch were far too powerful; she was no match for them. She had overheard their conversation earlier, and it was clear that survival was impossible. Heart Demon would surely kill her to silence her.
Killing Intent began to spread in the dark night. Before long, Ling Zhu engaged in battle with Heart Demon. Meanwhile, Witch stood by with her arms crossed, bored as she watched the fight unfold.
Vines danced in the air as Ling Zhu put all her strength into the fight. The battle continued for quite some time until Witch grew tired of watching and simply found a place to sit down and rest. If she had some sunflower seeds, it wouldn't hurt to watch for entertainment.
At that moment, Serpent Empress, who had been informed that Xiang Xueer and others wanted to kill Heart Demon, also arrived at this location. She hid in a difficult spot and watched for a while. Sitting on a rock was Xiang Xueer, while the two combatants were Ling Zhu and her opponent: Heart Demon.
"Hmph! That damned Masked Man was right; this group wants to kill Heart Demon too. Since that's the case, I might as well take advantage of the situation!" Serpent Empress's red eyes twirled as she stood aside, waiting for an opportunity to benefit.
However, Ling Zhu was no match for Heart Demon. After several exchanges, she was defeated and collapsed on the ground, spitting blood. Heart Demon sneered and elegantly put away his jade flute.
"Ling Zhu, I never expected you would dare betray me! You should have known what kind of end you would meet!" Heart Demon stood still, seemingly in no hurry to take her life.
Ling Zhu clutched her chest; after Heart Demon's strike, her heart's pulse had been thrown into chaos. She cried out, "Heart Demon! As long as you return my husband to me, do whatever you want with me!"
"Your husband?" Upon hearing this, Heart Demon threw back his head and laughed wildly. "Ling Zhu, you are truly naive! Let me tell you—he's long dead! In this world—" You foolish woman actually believe those lies? Do you really think your husband is still in my hands? Would I keep him alive for so long?"
Ling Zhu suddenly realized that her husband had already been killed by Heart Demon. How could such a ruthless being possibly leave a survivor for so long? Everything had been a lie; it was all a trap.
"I... I want to kill you!" Ling Zhu crazily got up from the ground and lunged at Heart Demon, determined that even if she died, she would drag Heart Demon down with her.
"Overestimating yourself!" Heart Demon squinted, not taking her seriously at all. He simply took out the Luring Demon Pot he had picked up earlier from his sleeve and shook it in his hand. "Ling Zhu, thank you for your Luring Demon Pot; why don't you come inside as well!"
This is bad. The Luring Demon Pot— even if Ling Zhu wasn't a demon, being sucked into it wouldn't be fun. She quickly stopped her attack and stood her ground, angrily scolding Heart Demon, "Despicable and shameless."
"Tch, really useless!" Serpent Empress, who had been secretly watching from behind a tree, could no longer hold back. She had intended for them to fight until both were injured, but she didn't expect Ling Zhu to be so ineffective, defeated in just a few moves.
Looks like I have to take action myself. A gust of cold wind swirled around Serpent Empress's feet as she extended her sharp claws and lunged at Heart Demon's back, hoping for a surprise attack. However, Heart Demon seemed to have been prepared and swiftly turned to evade Serpent Empress's strike.
"Oh my, oh my, who is this?" Heart Demon crossed his arms and stared at the suddenly appearing Serpent Empress, unable to suppress a cold laugh. "So it's Serpent Empress. What’s wrong? Have you been hiding there watching for so long that you finally decided to come out?"
That bastard Heart Demon! Even though she was hiding so well, he still discovered her. Since that's the case, there’s no need for her to hide anymore. She glanced at Ling Zhu and said, "Hey, Vine Demon, how about we join forces?"
Ling Zhu stared at Serpent Empress for a long time. This fellow never comes without a scheme; why would she suddenly propose an alliance? What kind of trick is she playing?
"Vine Demon? Hmph! I am Celestial Fruit; you damned snake!" Ling Zhu readied herself for another attack. "Sorry, I can't trust you. You can do whatever you want; teaming up? No way."
Serpent Empress rolled her eyes at her. Even without teaming up, their attack targets were the same. Just then, Witch jumped down from a nearby rock. "Hey, Heart Demon, do you need me to help?"
"No need for the princess to take action; I can handle this myself," Heart Demon replied as he put away the Luring Demon Pot and took out a jade flute instead. With a twist of his waist, it transformed into a blue longsword; dealing with Serpent Empress would require some real skill.
"Hmm?" Serpent Empress was startled. She had thought it was Xiang Xueer sitting there watching the battle from afar; instead, it was that damned Witch. How annoying! She hadn’t assessed the situation properly. Fortunately, this dead woman didn’t seem ready to join the fight; still, she had to be cautious.
Witch pouted her lips when she saw that Heart Demon didn’t appreciate her goodwill and indeed turned back to the rock side, crossing her arms and waiting to see the next act unfold.
In an instant, the situation turned into a three-way melee. What was originally a battle between Ling Zhu and Heart Demon unexpectedly attracted the Serpent Empress, who came to join the fray like a fisherman reaping the benefits. As a result, the forest quickly became chaotic.
The Serpent Empress transformed into her true form, a giant snake that raised its head and opened its massive jaws to launch a fierce attack on the Heart Demon below.
Meanwhile, the Vine in Ling Zhu's hand danced in the air, continuously blocking Heart Demon's attacks. Although it was their first collaboration, Ling Zhu and Serpent Empress managed to work together reasonably well, and before long, they surprisingly gained the upper hand.
The Witch, who had not yet finished her battle, finally grew impatient and began urging from the sidelines: "Hey, Heart Demon, when are you going to be ready? My time is very precious!"
Heart Demon had no time to respond to the Witch. He had to fend off two attackers while also defending himself. The main threat was still the Serpent Empress; she was no ordinary opponent and could not be easily dealt with.
Veins bulged on the Witch's forehead as she finally jumped down from the stone steps. She stretched her hands to loosen her muscles and then fixed her red eyes on the three engaged in combat.
"Better lend a hand to avoid endless fighting!" Just as she prepared to step forward, a deer-like cry suddenly echoed from the valley ahead, growing louder as it rushed toward them.
Something was coming. The Witch immediately withdrew her hands; a powerful aura filled the air—it was a magical beast. She looked up sharply to see a creature resembling a deer, with long antlers and covered in colorful scales, trailing a tail like that of an ox. It raised its head and let out a howl toward the sky.
"It's the Qilin Beast!" The Witch exclaimed in shock as an ancient divine beast suddenly appeared in the sky. Its hooves were engulfed in red flames as everyone looked up to see that atop its back stood a person dressed in white robes.
With a leap, he descended from the sky and landed steadily among the three fighters. His white robe fluttered in the wind; he was slender with high cheekbones, silver hair, and beard that gave him an air of an enlightened master.
"Who dares to interfere?" Ling Zhu shouted angrily. The Serpent Empress and Heart Demon standing nearby immediately realized that this person was not ordinary; there were very few in this world capable of taming the Qilin Beast as a Demon Beast.
