Li Rui was preparing to buy some herbs. At ten o'clock in the morning, he went to a tea house for tea.
Sitting in the tea house, with a sandalwood table and pear blossom door frames, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The entire hall exuded a faint fragrance; this was a local establishment of very high standards, not just accessible to anyone with money, but one had to be wealthy, powerful, and well-known. Li Rui had reached a level of fame, and he wanted to see what kind of place it was, which led to this moment.
He deliberately chose a seat near the window, enjoying the aroma of tea while quietly observing the bustling crowd below. He couldn't help but sigh at how peaceful life could be. Aside from the necessary and unavoidable growth that came with time, Li Rui quite liked the current atmosphere. He lightly traced the rim of his cup with his fingers, feeling in good spirits.
However, every time he felt good, something unpleasant would happen. For instance, there was someone rushing towards him, dressed decently. Li Rui thought to himself about what kind of person this might be.
It wasn't that his observations were so accurate; it was just that the person's intentions were too obvious. If Li Rui couldn't sense it, he wouldn't have made it this far.
"Friend," a middle-aged man smiled at him, "may I share this table with you?"
"Please."
Watching the man order several dishes with confidence and pay the waiter, Li Rui couldn't help but chuckle. He raised his teacup to hide his growing amusement. There were plenty of empty tables in the hall; why did he choose to share a table? Did he really not notice? Li Rui found himself entertained by his own thoughts. Sometimes, self-amusement wasn't so bad.
"I am the Murong Family's Butler," the man said with a smile. "I wonder if you would be interested in joining our Murong Family?" His eyes held no arrogance or entitlement typical of powerful families; instead, there was an air of equality that surprised Li Rui. After encountering various people on his journey, he was only astonished for a second. He feared that this man might be difficult to deal with and hard to dismiss; his demeanor compelled Li Rui to think deeply.
Murong Family? Li Rui smiled on the surface while calculating internally. The Murong Family was one of the Four Great Families; their strength needed no further explanation. Since he was alone and bored anyway, besides... there was also the Grim Organization and his deep-seated enmity with them.
The butler observed Li Rui's prolonged silence and didn't assume he was overly pleased; rather, those with more power and fame tended to be more cautious. With this thought in mind, he searched his pockets and took out a jade pendant.
"This is the emblem of the Murong Family."
Li Rui took it and examined it closely; it was smooth in texture and contained a hint of True Qi within.
"How do you consider it?"
"This..." Li Rui thought for a moment and returned the jade to him. "I have some connections with the Grim Organization."
The butler raised an eyebrow.
"For example, a deep-seated blood feud." Li Rui smiled, completely devoid of any emotional turmoil, as if a mask concealed all his joys and sorrows.
Seeing him like this, the butler was greatly impressed. If the young man had such a temperament, what would happen if he were used by the Murong Family... At this thought, his glasses shifted slightly.
"Therefore, I must decline the Murong Family's kind offer," Li Rui said with an apologetic smile, his gaze sincere enough that one might think he was completely trusted and respected by the Murong Family's Butler. But who really knew what it was like?
"It's alright," the butler laughed heartily. "Once you step into the Murong Family's door, we are family. We can help you deal with your enemies, Li Rui."
"You can trust that the Murong Family absolutely has this capability."
It seemed that the other party had prepared thoroughly for this visit and was unhesitant in their promises. Li Rui stroked his chin, appearing quite pleased on the surface.
However, this made Li Rui think negatively in secret. He smiled and nodded at the other party while looking at the plate in front of him. The dishes were vibrant and appetizing, momentarily distracting him from other thoughts. But similarly, the more beautiful a flower is, the more poisonous it can be. The Murong Family, being such a prominent clan, surely did not only value his abilities as a Sixth-Rank Alchemist. After all, they were one of the Four Great Families—what did that signify? It indicated that their financial resources, material wealth, and talents surpassed all others in this region; they ranked among the top on this continent. One must ask, how could such a family lack a Sixth-Rank Alchemist? Or perhaps the Murong Family sought to gain something from him or saw something in him worth their elaborate schemes and efforts to approach him in such a roundabout way?
Li Rui thought to himself that perhaps it would be better to take a look? Their actions only piqued his curiosity further.
"Then from now on, let's keep chatting."
"Of course," the butler replied with a mysterious smile that hinted at secrets unknown.
“Pleasant Cooperation” They both raised their teacups and signaled to each other, but what they truly thought in their hearts, only they themselves knew. At this moment, one could only use the phrase "the heart of a person is hidden deep" to describe the situation.
The crowd outside was unaware of this scene, continuing to live their own lives, bustling about from sunrise to sunset. Sometimes, it seemed quite carefree.
“Well, I’ll take my leave now.” The butler stood up and cupped his hands in a gesture of respect. “I won’t disturb your time any longer.”
“Take care.” Li Rui remained seated, only raising a hand to gesture slightly. The butler didn’t mind and hurriedly conveyed this message to his superiors.
Eating? Sharing a table? With the dishes not yet served, he hurriedly left; it didn’t seem like he was there to eat at the Restaurant. Li Rui smiled with amusement, shaking his head as if recalling something.
“Sir,” the waiter holding the dishes asked cautiously while standing beside him, “what do you think about this…” The meal was ready, but upon turning around, he found that the amiable guest had vanished, leaving behind someone who looked good but might have a bad temper. The waiter dared not be careless; first, this was his first time here and he couldn’t afford to offend anyone, and second, the dark aura surrounding this gentleman was somewhat intimidating.
The few dishes felt like they were associated with this Hero, perhaps a friend, which prompted the waiter to ask this question.
“Just leave it.” Li Rui was easygoing; since the dishes were ordered, they might as well be eaten since someone else was paying for them.
As the slanting rays of the setting sun cast their glow on the earth, people on the street began to trickle home. Li Rui had been sitting in this Restaurant for almost an entire afternoon without any intention of leaving. He furrowed his brow tightly, his mind racing with various possibilities as he pondered over what the butler had said.
