Yun Kexin was anxiously pacing in the room at the Summer Palace, glancing around and occasionally peeking out the door to see if Feng Yinxiao had returned. She wondered if he had gone to "verify" things with Shanling, which would be even more embarrassing! In her anxiety, she heard faint footsteps outside the door, and her heart skipped a beat. She tidied her hair and adjusted her sleeves before sitting back down in front of the bed, straining to listen to the sounds outside. Moments later, a series of knocks echoed like a heartbeat against her chest, "knock knock."
"Yun Kexin, are you inside? It's Feng Zicen," came Feng Yinxiao's magnetic voice.
Yun Kexin pressed her hand to her chest and replied, "The door isn't locked."
With a creak, Feng Yinxiao pushed the door open. The first thing he saw was Yun Kexin's slightly shy face. Upon seeing him enter, she quickly lowered her head, wondering if he would "interrogate" her. How could she respond?! In an instant, Yun Kexin felt overwhelmed but was too embarrassed to ask anything. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Feng Yinxiao sitting beside her and felt him rest his hand on her shoulder.
"Yun Kexin, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Yun Kexin was taken aback. Wasn't he going to ask anything else? After adjusting her mood, she replied, "No."
"No? Then why are you hiding in the bedroom during the day?" Feng Yinxiao feigned confusion and leaned closer to whisper in her ear, "And why did you close the door so tightly?"
What did he mean by "hiding" in here? This man's words were truly mischievous.
Yun Kexin pouted in dissatisfaction; it was clear he was asking just to make her confess.
"Hmph, when did I close the door tightly?" Yun Kexin raised her head as if caught off guard and pouted at Feng Yinxiao, saying, "I just closed it; I didn't lock it. Otherwise, how could you come in by yourself?"
Feng Yinxiao playfully pecked at her pouting lips. Yun Kexin shyly swatted at him, making Feng Yinxiao feel sweet inside.
"Yun Kexin, you're really silly." He held Yun Kexin's soft hand affectionately.
"W-what do you mean 'silly'?" Yun Kexin lowered her head again, her heart racing as she retorted.
"Still not willing to admit it?" Feng Yinxiao leaned closer to Yun Kexin, brushing his warm lips against her cheek as he tenderly confessed, "Years ago, I went through hardships but survived. I always thought it was fate that spared me from death until today when I realized it was you who saved my life when I was hanging by a thread..."
"Feng Yinxiao, stop! You were in a dire situation back then; I had no choice," Yun Kexin listened to Feng Yinxiao's heartfelt words and felt both moved and shy. She feared he would ask about the details from back then; how could she explain? So she interrupted him abruptly, saying, "If there had been another way, I absolutely would not have... absolutely would not..." Yun Kexin felt embarrassed and couldn't continue.
"I know; I understand everything," Feng Yinxiao gently reassured the flustered Yun Kexin. He took her earlobe between his warm lips and said softly, "I just want things to be... 'fairer' for you."
Yun Kexin was startled, instinctively trying to move aside, but Feng Yinxiao's strong arms held her tightly in his embrace, making it difficult for her to move at all.
"What... be a bit fairer?" Yun Kexin realized that today she was destined to play the fool, as she found herself unable to do anything else.
With Yun Kexin's exclamation, the two of them fell back onto the bed behind them.
"Feng Yinxiao, what are you doing? It's broad daylight; don't mess around," Yun Kexin said in a panic, pushing against Feng Yinxiao's chest and whispering, "There are a lot of people outside."
"It's nothing, Yun Kexin, just lift your head," Feng Yinxiao said with a mischievous smile. "I just want to share a little secret with you."
"A secret?" Yun Kexin was taken aback, her round eyes widening in confusion. "What secret?"
Feng Yinxiao cupped one side of Yun Kexin's face with his hand, his cool lips drawing closer as he said:
"So you've already seen me completely, Yun Kexin. Now it should be fair; let me see your body..." His tone was like a child asking for candy.
His implication made her face flush bright red, and feeling shy and unable to hide, she buried her head into his chest to prevent him from seeing her blushing face like an apple. She pouted and said, "That's not how it is, Feng Yinxiao. I did that to save someone, not... not... don't get carried away."
She silently lamented how Shan Yue could be so reckless with her words.
"Save someone? Then let me ask you first," Feng Yinxiao loosened one arm and looked at Yun Kexin with mischief in his eyes. "Did Yun Kexin take off my clothes?"
"Yes," Yun Kexin replied softly.
"Did Yun Kexin need to use her body heat to warm me up? Does that mean you also have to take off your clothes and lie on top of me?" Feng Yinxiao teased Yun Kexin endlessly; he loved her shy and flustered side.
"What did that big mouth Shan Yue tell you?" Yun Kexin glared up at him in anger, completely forgetting her earlier shyness. "How can she say those things? I can't stand it; I'm going to find her."
Yun Kexin huffed angrily as she struggled to get up, but it was merely a pretense to "escape." Unexpectedly, Feng Yinxiao seemed to see through her intentions and tightened his hold on her arm while smiling.
"Alright, alright, Yun Kexin, don't be angry. It's not Shan Yue's fault; it's all my imagination."
