As a new day dawned, the Azure Wind Sword Sect became lively once again.
Many Outer Sect Disciples began to speculate about the top ten rankings this time. They expressed their support for Brother Shi, confidently asserting that he would definitely make it into the top ten among the Outer Sect Disciples. Some even believed that he could easily contend for one of the top three spots. As for the final outcome and whether it would align with their expectations, we could only quietly await the results of today's seventh round of eliminations.
"Today marks the start of the competition for the top ten. First, twenty disciples will come up to draw lots," an Elder announced from the stage. In front of him was a wooden box containing twenty numbered tokens, all facing down so that the numbers were not visible.
The twenty Outer Sect Disciples stepped forward one by one to take a token. They flipped their tokens to see their numbers, silently memorizing them before returning to their seats.
"You have all seen your drawn numbers. Those with the same number will be opponents in this Match. From number one to number ten, we will now begin Match number one," the Elder commanded, and two individuals stepped onto the central Sword Testing Platform.
"Tsk tsk, the first one on stage is Zhao Shixiong, one of the Top Ten Experts of the Outer Sect. This Match is going to be exciting; it's bound to be more intense than before, as they are truly skilled opponents."
"Hehe, I fear the opponent is not weak either. Which of those who made it this far is a weakling? It’s likely to be a fierce battle."
As expected by those Outer Sect Disciples, the two exchanged bows and took their stances, engaging in a fierce sword duel.
Sword lights flashed and figures blurred as their swords clashed with ringing sounds, sparks flying from their strikes. Many Outer Sect Disciples watched with excitement. Even the other competitors among the twenty kept their eyes glued to the match; it was a great opportunity to observe their opponents' strengths.
"His strength is indeed impressive, but he is still no match for me. You can go down now!" Zhao Shixiong shouted as he seized on an opening from his opponent's mistake and unleashed an Intermediate Sword Technique, sending his opponent flying three zhang away.
"Do you want to fight again?" Zhao Shixiong asked loudly without continuing his assault.
"Forget it, I concede this time," his opponent replied, realizing that his injuries were not light. Even if he had the ability to continue fighting, he would likely still lose in the end. Moreover, knowing that Zhao Shixiong had held back made further combat pointless.
"This time, Match, Zhao Shixiong won. Next is the second Match, please come to the stage." Elder Judge announced the results and paused before continuing.
The next contestants were two unfamiliar faces, with only a few people recognizing them, but that did not hinder their discussions and observations.
Both of them were evenly matched in strength, and after nearly half an hour of Battle, a winner was finally determined.
"Ren Shidi, I'm going up first; my Match is next." Fei Hou said lightly, then stood up with a smile, preparing to take the stage.
"Well then, I wish Fei Shixiong a victorious start," Ren Pingsheng said with a smile.
"Thanks for your kind words; I will definitely give it my all. Make sure to watch closely."
"I heard you are one of the new disciples this time. Since you've made it this far, your strength must not be weak," Fei Hou's opponent was a Brother Shi from the previous session.
"Hehe, then please show some mercy, Brother Shi," Fei Hou replied with a light laugh, his tone neither arrogant nor humble.
"Hmph, don't expect any mercy. If you want to win, show your skills. Unfortunately for you, as a new disciple, your journey ends here." The opponent's tone was completely unyielding.
"If Brother Shi truly has the ability, I will gladly concede my place in the top ten."
"Enough talk; let's see your true skills!" With that, the two stopped talking and drew their swords.
Fei Hou used the Intermediate Sword Technique Flowing Cloud Sword Technique, which he must have learned from the Library. This Sword Technique in his hands flowed like clouds, unpredictable and concealing hidden dangers within its formlessness. Combined with his Movement Technique, the stage was filled with illusions. It bore some resemblance to Ren Pingsheng's Phantom Moon Movement Technique.
The opponent had been in the arena for over a year, so he was certainly not incompetent. His Sword Technique was also quite proficient, moving with great flair and successfully blocking all attacks.
"Fei Shixiong's talent is indeed extraordinary; not only is his cultivation on par with others, but his mastery of Sword Technique is also exceptionally refined. He is likely to achieve great things in the future," Ren Pingsheng thought as he watched from below.
Suddenly, he felt a gaze filled with animosity. Turning to look, he was surprised to find it was Huang Qing. This was the guy who had come with him initially, but now Huang Qing's look at Ren Pingsheng could hardly be described as friendly. Moreover, judging by his position, he was also one of the twenty competitors.
"He has advanced too; I didn't even notice it. It's truly incredible," Ren Pingsheng murmured to himself. Seeing Huang Qing's provocative gaze made Ren Pingsheng feel somewhat helpless. He didn't know when the conflict had begun; in his view, he hadn't done anything particularly offensive. Why would someone hold a grudge against him?
Moreover, because of him, there was also the issue involving Huang Feng. It seemed that whether he wanted it or not, many troubles would inevitably arise, and there was no way to avoid them.
