Old Monster walked ahead, suddenly turning back at an unknown moment and said to Li Rui, "Stay put, I’ll be out for a while."
Just as Old Monster was about to leave, he remembered something and stopped, placing Seven-Inch Heart and Soul-Settling Grass into Li Rui's hands.
"By the way, keep Seven-Inch Heart and Soul-Settling Grass with you!"
Li Rui was about to say something, but Old Monster swiftly vanished like a ghost, leaving only an afterimage behind.
Li Rui shook his head. Did this guy really not worry that he might get greedy and keep these precious items for himself?
Feeling drowsy, Li Rui yawned and leaped onto a branch, leaning against the trunk of a tree.
He didn’t know how long he had been asleep, but when Li Rui woke up, Old Monster still hadn’t returned.
He jumped down from the tree and set up a pot. Today he had hunted a massive Wild Boar, which lay on the ground with a large gash in its neck, blood gushing out.
As Li Rui was skinning the Wild Boar, some blood splattered onto his face.
After a while, the Wild Boar was processed in silence. After eating, seeing that Old Monster still showed no signs of returning, he found a tree fork and began to rest.
The night was pitch black, especially in the depths of the forest. The vast moonlight draped over this part of the world like a curtain. In the darkness where one could not see their own hand in front of their face, fear easily took hold. The trees around him were dense with branches and leaves, creating layers of clear shadows that resembled countless clawing monsters stretching out their menacing limbs.
At midnight, a few stars in the sky gradually dimmed. After a while, a Full Moon slowly rose from the horizon like a giant jade plate, shining coldly.
Li Rui slept lightly; perhaps in this place, he dared not sleep too deeply. He turned over as the cold moonlight fell upon him like frost.
Suddenly, he sensed a movement at his ear. In an instant, his body leaped up like an eagle, his long whip swinging out as his silhouette danced in the moonlight.
"Clang!"
A sharp sound of weapons clashing echoed in the stillness of the night, crisp and clear.
"Who goes there!"
Li Rui's voice was loud as he stood atop a tall tree, coldly asking.
However, no one answered. Apart from the sound of the night wind, the entire night felt like a clear lake, empty except for the ripples created by the disturbance.
"Who disturbs me!"
Li Rui stepped forward, his gaze sharp as he looked ahead.
A rustling sound came from the darkness. After a moment, a man's light laughter broke the silence. The voice was high-pitched and harsh, making it clear that he was not a good person just from the sound.
"Hehe, Spiritual Herb, interesting, interesting..."
Li Rui sniffed and suddenly realized that a rich medicinal fragrance had filled the air without him noticing. In an instant, it spread out in all directions from where they stood, enveloping the forest.
"What... what is this?"
Li Rui turned his head, looking at the man with a surprised expression.
Li Rui patted his waist and suddenly discovered that Soul-Settling Grass and Seven-Inch Heart were missing.
"How could there be someone here? No, you are not a person at all!"
Li Rui knew that if it weren't for the Old Monster, he wouldn't have been able to enter. How did this man get in?
The fact that he was only vaguely present made Li Rui feel very displeased.
Li Rui jumped down from the treetop and looked around on the ground. Suddenly, his expression changed, and his whip shot out like a spirit snake. The leaves rustled, and as Li Rui's momentum weakened, a hazy light suddenly flickered from the direction in front of him.
"Come out!"
Li Rui lashed out again toward the direction of the light, but this time he didn't hit anything, not even that faint glimmer.
"Seven-Inch Heart! It is now in my hands!"
"Who exactly are you?" Li Rui coldly asked. "According to the rules of the martial world, if you don't take it directly, it's considered stealing. Since you are a thief, there's no need to hide. Why not come out and compete with me? If you win, I will give you the Soul-Settling Grass and Seven-Inch Heart."
As soon as Li Rui finished speaking, ripples trembled in the void, the air twisted and spread, layers of whirlpools drawing darkness into them. That hint of azure light gradually intensified until it shone like a brilliant Luminous Pearl, illuminating the area along with the moonlight.
Then, several crisp "pops" sounded from the darkness as two shadows suddenly sprang out. As they got closer, Li Rui finally saw that two men stood before him.
The two men were extremely short, resembling Dwarfs, only reaching Li Rui's waist. They wore black clothing, and even in the night, their stout outlines were clearly visible.
The sight of these two short and fat men suddenly appearing before Li Rui was indeed comical. After a moment of pause, Li Rui took a big step forward and angrily extended his hand toward the two Dwarf men.
"Was it you two? Quickly give me the Soul-Settling Grass and Seven-Inch Heart."
Two Dwarves looked comical, their features quite ordinary. In the darkness of the night, Li Rui glanced at the two of them and saw that if it weren't for their extremely low height, they would be indistinguishable from regular people.

One of the Dwarves stepped forward, raising the Seven-Inch Heart in his hand. The light in his palm flickered for a moment before gradually dimming.

Li Rui understood that these two were not human but some kind of Beast that had transformed into human form, and they had come to steal his things. It was truly infuriating.
After sizing up Li Rui, the other Dwarf said, "To snatch Soul-Settling Grass from Anlu's mouth, you must have some skills—"
"Scoundrel!" Before he could finish his sentence, Li Rui shouted angrily, drawing a short dagger and stepping forward. "Return my Seven-Inch Heart!"
Damn it! If Old Monster returned and found that these two beastly figures had stolen his belongings, he would truly be unable to clear his name even if he jumped into the Yellow River.
