For several consecutive days, Shangguan Shaoyi remained close to Cheng Mosu, sleeping at the desk whenever he felt tired until Cheng Mosu's health slightly improved, at which point he returned to his own room. 0

The scent of books filled the air, and as the morning light began to peek through, Cheng Mosu woke up. After so many days of sleep, she felt more energetic than usual. She opened the window a crack, and the spring breeze gently flowed in. Unlike the warm southern spring winds, the northern breeze still carried a hint of chill. 0

"Why did you open the window?" Shangguan Shaoyi appeared behind her without her noticing, his brows furrowed as he reached out to close it. 0

Cheng Mosu wore an amused expression. "Shaoyi, I only opened it a tiny bit; it's not a problem." 0

"That won't do." His expression was a firm kind of tenderness as he picked her up and carried her back to bed, gently covering her with a soft pink floral silk quilt. "You need to rest properly. You're not allowed to run around until you're fully recovered, understand?" 0

His tone left no room for argument, yet she suddenly felt a warmth rise within her and playfully broke the silence with a clear voice, "You're really overbearing." He raised an eyebrow, appearing calm and composed. Cheng Mosu's lips curled into a smile. "If I stay like this, I might get sick from boredom." 0

Hearing the word "sick," he tensed up. Noticing the playful glint in her bright eyes, he sighed and gazed at her with affectionate concern. "You... never mind. I'll ask the doctor. If he says you can move around, I'll take you out for a walk. If he says you need to stay in bed..." He straightened his expression, his tone firm and steady. "Then you need to stay put; you can't even get out of bed. Do you hear me?" 0

"Can't even get out of bed? What if I want to eat..." 0

"I'll bring it to you." 0

"What if I want to drink water..." 0

"I'll fetch it for you." 0

"What if I want to read..." 0

"I'll read it to you." 0

The two of them exchanged words, their tone calm but the atmosphere eager. She found it hard to resist him and turned her head to the side. He smiled, glanced at the quiet light in her eyes like a serene pool, and gently closed the door. Cheng Mo listened intently to his conversation with the German doctor. When she heard the doctor say that she was almost well enough to move around appropriately, the smile on her face deepened, resembling a child who had just received a beloved toy. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi entered, seeing her smiling brightly at him. He paused for a moment, walked over, and took her hand, appearing both helpless and indulgent. "Look at how happy you are. Let's go; I'll take you around." 0

Cheng Mo nodded, linking her arm with Shangguan Shaoyi's. He felt the warmth of her hand resting against his arm, which warmed his heart as well. Supporting Cheng Mo, they made their way to the balcony. Although it was early spring, the flowers on the balcony were still withered, showing no signs of blooming. The entire balcony appeared somewhat out of place in its desolation. 0

Seeing her gaze fixed on a few flowers, Shangguan Shaoyi took a cushion and placed it on the pure white chair before saying, "The north is different from the south; it's not yet flower season at this time. After a while, the flowers will bloom. When that happens, I'll take you to see them." Cheng Mo's heart sank; after all, she would have to return to Shanghai eventually. Counting the days, her father should be back in the country soon. Once he returned, he would likely write to ask her to come home right away; she would miss the blooming season. 0

"Mo Su? What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Shangguan Shaoyi asked with concern. 0

Cheng Mo came back to herself and shook her head. "I'm fine; just thinking about some things." Seeing him looking at her with questioning eyes, Cheng Mo smiled again. "It's nothing serious; I've just been daydreaming a lot lately. By the way, Shaoyi, I saw a chessboard in that cabinet earlier. Let's play chess; I lost terribly last time." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi paused for a moment before laughing. "Last time you left halfway through; how could you have lost terribly?" Cheng Mo then remembered that during that game, she had grown suspicious of Shaoyi's identity and hurriedly asked others without finishing the game. Her face flushed red, and she fell silent as she saw Shaoyi set down the chessboard and pick up a piece. 0

They had not been playing for long when Shen Mingliang came over. Seeing them engrossed in their game, he found himself unsure whether to advance or retreat. Cheng Mo noticed him standing there hesitantly and smiled as she nodded. "Deputy Officer Shen is here." 0

Shen Mingliang then approached and stood before Shangguan Shaoyi, saluting him. "Young Marshal!" 0

"What is it?" Shangguan Shaoyi asked as he set down his black piece. 0

"I'm here to take you to review the troops." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi looked at his pocket watch and realized it was already so late; the time spent with Cheng MoSu had passed so quickly. He stood up and looked at Cheng MoSu, but before he could say anything, Cheng MoSu spoke first: "If you have something to do, go ahead. I'll sit here for a while longer and head back to my room later." He frowned, wanting to say more, but Cheng MoSu wore a light smile on his face. "Go on, I'm not a child; I can take care of myself." After thinking for a moment, he nodded and instructed the maidservants accompanying him a few times before heading out with Shen Mingliang. 0

The military vehicle drove down the center of the road, with melted snowwater creating deep and shallow potholes. Suddenly, a purple-red figure darted out from somewhere. Even someone as quick as Shen Mingliang didn't notice it in time, and the speeding vehicle was about to hit that figure. In a critical moment, Shangguan Shaoyi swiftly snatched the steering wheel from Shen Mingliang's hands and slammed on the brakes, bringing the military vehicle to a sudden stop with a deafening screech. 0

"I... I hope I didn't hit anyone," Shen Mingliang said in a panic as he hurriedly got out to check. The woman in the purple-red Qipao had her thigh exposed, wearing a captivating smile that was mesmerizing. Although Shen Mingliang was a rough man, he was momentarily flustered by such a beautiful woman and didn't know what to say. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi got out of the car and coldly observed everything. His gaze flickered as he asked, "Miss, are you alright?" 0

The woman in the purple-red Qipao stood up, her crimson lips slightly curling up as she twirled her hair around her fingers in an alluring manner. Since Lin Hongyao's death, she had been looking for opportunities to get close to Shangguan Shaoyi. She had planned this incident for a long time and finally got her wish today. "I think I twisted my ankle. If you don't mind, could you give me a ride home?" 0

Feeling guilty already, Shen Mingliang found it hard to refuse such a gentle request. He glanced at Shangguan Shaoyi, who smiled faintly with cold light in his eyes. He gestured for a rickshaw to stop and said, "I'm sorry, but we have matters to attend to; please take the rickshaw back by yourself." He slipped some cash into the rickshaw driver's hand without even looking at the woman and said firmly, "Shen Mingliang, continue driving." 0

The Young Marshal only called him by his full name when he was angry. Shen Mingliang quickly pulled himself together and dared not think about anything else as he pressed the accelerator and sped off again. 0

Hmph, unaffected, are you? The woman brushed off the snow from her clothes; her purple-red Qipao was stained with noticeable marks but still couldn't hide her beauty. However, the smile at the corners of her mouth grew increasingly cruel yet enchanting. 0

Shangguan Lin... One day, I will make you fall into my hands. 0
