He smiled lightly, but she clearly saw the coldness behind that smile. She knew he was a proud person who hated anyone making decisions for him or forcing him to do something. Her actions had probably already annoyed him. 0

He pulled her back into the room and slammed the door shut. The wind chimes hanging on the door jingled, but the sound was no longer crisp and joyful. 0

He cradled her delicate head, looking at her gaunt face. The deep pain was etched in the corners of her eyes and brows. He paused for a moment and lowered his voice, "Mo Su, why do you have to put yourself through this?" 0

"I'm not," she replied lightly, a gentle smile playing on her lips as her painted brows subtly stirred in his gaze. "Shaoyi, I’ve thought it through carefully. I truly believe my sister is right; I cannot drag down the entire family because of my own reasons." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi fell silent, his eyes filled with sorrow. "Mo Su, if only you could think less about these things." 0

She slowly broke into a faint smile, her water-like eyes tranquil as she spoke softly, "Shaoyi, no one calls me 'Miss Cheng' anymore. I am now 'Consort Shangguan.' My identity has changed, and so have my responsibilities; my thoughts must change accordingly." 0

"Mo Su." He called her name, his handsome face shrouded in silence. "Have you ever noticed that your family, the Rong Family, has only one daughter? Yet neither your father-in-law nor Uncle Rong has considered the issue of heirs." 0

"Yes." Cheng Mo looked at him quietly and said gently, "But we are a business family; it is natural for wealth to be passed to a daughter. You are a warlord; do you expect my sister to lead troops into battle? Do you wish for the lands you fought for to remain unguarded?" 0

Her series of questions struck a chord in his heart. He had pondered these issues too but did not care much; life was unpredictable enough while living, let alone after death. He was not an emperor seeking eternal legacy nor did he desire the Shangguan Family to last for centuries; he only wanted peace and stability in the present. 0

His brows grew colder, his gaze deepened, and his expression turned silent. She watched him nervously and spoke softly and gently, "Shaoyi, I know you care for me and don’t want me to leave. But rest assured, I won’t leave you; I..." 0

"Enough." He abruptly interrupted her, frowning slightly as he raised his chin. She suddenly lost sight of those deep eyes, and panic surged within her. He turned away from her and stopped looking at her. "Everyone says they are doing it for my sake, making decisions one after another—who has ever asked for my opinion?" 0

He was indeed angry about this matter. She lowered her gaze and sighed, reaching out to grasp his sleeve. However, he seemed to anticipate her movement and gently lifted his arm, pulling out a cigar from his pocket. He silently lit it and let the scent waft through the air. 0

“Shaoyi…” she called out, unsure of what to say, and could only silently watch him finish his cigarette. The swirling smoke obscured his silhouette, making it impossible for her to discern his emotions; she felt as if he had suddenly drifted far away from her. 0

Eventually, he turned to look at her. Seeing her slightly reddened eyes, his dark gaze involuntarily trembled. He reached out to embrace her and said nothing else, “Mo Su, take a nap.” 0

She wasn’t in the mood for that; she just wanted to be alone in silence. She took a small step back, stubbornly biting her Rose-Colored Lips. 0

He paused for a moment and reached out to grab her. The faint scent of her fragrance quietly lingered in his heart. He pulled the curtains shut, blocking out the cold light, and the room suddenly dimmed. In the brightness, there was a hint of darkness etched in, making his expression even less clear. 0

Her fair Fingertips traced upward along the direction of his buttons, stopping at his tightly pressed lips. He looked at her, feeling the distant gaze she held. Grasping her delicate Fingertips, he instantly pressed her down onto the soft bed. She turned her eyes away from him and did not look at him; her voice seemed to come from a distant horizon, “Shaoyi, I’m tired. You should go find Miss Xia.” 0

The expression that had finally eased suddenly froze into ice. He tightly gripped her slender wrist, forcing her to meet his gaze. 0

“Cheng Mo Su, do you know what you’re saying!” 0

She bit her Rose-Colored Lips, intoxicated by the scent of tobacco surrounding her, feeling the warmth transmitted through his Fingertips. She closed her Eyes and shook her head, “Shaoyi, you should go. I’m sorry; I can’t convince myself. I really can’t be so selfish and let you and the Shangguan Family…” 0

He paused for a moment, tightening his grip on her wrist even more as he watched the veins on her pale arm become more pronounced. His eyes were as cold as ice, “I’ve told you before, I don’t care!” 0

“But I care.” She continued softly, summoning the courage to meet his gaze but was struck by the harshness and pain in his eyes. “Shaoyi, I am also someone who pursues perfection. I’ve already lost a part of myself; I don’t want my reasons to cause you to lose anything else.” 0

The pain and struggle in her eyes halted his thoughts for a moment, a wave of heartache surged within him. He knew that Mo Su was fragile and sensitive, both weak and stubborn; thus, he was willing to expend all his strength to shield her from harm. She came from a noble background and had been strictly trained in behavior and speech since childhood; she wouldn’t allow herself any mistakes. This was why she was so obsessed with perfection. 0

However, everything in this world is inherently flawed. The moon waxes full but will eventually wane. When it wanes, it will eventually wax again. He knew she would risk everything for him and that she would magnify his troubles a hundredfold or a thousandfold, causing chaos in her thoughts. 0

He slowly released her, the anger in his heart gradually fading in her calm gaze. She squinted in pain, moving her wrist that had gone numb from his grip, fresh red marks visible on her fair skin. He sat to the side, lighting a cigar and smoking silently, while she watched him from a distance, observing the increasingly cold color of his eyes and the lingering sadness between his brows. 0

"Mo Su." His voice was somewhat hoarse. "Are you so sure that I won't grow distant because I've married a concubine?" 0

"Yes, I believe so." She nodded, the scent of smoke from him filling the room, providing her with a sense of security and making her feel entranced. 0

He chuckled softly, his gaze deepening, his voice distant. "You really are just a child." 0

She looked at him in confusion as he gazed into the distance, seemingly lost in some emotion. "People are not grass or wood; who can be without feelings? The more you interact, the more things will change." 0

She was taken aback, her bright eyes dimming. She knew that Shaoyi was merely cold on the surface; in reality, he remembered clearly who treated him well and who cared for him. If this concubine truly bore him children, given his character, he would not be overly neglectful. How would she then cope with that situation? 0

"So you really have thought this through?" He raised an eyebrow, looking at her. 0

She remained silent for a moment before nodding. His gaze sharpened as if disappointed; he straightened up and walked out. 0
