Shangguan Shaoyi had not rested well these past few days. The command center was unbearably cold in winter and scorching hot in summer, making it difficult to stay. 0

He adjusted his military uniform, and a cold, hard voice followed, "This time we eliminated Yun Yun, but we were unable to capture the forces behind her. However, it can be imagined that Japan will take advantage of this." He paused, his gaze icy, "But I have always maintained a tough stance against them; I want to see what other tricks they have up their sleeves!" 0

"Yes, Young Marshal," Shen Mingliang replied. He then brought up another matter, "Miss Shangguan asked you to return home for a while; you need to..." 0

"Alright." He uttered a single word and walked towards the door but stopped as he was about to step into the car. 0

Suddenly, heavy rain began to pour down in Feng Province, engulfing his heart in an instant and soaking him completely. His pitch-black Eyes sparkled like stars, and his heart raced erratically. He lowered his gaze; the self-reproach surged back into his mind, forming a painful sense of alienation. 0

He adjusted his military cap and brushed off the raincoat Shen Mingliang was trying to drape over him. Watching the crowd running in the rain and listening to the sound of raindrops hitting the ground, he finally said, "You go call my sister and tell her I will return in a few days." 0

Shen Deputy Officer received the order, knowing that Shangguan Shaoyi was reluctant to go back because he didn't know how to face Cheng Mo. However, he couldn't say much and could only withdraw. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi could not afford to relax even slightly. Although his gaze was firm, it seemed somewhat dazed as it fixed on a certain direction—one that held the person he missed and his precious spiritual support in this chaotic world. He collected his thoughts and turned back to the command center, a hint of melancholy surfacing in his cold, deep eyes. 0

"Younger Marshal, it's time for a meal. Should we eat here or go out?" 0

"Just bring it in," Shangguan Shaoyi replied coldly, his eyes directed at the transparent glass. His face remained clear and handsome but still exuded an undeniable chill. Looking up at the endless sky above him felt like staring into a vast whirlpool that threatened to pull him in, leaving him dizzy and disoriented. 0

Shen Mingliang frowned slightly as he set down the food, not daring to say much while standing at the door. 0

"Shen Deputy Officer." A female voice rang out, crisp like a lark. He turned around and looked at the familiar yet nameless face before him, asking blankly, "Who are you...?" 0

"I am Xiao Jing, a maid from the Shangguan Residence," she replied gracefully. "There is something I need to trouble Deputy Officer Shen to convey. Miss Cheng has fallen ill, and the doctor said it is due to excessive worry. We all know what she is worried about and who she is thinking of, so please inform the young master to return home as soon as he has the time." 0

Shen Mingliang was taken aback, not surprised that Cheng Mo Su had fallen ill, but rather astonished by how appropriately this maid named Xiao Jing spoke. He nodded absentmindedly, though he was reluctant to agree. Once Xiao Jing walked away, the young commander had finished his meal and was rubbing his temples, preparing to hold the upcoming military meeting to discuss various military issues. 0

He glanced at Shen Mingliang and asked in a calm voice, "Who just came by? Was there something important?" 0

"Nothing," Shen Mingliang replied without thinking. He understood Cheng Mo Su's significance in the young commander's heart; if the young commander knew she was ill, the military meeting would likely be held with distracted minds. Considering this, it was better not to mention it. After all, it was just excessive worry, and with some time to recuperate, she would be fine. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi nodded and turned to enter the meeting room. The sunlight breaking through after a heavy rain cast long shadows on him as it streamed through the window. 0

"Miss Cheng, it's time for your medicine," Xiao Jing said as she brought over a porcelain bowl and held it to Cheng Mo Su's lips. The medicine had a strong taste that churned her stomach and made her feel quite uncomfortable. Seeing this, Xiao Jing quickly set the bowl aside and asked softly, "Miss Cheng, is there anywhere else you feel unwell?" 0

"I'm fine," Cheng Mo Su shook her head, forcing a slight smile. "It's just that the medicine tastes too strong; it makes me feel a bit nauseous." 0

"As the saying goes, good medicine tastes bitter. Miss Cheng, just bear with it; close your eyes and drink it down quickly, and it will be over before you know it." Xiao Jing adjusted her backrest and held the bowl in one hand while bringing a spoon closer to Cheng Mo Su's lips. 0

Cheng Mo Su pinched the edge of her blanket and smiled gently but quietly turned her head away. "I don't want to drink it right now; just leave it here for now, and I'll drink it myself later." Xiao Jing wanted to say something more but ultimately held her tongue. She nodded in response and quietly exited, closing the door behind her. 0

Cheng Mo Su felt a severe headache and slowly lay down. She intended to close her eyes for a short nap but overheard several maids talking outside the door. 0

"Hey, the young master hasn't been home for several days now. I really feel sorry for Miss Cheng; she's sick and has no one to take care of her. Not only does the young lady ignore her, but even the young master doesn't care." 0

"Hush! What are you saying? It would be bad if someone heard you." Although they were trying to advise caution, their voices were inexplicably excited. "Just think about how well the young master treated her back then; when she had a fever, he couldn't even focus on fighting properly and took only three days to deal with Lin Hongyao. But now, with the young master in Feng Province, he could come home every day but has chosen not to—it's quite amusing." 0

"You still say I'm gossiping? I think your mouth is the worst. But you look so good; maybe you'll be taken in by the Young Master," one of them giggled. The two of them laughed together, while Cheng Mosu lay quietly in the room, her face devoid of expression, though her eyes were slightly red. 0

"What are you two talking about?" Xiao Jing scolded sharply. "We all see the Young Master's feelings for Miss Cheng; how dare you speak so recklessly here! And to talk nonsense at Miss Cheng's door, you must be tired of living!" Xiao Jing had served in Shangguan Residence for many years and held considerable authority among the maids. "And you, just look at yourself! Dreaming about being taken in by the Young Master? We maids should know our place, understand?" 0

The two young maids dared not say more and quickly left, holding hands. 0

Xiao Jing hurriedly pushed the door open, fearing that Cheng Mosu might have heard their words. Inside, Cheng Mosu lay with her eyes closed, breathing evenly as if she were asleep. The bowl containing the medicinal liquid was already empty, which eased her heart a little; it seemed that Cheng Mosu was sleeping soundly and had not heard the gossip. She closed the door and quietly left. 0

The moment the door shut, however, Cheng Mosu slowly opened her eyes. A tear as big as a bean fell silently, and then more tears followed one after another. She appeared dazed, her heart aching unbearably while her exterior maintained a facade of calmness. 0

Outside the window, the rain began to fall again. 0
