Jiang Shanghao slowly walked up to Nan Wan, and with each step, his curiosity deepened. Upon meeting Nan Wan's calm and arrogant demeanor, he stopped and said loudly, "Brother Nan, long time no see." 0

"Yes, long time no see. Please have a seat." Nan Wan gestured towards the sofa. Jiang Shanghao's expression showed no signs of disturbance; he was only calculating the unknown in his heart as he slowly sat down. Nan Wan reached out to offer him a cigarette, but Jiang Shanghao did not take it, calmly saying, "Sorry, I quit." 0

Nan Wan did not press the issue, retracting the cigarette and lighting it instead. The blue-red flame danced as he burned the cigar, smoke rising and obscuring the outlines of their faces. Once sworn brothers who shared both fortune and adversity were now separated by an invisible mist; what kind of chasm lay between their hearts? 0

"I'm here this time because I believe you know my purpose," Jiang Shanghao stated directly without any small talk. 0

"Oh? When did I ever know about such matters?" Nan Wan scoffed, flicking the ash from his cigarette with powerful fingertips, the jade ring on his thumb particularly dazzling. 0

Jiang Shanghao lowered his voice, the creases on his forehead deepening further. "Stop playing dumb; return Yating to me." 0

Nan Wan laughed heartily and said, "You're mistaken there. You lost your own daughter; how can you come to me to demand her back?" He extinguished the cigarette butt and looked at Jiang Shanghao with a hint of a profound smile. 0

Jiang Shanghao remained silent for a moment before raising his head, speaking as if to him but also to someone hidden in the room. "I know I owe her many apologies and debts, but she is still my daughter. I have always treated her as my own flesh and blood. If it weren't for my wife's unwillingness, I would have cherished her like a precious gem." 0

"Shaohao, saying these things now is pointless. You should be telling your daughter this instead of discussing it with me here." 0

"I understand." Jiang Shanghao's voice grew heavy. "Yating, Daddy knows you're here and that you don't want to see me right now. That's okay; I'll wait until you want to come home. As long as you return, I won't force you into anything anymore; you can live however you wish." 0

A hint of a smile lingered at the corner of Nan Wan's mouth. If Jiang Shanghao had spoken like this earlier, perhaps none of this series of events would have occurred, nor would Jiang Yating have felt so disheartened. A family that had been her life for over twenty years had treated her merely as a tool for exchanging interests; who could accept that? 0

"Alright, I have nothing more to say. I'm leaving now. I just ask that you take good care of my daughter for our brotherhood's sake." Jiang Shanghao stood up, put on his hat, brushed off the fine dust from his long coat, and walked towards the door without looking back. 0

Behind her was Nan Wan's voice, "Take care, no need to see you off." 0

This year's summer arrived so early and passed so quickly. In the blink of an eye, it was already July, and the heat was still unbearable. The balsam flowers along the path bloomed profusely, their fiery red color dazzling like sunlight, as if they were burning their lives away. Feng Yin gently picked the petals, a pleasant smile on her lips. 0

Since returning to Cheng Mosu's side, her mood had improved tremendously. At the Jiang Family, although she had everything she needed, she could only feel the overwhelming oppression from Madam Jiang. Holding the picked petals, she cheerfully returned to her room and saw Cheng Mosu leaning against a velvet pillow, looking at an art book, which made her smile. 0

"Miss, look at the petals I picked; I'll dye your nails today." 0

Cheng Mosu withdrew her water-colored eyes from the book and set it down. Propping herself up casually with her elbow, she straightened up and smiled lightly, "I don't like having my nails dyed; you can do it yourself." 0

"Okay." Feng Yin chuckled and was about to turn to leave when she heard a series of hurried footsteps outside. The Nan Family had always been quiet; even the chirping of birds and buzzing of insects could be heard clearly. Such eager visitors piqued her curiosity. 0

Before Cheng Mosu could stop her, Feng Yin dashed out. After three to five minutes, she returned with a strange expression on her face. "Miss, it's Jiang Yating; she seems to be about to give birth." 0

Cheng Mosu's heart jolted slightly. A cool pain filled her water-colored eyes as it mingled with the heat outside, sketching a contrast of black and white amidst the colorful scenery—joy intertwined with melancholy—flooding her heart with sorrow. No matter how indifferent she tried to be, at the moment Jiang Yating gave birth, she would truly become Shaoyi's wife and family. 0

She slowly stood up, opened the window, and quietly hummed a song she had heard in her childhood. The soft sound mingled with the fragrance in the wind and drifted into her soul. She recalled her past with Shaoyi—the sweetness and sorrow, love and separation. She suppressed the urge to cry, feeling neither sadness nor joy; only the softest nerves and most hidden emotions were gently stirred within her heart, creating ripples. 0

Feng Yin watched her slender yet fragile silhouette and couldn't help but feel teary-eyed. She didn't understand why her miss's fate was so tumultuous but admired her grace and tranquility amidst chaos. 0

The footsteps outside grew louder and more chaotic; the sounds of painful struggles echoed in her ears. She furrowed her beautiful brows, knowing that Jiang Yating must be in great pain right now. Alarmed, she moved a few steps and said, "Feng Yin, let's go see if there's anything we can do to help." 0

"Oh." Feng Yin murmured in dissatisfaction but followed Cheng Mosu out. Cheng Mosu's room and Jiang Yating's were at opposite ends of a corridor; usually, they dined separately and took breaks at different times, resulting in them not seeing each other much despite living under the same roof for several months. 0

Cheng Mosu took a few steps but suddenly seemed to remember something. She halted her pace and turned back, her voice calm and clear, "There are so many people outside; I probably can't help with anything. Let's go back." 0

"Yes." Feng Yin quickly nodded, feeling relieved. She truly had no good feelings towards Jiang Yating. 0

Before they could return to the room, they heard the panicked voices of the Doctor and Nurse nearby. "Madam, please hold on a bit." Another Nurse rushed out and looked at Nan Wan, who was waiting at the door, saying, "Mr. Nan, this lady is experiencing severe bleeding; I'm afraid... I'm afraid..." 0

"Afar what? Speak up!" Nan Wan glared at the flustered Nurse. 0