Ren Pingsheng then chose to ignore Huang Qing's provocation and focused on the Duel taking place on stage. It was clear that both competitors had reached the moment where victory would be decided; their speed and power of attacks had increased significantly. Fei Hou's opponent swept his steel sword, shattering many afterimages, while Fei Hou effortlessly dodged each time and continued to attack.
In the end, Fei Hou used an Intermediate Sword Technique along with two lower-tier sword techniques to disrupt his opponent's attacks and secured victory in this Match, earning a spot in the top ten.
"Haha, congratulations Fei Shixiong on making it into the top ten! It’s not impossible for you to advance further," Ren Pingsheng said as he congratulated Fei Hou who had just taken a seat.
"It might be difficult from here on out; I know my own strength well. Compared to several other formidable Outer Sect Disciples, there is still quite a gap," Fei Hou replied with a smile, not feeling very optimistic about the upcoming Matches.
Ren Pingsheng didn’t say anything further; he nodded and continued watching the next Match.
During this time, some of the previous Outer Sect Disciples and Top Ten Experts took to the stage; some lost while most won. Particularly, Wei Hong's strength was indeed formidable. His opponent was also a top-ten expert, yet after just half a quarter of an hour of Battle, he easily defeated him.
"Ren Shidi, Wei Hong's strength is truly impressive; you need to be careful if you face him. I have no confidence at all," Fei Hou kindly reminded him.
"Don't worry. If I really encounter it, I will be careful," Ren Pingsheng said with a light laugh while stroking his chin. His sparkling eyes seemed to be lost in thought.
"Next is Seven's Match, please have the contestants come to the stage." The voice announced again.
"Oh, it's my turn. I wonder who my opponent is this time," Ren Pingsheng thought to himself as he slowly stepped onto the Number One Sword Testing Platform, joining the Outer Sect Disciples who had not yet taken the stage.
"Haha, Ren Pingsheng, it's really you. I didn't expect us to have such fate; this time, you are in for a show," Huang Qing said with a hypocritical smile as he stepped onto the stage after him. Ren Pingsheng finally realized who his opponent was.
"Heh, I also didn't expect my opponent would be you. Even more surprising is that you made it this far; it's truly unexpected," Ren Pingsheng replied, somewhat astonished.
"Hmph, what's there to be surprised about? I've said before that having good cultivation talent doesn't necessarily mean you'll go far. Look at those two hundred people who had better talent than me back then; how many of them are standing on this stage now?" Huang Qing pointed at the Outer Sect Disciples below, his expression quite arrogant.
This remark made the Outer Sect Disciples listening frown involuntarily, especially those who entered at the same time as him, some feeling dejected while others were angry.
"Is that so? Maybe you're ahead of them now, but who knows what things will look like in a few years," Ren Pingsheng said calmly, looking at his smug demeanor.
"Hmph, as long as I'm ahead, I'll leave them far behind forever." He wore a disdainful and proud expression, having completely forgotten that his rapid advancement was entirely due to his older brother's relentless supply of Elixirs.
"Forget it; I don't want to waste any more words with you. Draw your sword; once I deal with you, I can rest properly."
"Deal with me? Ren Pingsheng, just because you were first among the Registered Disciples doesn't mean you can be so arrogant. I'll make you aware of the gap between us and let you know that your previous wins over me were merely luck," Huang Qing shouted angrily as he drew his sword and struck with incredible speed, instantly closing the distance between them.
"Sword Technique is quite good, but you're still far from using it effectively." Dodging the opponent's attack, Ren Pingsheng did not draw his sword, only saying this.
"Heh, anyone can talk big. If you have the ability, don't dodge. I just can't stand people like you."
"I am who I am, regardless of whether you like it or not. I'm just curious to see how far your Sword Technique can go."
"Hmph, you'll find out." After saying that, Huang Qing once again wielded his Sword Technique, each slash accompanied by several flashes of Sword Light. However, each time it merely brushed past Ren Pingsheng, missing him by mere inches without even touching the hem of his clothing.
"Good, very good. I underestimated you. Try my Intermediate Sword Technique." Huang Qing had a furious expression, his triangular eyes filled with cold light. A surge of energy rose up as a wave of Sword Light rushed forward with intense force.
"Not bad in power, but your control over strength..." Ren Pingsheng slowly drew his steel sword. With every inch it was drawn, his momentum grew stronger. When the energy reached its peak, he instantly drew the sword, and a flash of white light appeared. A plain golden light flickered.
In just a flash, it collided with the opponent's sword technique and then effortlessly shattered it. Another flash brought him right in front of Huang Qing. Only then did an overwhelming sharpness emanate.
"Not good!" Huang Qing's eyes narrowed as he executed another sword technique. However, it had no effect; upon contact, it shattered immediately. Terrified, he barely managed to position his steel sword across his chest when there was a loud 'bang,' sending him flying three or four yards away before he finally got up.
Although he had blocked the attack with his sword, the endless sharpness penetrated through him. It caused a pain that felt like being pricked by needles, rendering him unable to exert any strength.
"I... I concede!" When he finally stood up and saw the deep scratch on his steel sword, he was genuinely startled.
If that had struck him directly, he would have been finished. He then stopped forcing himself and gloomily admitted defeat.
