Her voice was charmingly lazy. "I heard from the staff that Xiangshui Tower has been booked today. I was wondering which wealthy patron it was, but it turns out to be you, sir."
Shangguan Shaoyi did not look at her directly and coldly replied, "Since you know this place has been booked by me, you should find somewhere else."
"Sir, you are mistaken." Her eyes narrowed slightly, lazy yet alluring. "This Xiangshui Tower is owned by me. Where else would I go?"
Shangguan Shaoyi paused, looking at her coldly, his gaze icy enough to freeze someone. "In that case, you should understand the rules. Since I have booked this place, as the owner, you cannot interfere here. If you refuse to leave now, we may have to change locations."
The more indifferent he became, the more interesting she found it. A cruel and beautiful smile appeared on her face. "Don't worry, sir; I still want to do business. However..." Her fair hand adorned with a large diamond ring rested casually on his shoulder, lightly stroking it. "However, I haven't thanked you for saving my life last time. If it weren't for your timely braking, I might not be able to talk to you here now."
"No need to thank me." Shangguan Shaoyi stood up, causing her hand to be naturally pushed aside by his movement. His gaze was like a deep pool, unfathomable. Even she, who could command men effortlessly, could not decipher him. "Please leave immediately; do not disturb our gathering. Otherwise, I cannot guarantee I will brake in time next time."
Yun Yun's face still wore an unchanging charming smile, but the chill in her heart grew stronger. "Alright then, I won't disturb you any longer." She glanced sideways at Shangguan Shaoyi's companion Shen Mingliang and saw him staring at her in a daze. She flashed a flirtatious smile and swayed away.
Xiangshui Tower was soon filled again with the sounds of clinking glasses as if the earlier incident had never happened.
"Young Master," Shen Mingliang pondered for a moment before asking, "That woman... we really seem to have some fate with her."
Shangguan Shaoyi swallowed a glass of wine and replied sharply, "What is coincidental must have its reasons."
"You mean..." Shen Mingliang perked up immediately. "That woman is trying to get close to us?"
Shangguan Shaoyi's eyes were cold and his mind clear. "Just wait; there will be a third time and a fourth time."
"But what is her purpose?" Shen Mingliang was puzzled. Shangguan Shaoyi merely smiled coldly and did not respond further; half of the wine in his glass was already gone.
All these changes were unknown to Cheng Mo, Su He, and Shangguan Yiting in Shangguan Residence.
Shangguan Yiting is well aware of Shangguan Shaoyi's feelings for Cheng Mo, and she thinks that marrying into the Cheng Family, which has a prestigious background, seems more advantageous than marrying into the Rong Family. This thought prompts her to get closer to Cheng Mo.
Today, Shangguan Yiting has specifically arranged a card game at home to formally introduce Cheng Mo to the ladies of Feng Province. Although Cheng Mo initially hesitated, she found herself alone in her room, unable to stop her wandering thoughts, so she agreed to Shangguan Yiting's suggestion.
"Mo Su, I’ve noticed that your clothes are too plain. The ladies here in Feng Province are used to wearing bright colors. You should get a few colorful outfits; otherwise, it might be too late to prepare when the time comes," Shangguan Yiting teased as she looked through Cheng Mo's wardrobe.
Cheng Mo felt a slight blush on her face and her eyes shimmered, "Sister, you’re joking. Shaoyi and I are not at that stage yet."
"That’s only a matter of time," Shangguan Yiting smiled as she took her hand. "This is the first time he has cared so much for a girl, and I've already explained to you that he doesn’t have a formal engagement with Yu Qiao."
"Sister..." Cheng Mo interrupted her at the right moment. "Putting aside whether they have an engagement or not, Shaoyi hasn’t proposed marriage to me. Besides, such important matters should be decided by my father." She lowered her eyes, making it hard to gauge her feelings from her expression, but every word was a rejection. Shangguan Yiting understood this clearly.
"Our Shangguan Family is also well-known in the north, and his affection for you is not trivial. I believe your father will agree. I’m just waiting for your sixteenth birthday to welcome you in," Shangguan Yiting seemed to remember something. "Oh, by the way, Mo Su, what kind of bedding do you prefer? Silk or cotton? I need to order it soon; time waits for no one."
"Sister..." She sighed helplessly; how could something that hasn’t even begun sound like it was going to happen tomorrow in Shangguan Yiting's words? She replied calmly, "There’s really no need. Once this period passes, I’ll go home, and whatever happens afterward will be left to fate."
Shangguan Yiting frowned slightly. "What do you mean by leaving it to fate? Fate is something you have to fight for." She held Cheng Mo's hand and looked into her bright eyes. "Mo Su, I see you as someone who understands things well; how can you not see this? You like my brother, and he likes you. What could be more beautiful than love? If you keep acting indifferent towards him, any passionate feelings will fade away."
Her words struck a chord with Cheng Mo. After pondering for a moment, she raised her eyes and asked, "Then what do you think I should do? The matter with Miss Rong feels like a knot in my heart; it’s uncomfortable and unresolved."
Shangguan Yiting smiled. "It’s simple; their engagement is just verbal and doesn’t hold any weight. When will your father return? I can propose on your behalf; once that’s settled, both of you will feel at ease."
Cheng Mo remembered her father saying he would return in six months at the earliest or up to a year at most. Calculating the time, it was almost six months now. "If he returns soon, it might be very soon. But with my relationship with Shaoyi being so tense right now, there’s really no way..." Her voice grew softer as her blush deepened, resembling a fairy from a painting.
"You silly girl, you're overthinking it," Shangguan Yiting patted her delicate hand and smiled. "My brother is good at doing things but not at expressing himself. He cares deeply for you; everything will work out fine. All you need to do now is stay here obediently."
Cheng Mo was about to respond when Shangguan Shaoyi unexpectedly stood behind them. Shangguan Yiting glanced at him and chuckled, prompting Cheng Mo to look up as well. She met Shangguan Shaoyi's dark, gentle gaze and couldn't help but smile softly. However, recalling their recent quarrel, she turned her small head away.
Shangguan Yiting shifted her gaze between the two, saying, "You two can talk; I won't interrupt."
"Okay." He smiled lightly. Once Shangguan Yiting had walked away, he took Cheng Mo's small hand. "Tomorrow is the grand opening of Uncle Rong's new Dongsheng Department Store. He insists I go; will you come with me?"
"I won't go. Miss Rong will definitely be there, and who knows what might happen."
"Mo Su." He said in a low voice, "These things have to be faced. How long do you plan to avoid them?" She paused, looking into his dark eyes, unable to respond. After a long moment, she finally heard him sigh, "I will always be by your side; you don't need to be afraid."
"Let me think about it." She couldn't ignore his intense gaze, but the thought of Rong Yuqiao's various tactics made her feel uneasy.
Shangguan Shaoyi didn't press her further and wished her goodnight before leaving her room and gently closing the door. Someone came to report that the invitation had been delivered.
He went down the stairs and hadn't taken many steps when his gaze turned colder, fixating on a seductive woman in front of him.
Yun Yun loosened her grip on the bag she was holding. A hint of coldness flashed in her alluring eyes but disappeared almost instantly. She smirked, her crimson lips curving just right, captivating him. "Sir, we meet again. I'm here to deliver the invitation for tomorrow's opening."
From her bag emerged a creamy-white cat with one blue eye and one green eye, glaring fiercely at him. Its lazy meow shattered the silence.
