I said with a cold smile, "What nonsense are you talking about? When did we have a fever?" Zhang Ting said anxiously.
"When I came to see you yesterday, your complexion was rosy and you didn't look sick at all, but you called me saying you had a fever and that your husband wasn't home, asking me to take care of you. Isn't it right for me to call an ambulance?" I questioned.
"I... I was..." Zhang Ting stammered, unable to find her words.
"Don't try to argue. We doctors ran many tests and spent over ten thousand yuan. You must pay us back!" the man said arrogantly.
I realized that these two were trying to extort money from me. "This is extortion! I'm going to call the police!" I said as I took out my phone.
"Oh, you dare to call the police? Do you believe I won't beat you up?" The man raised his fist as if to hit me.
I looked at him coldly and said, "If you have the guts, go ahead! This is a company, and there are cameras everywhere. If you want to go to jail, just hit me!"
Hearing this, the man hesitated and lowered his fist.
"Don't leave yet. I've already called the police. When they arrive, you can explain everything to them!" I said calmly.
When Zhang Ting heard that I had called the police, she panicked and desperately gestured for me not to report them. But I ignored her; I had seen through their scheme and wouldn't fall for it!
Before long, the police arrived. While they weren't paying attention, I had my colleague help me call the police. With my colleague as a witness and the company's surveillance video, I could accuse them of extortion. Plus, I had recordings of the harassing calls they made to me in the middle of the night as evidence.
This time, I was determined to make them "pay" so they wouldn't bully me again.
At the police station, Zhang Ting was so anxious she was about to cry. She kept signaling me desperately to explain things clearly. The police told them that their behavior constituted intentional harm and extortion, which could lead to imprisonment if convicted.
The man initially sat arrogantly with his legs crossed, acting fearless. But after hearing what the police said, he became restless. However, he couldn't bring himself to ask for my forgiveness due to pride and had to rely on Zhang Ting to plead with me.
" Xiaxia, I'm sorry! Please forgive me this once! It was because I was pregnant and the hospital fees were too high that I acted foolishly by coming to you. I promise I won't do it again; please forgive me!" Zhang Ting pleaded as she held my hand.
I pretended to be upset for a while: "Originally, I called because I was worried about you being sick, but who would have thought you would repay my kindness with malice?"
"Considering we are colleagues, I won't pursue this further, but you must compensate me for my medical expenses and emotional distress," I sighed.
"Okay, okay, we will compensate you!" Zhang Ting hurriedly said.
After resolving this matter, I decided to resign quickly and leave this toxic environment to live a stable life.
That night, I had a dream.
I dreamed that Zhang Ting's Husband came at me with a large knife, claiming that I had caused his child's death and that he was out for revenge.
I was terrified and kept running for my life, but he eventually caught up with me.
He chased me wildly with the knife, shouting that I had to pay with my life.
I desperately tried to escape, but in the end, he caught up to me.
He lunged at me with the knife, and despite my struggles, he ultimately stabbed me in the heart.
"Ah!" I woke up in a cold sweat.
Thinking about what happened during the day filled me with dread; if I hadn't reported it to the police, I might really have been killed by Zhang Ting's Husband!
