The atmosphere was eerie and unsettling. Li Rui was quite astonished to encounter people here; it was incredibly exciting, but the unfamiliar voices were decidedly unwelcoming.
"What is making such a racket here!" The sound nearly shattered Li Rui's eardrums, causing his heart to tighten.
Immediately, the person's attack came, and a beam of light shot out from somewhere in the sky!
Li Rui's body jolted, and he hurriedly jumped to a concealed spot. Then he leaped down from a tree stump, constantly alert to his surroundings. Although the villain's initial attack had failed, they might not give up easily. Following him would surely tire them out; if he insisted on going deeper, he would definitely force them to reveal themselves.
In the distance, wisps of black smoke caught Li Rui's attention. A flash of insight crossed his mind as he thought something was amiss. If it were a normal fire burning some grass or trees, there would be white smoke rising; why was there black smoke billowing up now?
Just as Li Rui was filled with doubt, a deafening explosion rang out, and several Fire Phoenixes several meters long suddenly appeared in the sky. Their golden wings blocked out the sun. Li Rui looked down at the ground beneath him, which alternated between bright and dark, and he couldn't help but feel anxious. Was there such a fierce bird in Fengyun Valley? He couldn't help but be amazed.
Without thinking much more, Li Rui stepped forward, and several shadows immediately sprang out.
"Hmph, brat, don't think you can escape my grasp." One of the White-Robed Men sneered coldly, his face full of disdain as he fidgeted with something in his sleeve...
"Why do you want to kill me? If one attempt fails, you come again?" Li Rui scoffed, the breeze lifting the willow branches brushing against his red lips as he prepared for battle.
"Why waste so many words with this kid? What are you so arrogant about? We don't need to fight you to take your life; do you see those Fire Phoenixes? They will handle everything for us." These men pointed at the flying creatures circling above, smugly stroking their beards.
"Just beasts," Li Rui said dismissively. He then kicked off a rock and leaped into the air. He heard a flash from what they were holding; those Fire Phoenixes immediately glowed with fiery light and surged with anger.
They then unleashed a torrent of flames like a volcanic eruption, magma surging forth. The air around them rippled with immense energy.
Seeing this, Li Rui swiftly dodged the Fire Phoenix's attack. After all, he still didn't know if he could withstand these fierce birds; if he were hit, not only would he fail to save his beloved, but he might also lose his own life.
With a screech, the Fire Phoenix continuously shot out pillars of fire at Li Rui, but each attack was dodged. The flames shot towards a vast forest behind him, and Li Rui suddenly felt a wave of heat; the Primeval Forest had already caught fire.
Li Rui was unaware of how these Fire Phoenixes were following their commands; there must be a mastermind behind it all, otherwise, how could such powerful beasts exist?
Li Rui then flew under the burning trees and swung down hard, chopping a large tree in half. This was a Deadwood, not too heavy, and Li Rui lifted the tree, with flames splashing all around.
At this moment, the battle had extended to an open area in the Mountain Range. A massive cave appeared before Li Rui, and without thinking much, he jumped right in.
Li Rui wielded the large tree to fight against the Fire Phoenix. The flaming tree charged at the Fire Phoenix, which was akin to hitting himself. The Fire Phoenix also unleashed a burst of flames with great force. Li Rui used his Phoenix Wing to dodge and blocked with the tree. Not only did the tree remain intact, but the flames grew fiercer as they surged toward the Fire Phoenix. The Fire Phoenix took a heavy blow, engulfed in flames, soaring in the air while letting out a tragic scream.
"This isn't my fault; you brought this upon yourself. I didn't force you."
Li Rui feigned innocence. The people below gasped in shock; these Fire Phoenixes were considered invincible beings. Now they were injured, unable to believe what they were witnessing.
This was something Li Rui had anticipated long ago. The reason he didn't rush in first was to use the Fire Phoenix's flames against them.
At this moment, Li Rui dashed into the cave recklessly, while the Fire Phoenix, blinded by rage, charged in after him. Although the entrance was narrow, it could still accommodate one at a time. The cave entrance was eerily quiet now, with an atmosphere of death surrounding it. Jagged rocks and cliffs evoked a sense of despair. There were also remains of monstrous creatures nearby, emitting a pungent stench.
The entire cave entrance felt mysteriously ominous.
Li Rui charged through without encountering any obstruction from the Fire Phoenix; it was surprisingly quiet. Due to the winding paths inside the cave, there were some obstacles, so Li Rui did not use his Phoenix Wing but instead proceeded along the steep path.
"What happened to these monsters? Why isn't anyone coming out? Is it a trap? Are they lying in ambush for a surprise attack?" Li Rui thought to himself, breaking into a cold sweat as he prepared for defense.
With doubts in mind, Li Rui reached the bottom of the cave where the path suddenly opened up; it was bright and spacious with neatly aligned doorways resembling residential quarters.
Now Li Rui realized that this cave seemed to be the nest of the Fire Phoenixes; they had been living here all along. He wondered which powerful figure controlled them; those wicked individuals likely possessed Spiritual Artifacts capable of commanding these Fire Phoenixes.
"These beasts really know how to enjoy themselves. I originally thought it would be a messy den, but it turns out to be so well-organized," Li Rui muttered to himself while observing.
Li Rui did not hesitate at the entrance and walked directly toward the largest one, determined to deal with them, unafraid of this terrifying and eerie place.
Li Rui cautiously stepped inside and saw that most of the Fire Phoenixes were sleeping, snoring loudly, while others were eating, completely unaware of Li Rui's intrusion.
At that moment, an entrance sealed with iron chains caught Li Rui's attention. Looking up, he noticed that there seemed to be iron bars crisscrossing inside, resembling a prison cell.
To avoid waking those creatures and drawing attention, Li Rui lightly waved his fingers and used a bit of True Qi to emit a light like a fine silver needle. He infused the True Qi into the chains, and the light surged onto the chains, which immediately began to tremble. With a "crack," the chains broke.
Once inside, Li Rui saw a door secured with chains and locks. There were many prison doors inside, and faint sounds could be heard from within, prompting Li Rui to think.
After infusing True Qi into the silver needle-like light once more, the lock was opened again. Li Rui rushed in and discovered that many young beasts were locked inside, including Armored Rhinoceroses, Phoenix Eagles, Triangle Antelopes, and Two-Headed Giant Lions.
Li Rui was dazzled by what he saw; he had never encountered such rare and exotic young beasts before. He realized that these would surely become powerful leaders among beasts in the future.
