Bai Tang did not enjoy the excitement for long, as it was confirmed that these Energy Panels were all scrap. Except for one that still had a little energy left, the others showed no energy response at all. Bai Tang transferred the remaining bit of energy from the panel to her own energy board. Although it was a small amount, every little bit counts; with this energy replenished, she could stay outside a bit longer without suddenly shutting down.
"Now that we know what the energy panels are like, our main focus will be finding more energy panels," Bai Tang formulated her next search plan.
"Master, energy is not only found in energy panels; many items also contain energy. I will do my best to help you find more energy!"
"Then I’ll leave it to you." Bai Tang had already confirmed that the energy from the panels could be absorbed by the Time-Space Gate. Once she found enough energy panels, she would be able to go home. Even though having someone to talk to was nice, Bai Tang still felt uneasy in this vast and lonely environment.
With a purposeful search, Bai Tang and her companion found many energy panels. Most were discarded, but some still contained varying amounts of energy. After transferring half of the energy to her own panel, she instantly felt revitalized and full of strength; she could work for another hundred years without shutting down.
Holding the remaining panels in front of Bai Tang, her companion's bulb-like eyes blinked excitedly as it lifted one panel after another into the air. The energy was then absorbed by something invisible in the void, turning the panels into waste. Filled with admiration, it thought how mysterious and amazing its new master was.
Bai Tang's almond-shaped eyes narrowed into crescent moons as she gazed at the energy bar beneath the second Time-Space Gate; it was full! She could go home! Excitedly, Bai Tang packed the remaining energy panels into her bag. These panels were enough for another round trip. However, Bai Tang wasn't in a hurry to go home; there were so many good things (junk) here! If she dug up more to sell in her Online Store, it would be quite a profit. Plus, she hadn’t even found a Spaceship yet!
"Master, master! I found it! I found it!" Her companion zoomed over on its two short legs turned wheels, shouting excitedly.
"You found it?" Bai Tang's eyes lit up. "Quick, take me there!"
"Yes, yes!" It replied repeatedly as it led Bai Tang to the location of the discovered Spaceship.
"This is a Juno XII Type; it's a type of Spaceship that can only carry five people at most and is quite slow—an outdated model. This one must have been collected by some wealthy family," it chattered beside Bai Tang.
"Regardless of whether it's active or a collectible, as long as it can fly, that's all that matters. Can you check if it can still fly?" Bai Tang asked while touching the hull of the Spaceship. It resembled what she had seen in sci-fi magazines about UFOs—like two plates inverted on top of each other.
Following Bai Tang's command, its bulb-like eyes emitted beams of light as they scanned the Spaceship from inside out.
"Master, the Spaceship is well-preserved and has sufficient energy; it can fly."
"Really?" Bai Tang's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Quickly open the hatch! Let's conquer the stars and seas with it!"
"Master, where are the stars and seas?" Two question marks appeared in its eyes.
Bai Tang coughed twice and said, "Forget about the stars and the sea. Do you know the coordinates and routes for immigrating to other planets?"
Frustration: "Master, I am just a Home Robot; I have no access to government secrets."
Bai Tang felt disheartened. "What about the coordinates of other inhabited planets?"
Lowering its head, it replied, "I'm sorry! I am useless."
Bai Tang patted its round head and said, "It's not your fault; you are very useful. Besides, after a thousand years, who knows if the original coordinates have changed? Alright, cheer up! Once we gather enough energy, we can pilot the Spaceship ourselves to search for inhabited planets in the universe. At that time, the task of piloting the Spaceship will fall to you since I don't know how to fly it!"
Instead of feeling encouraged by this responsibility, it said, "Master, the Juno XII Type is limited by technology and cannot fly beyond the Solar System. It can only reach Pluto Wang Xing!"
Bai Tang: "..."
So, from now on, my cargo delivery location will only be this abandoned Earth? All the latest technologies and my most desired Mecha are just dreams?
How frustrating! Bai Tang sighed and asked the system if we could change our landing point.
The system replied that since you are originally from Earth, you can only land on Earth unless you become a Martian; then I can help you switch your landing to Mars!
Bai Tang retorted: "System, can we still have fun together?"
The system: "Hehe."
A bright point of light flickered in the sky and enlarged. Bai Tang blinked and realized it wasn't seeing things.
"Look up! Is something falling down?"
Looking up, it said, "Master, it seems to be a type of Spaceship. Smoke is billowing from the back of the ship; it might have had an accident and is forced to make an emergency landing!"
