Shangguan Yiting sipped her coffee, lost in thought as she gazed ahead. 0

"Miss," Xiao Jing hurriedly handed over a newspaper. "When I went out today, I heard the common people discussing something about the south, and I found it strange. After asking around, I realized something big has happened! I rushed to buy a newspaper for you to see!" 0

"What could possibly happen?" She downplayed it with her words, but her heart was racing. 0

Her eyes fell upon a line of text that read: 0

"Northeast is willing to submit to the Southern Government and will change its banner on an appointed day." 0

"What is going on!" Shangguan Yiting clenched the newspaper tightly in her hand, her face pale. 0

Footsteps echoed from outside, strong and decisive. She immediately recognized who had returned and rushed to meet him, grabbing Shangguan Shaoyi by the collar and demanding, "What is going on? How could you submit to the Southern Government! Where does that leave our Shangguan Family's reputation?" 0

"Sister, let me explain..." Shangguan Shaoyi said helplessly. 0

"You don't need to explain; I understand everything!" Shangguan Yiting glared at him. "You must have made some deal with Jiang Shaohao. Is it that if you submit, he won't let you marry? You would do such a thing for a woman? How can our Shangguan Family be subservient! Shangguan Lin, you have disappointed me greatly." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow, the corners of his lips lifting. "Sister, are you done scolding? Can I speak now?" 0

"Go ahead; let's see what excuse you can come up with." 0

"Japan is trying to get me to declare independence in the Northeast. Our internal situation is also dire; in front of us is the Southern Government's attack, and behind us are the discontented people. At this moment, we must choose a side between the south and Japan. If it were you, which side would you choose?" he said calmly. 0

Shangguan Yiting was taken aback, her loose hair covering her beautiful face. She lifted her head; outside the window was a clear sky, but unfortunately, this place no longer belonged to their Shangguan Family. 0

She smiled, her eyes shining brightly. "Xiao Lin, well done! Our submission to others is only temporary. I don't believe we can't defeat Jiang Shaohao! If we have to exchange our independence for status, we absolutely cannot do that. In the face of national righteousness, what do other matters count for!" 0

"Indeed. The other day I met with the Japanese, and they were quite aggressive. Yesterday I had a meeting with Jiang Shaohao, and everything has been settled. I have accepted his appointment as the Commander of the Northeast Frontier. The flag-changing ceremony will be held at the end of the year, and we still have half a year to conduct detailed discussions and preparations," Shangguan Shaoyi said slowly. 0

Shangguan Yiting sighed and said helplessly, "In that case, we will soon have to part ways with the Southern Government. Xiao Lin, are you really willing?" 0

Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow, noncommittal. He spoke again, mentioning another topic, "What about Moxu? I haven't been home for a few days; I don't know how she has been. After all, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise; the people have forgotten that silly poem. Jiang Shaohao's daughter Jiang Yating has married off to the Northwest, so the obstacles between Moxu and me should be cleared." 0

Shangguan Yiting was taken aback; how should she tell him the fact that Moxu had already left? 0

"Jie, where is Moxu?" Shangguan Shaoyi had already guessed seven or eight points from Shangguan Yiting's expression and felt a chill seep through his pores, chilling his heart. 0

"Moxu... has gone home." After thinking for a long time, she finally squeezed out a few words. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi no longer paid attention to her; his expression showed deep disappointment in her. 0

She hurriedly grabbed him as he strode towards the door, anxiously saying, "I didn't know it would turn out like this! I saw that there was much discontent among the people; you were going to confront the Southern Government ahead, so I had to let Moxu leave first to calm public grievances. This way you could fight at the front with peace of mind. Who knew that such a thing would happen overnight? If I had known this would happen, how could I have advised Moxu to consider the bigger picture and leave you?" 0

"I understand now, but right now I don't want to hear you say these things; I just want to hurry to Shanghai and bring Moxu back!" 0

"But Moxu might not even be at home! She did buy a ticket back to Shanghai, but her father has severed ties with her. She's strong-willed; how could she possibly return home in such a dejected manner? She didn't say anything before leaving; she must have already made up her mind to cut ties with you completely. How could you easily find her?" 0

Shangguan Shaoyi clenched his fists tightly; it seemed that her warmth still lingered in his palms. He could only resent himself for not probing deeper when he sensed something was off that day. 0

He returned to his room; on the bed lay a few strands of her hair scattered about. On the rosewood table were several unfinished paintings she had left behind. In the small wardrobe were her favorite plain Qipaos, and on the rocking chair were several poetry collections she read daily. 0

Things remain the same, but people have changed. 0

Her gentle smile still lingers in my mind, yet when I turn around, it feels like a dream, elusive and surreal. 0

"Lin, this is a letter she wrote for you. She asked me to deliver it. Take a look; maybe she mentioned where she intends to go." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi hurriedly took the letter. The soft yellow paper emitted a faint scent of ink. He held it tightly, unsure whether to open it, fearing it might be a farewell letter that declared their ending. Shangguan Yiting looked at him with concern, realizing that she was wrong this time. It was only then that she understood that everyone lives differently; as long as one takes care of their own affairs, why worry about others? With too many variables and the chaos of the world, if everything could develop as she wished, then this world would be too perfect. 0

The sound of tearing paper filled the air as Shangguan Shaoyi ripped open the envelope and pulled out the letter. It was written in Moxu's elegant small script, crafted with a brush. 0

"Shaoyi, what expression do you have when you read this letter? Are your brows furrowed tightly again? I’m not here anymore; you need to smile more. Otherwise, you'll really turn into an ice block, just like when we first met. What are the odds of meeting in this vast sea of people? Outside the long pavilion, by the ancient road, separations unfold one after another. In the tavern, among travelers, laughter continuously overlaps. Parting doesn’t mean no reunion; laughter doesn’t mean longing. What are the odds of falling in love after meeting? Snow and rain swirl down, filling a room with lingering emotions. The setting sun is lonely; I hear a few desolate sounds. Seasons intertwine and change unpredictably. From strangers to blooming flowers with you, from tranquility to chaos, I once thought we could stand together calmly, looking at each other and speaking freely. Yet we must part ways and go our separate paths, never to meet again. Take care. Don’t miss me." 0

"What did she say?" Shangguan Yiting quickly asked. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi felt powerless to respond and handed the letter to Shangguan Yiting. "No matter what, I have to go to Shanghai and bring Moxu back." 0

"Okay." Shangguan Yiting replied promptly. "Don't worry; I won't interfere in your matters anymore." 0

"You may not interfere, but she might not be willing to come back." He left without looking back, knowing that this time she had truly made up her mind to leave him. 0
