Shangguan Residence The silence was terrifying. Shangguan Yiting slightly pushed open the large door of Shangguan Shaoyi's room and quietly peeked in. She saw him painting, the westward sun casting shadows on his chiseled features, adding a faint halo around him. His lips were tightly pressed into a line, and his brows held a cold determination that made it impossible to gauge his emotions.
He did not lift his eyelids, his voice deepening as he said, "What are you doing standing outside? Come in."
Shangguan Yiting was taken aback for a moment, the corners of her lips lifting as she entered, "As expected of the esteemed young commander, even the slightest movement can draw your attention."
Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow but did not respond.
Shangguan Yiting looked at him curiously. Since visiting Cheng Mo, he had spoken much less, and his smiles had gradually faded. Once, when she suggested visiting Mo Su, he flatly refused. What had happened between him and Mo Su? She could not ask, and he had no reason to mention it.
She gazed at his new painting, secretly admiring the exquisite skill; they were born of the same mother yet were remarkably distant.
"What are you staring at me for?" Shangguan Shaoyi finally lifted his gaze.
"Nothing, just wanted to..." She looked into his cool eyes but still couldn't bring herself to ask. Sighing, she said, "Forget it, you should rest well."
"Sister." He suddenly called out to her. She turned back to see a complex emotion reflected in his cold Eyes.
"What is it?"
"This question should be asked by me: do you think I've become colder than before?" He asked with a forced smile, long and strong fingers playing with a bright red lighter, his gaze elusive.
Shangguan Yiting's heart sank; her intuition told her something was wrong with him, likely related to her suspicions. After a moment of silence, she finally asked, "What’s wrong with you? You haven’t been handling military affairs lately or visiting Mo Su; you’re just holed up in your room painting. Are you trying to be one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove?"
Shangguan Shaoyi chuckled lightly, his Eyes filled with a chilling aura. "I’m not that carefree." He looked up at the now tranquil sky and the emerging bright moon, the corners of his lips lifting into a bland smile. "Never mind; thinking about these things is pointless. I’ll step out for a bit; you can have dinner by yourself."
"Hey!" Shangguan Yiting called out anxiously, "There are some things I suddenly want to talk to you about."
Shangguan Shaoyi looked at her, appearing to listen attentively. Shangguan Yiting smiled thoughtfully and said, "Just now, I don't know why, but it suddenly reminded me of something you said before."
"Oh?"
"You, when you were little, didn't have many opportunities to interact with girls. The only two people of the opposite sex around you were me and Yu Qiao. My personality goes without saying; I'm articulate and a bit boyish. As for Yu Qiao, she's just a spoiled rich girl. You got used to seeing us both and said we had no femininity, even claiming that no man would dare to want me in the future."
Shangguan Shaoyi frowned slightly and laughed, "Really? I don't remember saying such harsh things when I was young."
"Stop pretending to be clueless." Shangguan Yiting laughed along, though there was a hint of sadness hidden behind it, making the air feel a bit chilly. "But you were wrong; someone really did like me and treated me well. But as you know, he is no longer here."
Shangguan Shaoyi fell silent, his pitch-black eyes imprinting his sister's helpless expression deep in his heart.
"He is gone..." Shangguan Yiting murmured softly, placing her hands on the Willow Table, her Fingertips lightly tracing the surface, one line after another. The coldness of her Fingertips warmed up from the friction, stirring her emotions into restlessness.
She closed her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them again, the sadness was gone, replaced by a fierce determination. Shangguan Shaoyi couldn't help but smile slightly; he had to admit that at certain moments, his sister resembled him remarkably.
"We were married for three years. He was on a plane with my father when that scoundrel Lin Hongyao blew it up. From that moment on, I vowed that one day I would take revenge on Lin Hongyao. However, you have already helped me fulfill that wish. Now I just want to find Lin Hongyao and the intermediary in Japan and tear her apart!"
A fierce look passed through her eyes. "Don't worry; I've already found out that the intermediary is a Japanese woman named Yun Yun. Sooner or later, I will catch her."
"And what about the person who provided arms to Lin Hongyao? What do you plan to do with them?" Those preparatory words finally formed a bridge leading to the essence of the problem that had been troubling him these past few days.
His expression turned extremely cold as he said in a deep voice, "Who told you we found out who provided the arms?"
Shangguan Yiting snorted coldly. "You haven't been handling military affairs these past few days, so Shen Deputy Officer could only report to me. That guy can't keep his mouth shut; he rambled on for quite a while but ultimately didn't tell me who provided the arms. He even said he wouldn't say anything even if I killed him." Shangguan Yiting smiled coldly. "So tell me, who is that person?"
Shangguan Shaoyi looked at her without revealing any emotion. She met his gaze with the same intensity, but the bright light in his eyes made her lose ground in their stare-down.
He slowly shifted his gaze away, his eyes deep and distant. "You don't need to know these things. Just focus on being Miss Shangguan and enjoy your daily life with the ladies of Feng Province."
"I can guess seven or eight parts of it even without you saying anything." Shangguan Yiting sneered, "You've been acting strangely these past few days, even neglecting to visit Mo Su. Should I connect these two matters?"
Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow, casually picking up the teapot from the table and gently pouring tea into the cup, drinking it all in one go without savoring its flavor.
"This is just my speculation. Whether it's true or not is not my concern. You are still in charge of the Shangguan Family, but I want to remind you that this person supplying arms has harmed not only our father but also my husband and son. I absolutely cannot allow him to live in this world." Shangguan Yiting's voice grew colder, her gaze increasingly fierce. "If you truly mishandle this, I will take care of it for you."
Her words were sharp and decisive, no less fierce than Shangguan Shaoyi.
Shangguan Shaoyi smiled coldly, casually putting on his military cap and stepping outside.
"Where are you going?" came Shangguan Yiting's voice from behind.
"I'm going to handle these matters so you don't overstep your bounds." His cold voice echoed in the air, creating a chilling atmosphere.
"Wait." Shangguan Yiting called out to him, reaching out to pour him a cup of tea, the fragrant aroma enveloping him. "Drink this before you go; I personally made it for you. Remember what I said today."
Shangguan Shaoyi smiled lightly, his gaze lingering on her.