"Finally, we see a living person!" Bai Tang exclaimed with joy. "Let's go save them!"
Bai Tang hopped and skipped toward the place where the white light fell, and after about ten minutes, they found their target.
Looking at the smooth, seamless oval object, Bai Tang turned and asked, "Where is the door?"
Shaking his head in confusion, he replied, "This type of Spaceship is not in my database. I don't understand it and don't know where the door is!"
"Do we really have to smash the hull to rescue him?" Bai Tang pondered, stroking her chin. "But if we break the Spaceship, how will we leave Earth if it can't be repaired?"
Bai Tang was caught in a dilemma. Should she smash it or not? Before she could make a decision, the hatch of the Spaceship opened on its own, and a young man in military uniform crawled out. The man's face was resolute and handsome, with long silver hair that resembled moonlight, but unfortunately, it was stained with blood. He struggled to lift his head and, upon seeing Bai Tang and realizing they were not there to kill him, he fainted in relief.
"Well, we're lucky to encounter a handsome guy," Bai Tang said cheerfully. She had been mentally prepared to crawl out a spider-like creature or an alien with a big head and large eyes, but instead, it was a human like herself—and so handsome at that.
"Master, we need to save him quickly; he’s going to die!" The Robot lifted the weak man without caring about his looks. The aesthetic standards of robots are quite different from those of humans.
Indeed, if he wasn't treated soon in such a frail state, this hard-to-come-by person would really die.
Bai Tang quickly took out a healing pill and placed it in the man's mouth. Fortunately, the pill dissolved instantly; otherwise, given his weakness that made swallowing impossible, administering medicine would have been a challenge. Don’t expect Bai Tang to be like those romance novel heroines who gently feed medicine with their mouths; Sister Bai likes looking at handsome guys but absolutely won't get personally involved—she's very pure!
The man's injuries were severe, but Bai Tang's healing medicine was extraordinary. Just as she laid him down on a flat surface, he woke up.
"Did you save me?" the man asked weakly.
"Yes!" Bai Tang nodded, pleasantly surprised to find that he spoke Huaxia, making communication easy.
"What is your name?" the man continued to ask.
"According to etiquette, shouldn't you introduce yourself before asking someone else's name?" Bai Tang sat down on the ground without caring that her clothes were covered in mud.
The man smiled as if a spring breeze had brushed past him, carrying a hint of flirtation: "I was presumptuous. Hello! My name is Kate Sean, Colonel of the Third Army of the Alliance. May I ask what your name is?"
"My name is Bai Tang. What is your Alliance?"
"You don't know about the Alliance?" Kate was surprised. Is there still anyone who doesn't know about the Alliance and the Empire? That's even more astonishing than an astronaut not knowing how to operate a spaceship.
"Why should I know? I've lived on this desolate planet since I was born, never seen an outsider, so of course, I've never heard of the Alliance!" Bai Tang pouted deliberately, pretending to be angry.
Kate then remembered that in order to escape from being hunted, she had fled to a rather remote area. Before her emergency landing, she had learned from her holographic computer that this was a desolate planet. As a native, it was possible for Bai Tang not to know about the Alliance.
"The Alliance and the Wei Huashi Empire are the two major nations in the universe..."
From Kate Sean's narration, Bai Tang learned that in this future world, there were only two forces: the Alliance and the Wei Huashi Empire. Two thousand years ago, the Wei Huashi Empire only existed on an advanced planet. Later, as their technology and economy grew stronger, the Empire's ambitions expanded as well. They launched aggressive wars, causing many planets to become their vassals. The remaining planets, unwilling to be ruled by the Wei Huashi Empire, rose up in rebellion and established the Alliance. For over a thousand years, wars continued between the Empire and the Alliance until they finally eased somewhat in the last two or three hundred years.
"So you were being chased by the Empire's army this time?" Bai Tang asked curiously. Had she inadvertently chosen a side?
"No, I was being pursued by Interstellar Pirates! I was ordered to eliminate pirates, but unexpectedly there was a traitor in my ranks. Although my subordinates eliminated the pirates, I fell into their trap and was chased by them all the way. If it weren't for your rescue, I would have lost my life," Kate said gratefully. After talking so much, her throat was dry, and she couldn't help but cough.
Bai Tang turned around, flipped her hand, took out a bottle of water, and turned back to hand it to Kate.
"Thank you!" Kate was already able to sit up. She twisted off the cap and took a sip of water. "What about the other people on this planet?"
