The heavy curtains blocked the bright moonlight. Cheng Mo Su sat by the bed, her gaze drifting outside. It had been about seven days since the news of the troop withdrawal appeared in the newspaper, yet there was still no sign of Shaoyi. But she knew clearly in her heart that Shaoyi had already returned to New Beicheng. Water-colored Eyes stirred; he was back, and even the air felt different. 0

There was some movement outside the door. Cheng Mo Su hurried to the hallway, a faint smile on her lips, only to see Shen Deputy Officer in military attire, his eyes filled with longing for Xiaojing. The two embraced quietly, bathed in moonlight, a beautiful and serene reunion. She smiled softly and quietly returned to her room, unwilling to disturb them. 0

As she expected, Shaoyi had indeed come back... 0

The morning sun still carried a hint of chill. Shangguan Yiting was grooming herself in front of the mirror, a fine Jade Hairpin lightly holding up her dark hair. With red lips and white teeth, her brows were strikingly beautiful. She nodded with satisfaction at her reflection before turning to go downstairs for breakfast. Her gaze paused as she saw Xiaojing tidying up the tableware and said, "Oh, has Mo Su gotten up so early?" 0

"Yes, Young Mistress has already had breakfast and just left." 0

Left? Shangguan Yiting was taken aback; Mo Su rarely went out, and even when she did, she would usually inform her. This silent departure was a first. She lowered her voice and asked, "Did she say where she was going?" The memory of Mo Su being kidnapped by Inoue still lingered deeply in her mind, causing her to worry. 0

Xiaojing smiled slightly, looking pleased. "Hmm, she went to the command center. This morning, Mingliang came to see me, and Young Mistress asked him to take her there." 0

"Shen Deputy Officer is back?" Shangguan Yiting's eyes brightened instantly. "Doesn't that mean Xiao Lin is back too!" 0

"Yes, that's why Young Mistress didn't wait for the young master to return before rushing over." 0

In the vast command center sat only Shangguan Shaoyi alone. His knuckles cracked under immense pressure as he sat in solitude; the room was eerily quiet without a hint of noise. Shen Mingliang peeked through the crack in the door at Shangguan Shaoyi's cold expression and couldn't help but sigh. He whispered to Cheng Mo Su, "The young master has been sitting here brooding ever since he returned; it's been a day and a night now. Right now, he probably wants to shoot that Jiang Shaohao. But no matter what he's thinking, meals still need to be eaten; otherwise, even iron men can't hold out." 0

"I understand." Water Eyes filled with tenderness as they drifted toward Shangguan Shaoyi's chiseled face. Accepting the congee handed over by Shen Mingliang, she smiled gently at him. "Leave this to me; Shen Deputy Officer should go rest now; Xiaojing is still waiting for you." 0

"Mm." Shen Mingliang nodded, a hint of red appearing on his dark skin. 0

She pushed the door open and entered, but he remained oblivious, his cold gaze still fixed on a certain point, the corners of his lips twitching slightly. She walked up to him and placed the bowl of congee on the corner of the table, quietly watching him. It was as if he had realized something, pulling his gaze away slowly to meet her gentle face. 0

In the bright and warm light, Cheng Mo's skin was like jade, his eyes clear, and his red lips slightly blurred. He paused for a moment, feeling much of his bad mood dissipate. He reached out and pulled her close, pressing against her soft warmth. She made no resistance, simply allowing him to vent his emotions. Her watery eyes trembled as his calloused fingers caressed her delicate skin, igniting an inexplicable heat within her. 0

He released her at the right moment, his black eyes filled with infatuation as he leaned close to her ear, speaking softly, "Mo Su, I don't know when we can get Feng Province back..." 0

She was slightly taken aback, her clear eyes misting with emotion. "Shaoyi, we will get it back one day. I believe in you." 0

"Mm." He buried his face in her neck, inhaling her faint fragrance. All his struggles faded away, and he suddenly realized he was a bit hungry. 0

Cheng Mo smiled gently and brought the bowl of congee from the corner of the table in front of him. Her watery eyes sparkled. "Eat quickly; otherwise, it will get cold." 0

He suddenly came to his senses, noticing the worry hidden behind her calm gaze. He couldn't help but smile and said nothing more as he picked up a spoon and began to eat. The warm congee melted between his lips and teeth, making him feel that after such a long time of tension, the string that had been taut finally relaxed upon seeing her. 0

"Eat slowly; if it's not enough, I'll go to the kitchen to help you cook." She leaned slightly forward, but her delicate fingertips were caught by his large hand, pulling her entire body into his embrace. She met his deep black eyes and blushed slightly, gently pushing him away while lowering her gaze. "You really... can't be serious even while eating." 0

He chuckled softly; though the corners of his lips did not move, she felt his amusement. She nestled quietly in his arms, allowing the lingering scent of gunpowder to envelop her tightly. He set down the spoon and pressed a warm kiss on her forehead while playing with the ends of her soft hair, momentarily lost in thought. 0

She looked up at him; there was too much burden in his eyes—toward all the troops, toward the entire Shangguan family, toward himself and his family... 0

All burdens rested on him alone, but who ever considered how young he was? At seventeen, he faced the loss of loved ones and shifts in power. Then came the departure of a beloved one; for the greater good, he had to betray his own feelings and submit. Just when he finally found a moment to rest, he faced the expulsion of invaders again. Yet he had never been defeated; from the day she met him, he had been running continuously in pursuit of something. He held dreams in his heart along with responsibilities and obligations; facing continuous difficulties, he was rejected yet continued to conquer them. He believed in himself and in strength; thus she also believed in everything and in him. 0

Her nose tinged with sadness as he could not allow her to cry. Kisses fell like raindrops on her forehead, shoulders, or lips. His pitch-black cold eyes held an unnoticed weariness. She reached out to wrap her arms around his neck in response to his kiss, wishing only to relieve him of this heavy burden. 0

He was too calm, too cautious. Everyone trusted him immensely and had high expectations, yet they did not know how tired and difficult it was for him. 0

“Cheng Mosu,” he murmured her name, and she finally came to her senses, realizing her cheeks were stained with tears. His eyes were filled with tenderness. “Why are you crying? Didn’t I come back safely?” 0

“Mm.” Cheng Mosu hurriedly rubbed the corners of her eyes, raising her beautiful brows and speaking softly, “As long as you’re back, everything is good.” 0

Shangguan Shaoyi smiled, tightening his embrace around her arm. The weight in his heart dissipated under her gentle affection. He looked at her delicate profile and felt as if she were a fairy descended to earth, her smile more radiant than the stars. Her serene nature and unadorned elegance always touched the softest corners of his heart unexpectedly. 0

“Cheng Mosu,” he called her gently, as if confirming her existence. 0

“Mm.” She responded softly, saying little else. Her delicate hands played with the medal on Shaoyi’s collar, her gaze surprisingly bright. “Shaoyi, don’t think about those troubling matters for now. One day, you will reclaim Feng Province. I have always believed that.” 0