As soon as the words left Feng Yinxiao's mouth, he blushed. Yun Kexin was at a loss for words: this imagination was a bit too rich.
"Then why doesn't Feng Yinxiao let go of me?!" Yun Kexin took the opportunity to say.
"Yun Kexin hasn't agreed to me yet?" Feng Yinxiao's deep, dark eyes sparkled with sweetness.
"Um... let's talk about it tonight." Yun Kexin really had no choice but to adopt a delaying tactic, pushing the issue until the evening to find a solution.
Thinking that Feng Yinxiao would definitely respond childishly, she was surprised when he readily agreed, gazing at her tenderly and saying, "Alright, Yun Kexin, we'll fulfill the 'promise' tonight. Let's take it slow." Before he finished speaking, he already felt her face burning like fire. With a mischievous smile, his hand slipped under her clothing, teasingly moving about. "What's there to be shy about? I've already 'navigated' Yun Kexin's body before; tonight is for appreciation and 'getting to know'—it feels so good—"
What? When did she ever "promise" to let him see her tonight? This man was too clever by half.
Feng Yinxiao's hot palm lovingly caressed every part of Yun Kexin's body. His rough fingertips playfully pinched her pert little peak, causing her to gasp repeatedly. The silky softness felt so good that he couldn't help but want to "feast his eyes" on it first. Yun Kexin was completely defeated; she never knew that Feng Yinxiao not only would "get hands-on," but also made shameless jokes that were so embarrassing.
"Feng Yinxiao, you... you shouldn't do this," Yun Kexin pleaded almost desperately. "Some things are better kept in our hearts."
"Alright, 'a gentleman speaks but does not act.' I won't be a gentleman today," Feng Yinxiao said with a sly smile as he lifted his thin lips and whispered, "'Acting without speaking'..."
After saying this, his heated hand wandered beneath her clothing with an increasingly teasing touch, stirring her fragile heartstrings—Yun Kexin, who was experiencing the sweetness of foreplay for the first time, seemed to have gotten used to Feng Yinxiao's "recklessness," allowing his hands to "run amok" on her body. Gradually, his breathing became heavier; this was a signal that he was trying hard to suppress his physiological reactions.
Yun Kexin recalled that this situation wasn't new; it seemed she had felt his restraint since their honeymoon began... She remembered her mother's teachings and warnings about marital relations before their wedding and suddenly felt a pang in her heart: was she being a bit stubborn? They were already husband and wife, and such touching and intimacy could be faced openly; what was there to avoid regarding that last "line of defense"? Looking back now, she realized she had been somewhat "hypocritical."
"Husband, can we wait until tonight?" Yun Kexin buried her face in Feng Yinxiao's shoulder blade, sweetly seeking his opinion. "This moment really isn't appropriate."
Such shy and subtle hints made Feng Yinxiao's heart race.
"Alright, we'll wait until tonight," he replied softly with a mischievous grin. "We’ll settle the 'accounts' properly then—Yun Kexin better keep her word; otherwise, just wait and see how I 'handle' you in bed."
Yun Kexin shyly and playfully tapped Feng Yinxiao's chest. After a few taps, he took her hand and placed it on his chest, teasingly kissing and pecking her. In the midst of their affectionate moment, they heard a maid calling from outside:
"Young Lord, Madam, it's time for lunch."
"Okay, got it. We'll be there shortly," Feng Yinxiao instructed towards the door.
"Yes." The maid waited for a moment at the door but seeing no movement, she left.
Feng Yinxiao and Yun Kexin quickly got up, first going to the washroom to wash their faces, tidy their hair and clothes. They checked themselves in the mirror from side to side, ensuring there were no "lingering marks" before sharing a knowing smile as they headed out together.
The Duke of Yan's Residence Main Hall was located in the West Wing Garden, where Duke of Yan and the Duchess lived. Usually, everyone gathered here for meals. Jiangyin Marquis Feng Hongwen and his wife Yang Yulan, along with their five-year-old son Feng Yinxiao, lived in the eastern wing of the residence. Feng Yulu and Feng Yinfai, a pair of half-siblings, resided in two rooms in the North Courtyard. At this moment, the whole family was gathered in the Dining Room waiting for Feng Yinxiao and his wife.
"Father, Mother, when will Cousin and Cousin-in-law arrive?" Feng Yinxiao stared at the table full of delicious food, drooling.
"Xiang'er, just wait a bit longer," Feng Hongwen said expressionlessly. "I already sent a maid to call them; they should be here shortly. The Summer Palace is a bit far from here; it takes time to walk."
"But Xiang'er is hungry," Feng Yinxiao said, holding his stomach and looking pitifully at Yang Yulan. "Mother, I'm so hungry; my stomach is growling."
Feng Hongrui's expression turned stern while the Yang family looked impatient. Finally, Duchess Zhuo Min spoke up to ease the tension: "Xiang'er, dear, Auntie will give you some elbow meat to eat; come on." Zhuo Min gestured with her eyes to the maid behind Feng Yinxiao while addressing everyone present. "Let's start eating first; the Summer Palace isn't far from here; they should arrive soon."
