Amidst my father's discontented murmurs, Shen Yulin successfully took the household registration book from his hands. Ignoring the child who was crying loudly, he firmly pulled me towards the civil affairs bureau. Perhaps even fate wanted to lend him a hand, as there wasn't a single person there to register for marriage when we arrived. Thus, in less than ten minutes, we obtained the small red book symbolizing our marital relationship. I looked at Shen Yulin helplessly and said with a wry smile, "This is way too fast!" Shen Yulin, however, responded triumphantly, "Mrs. Shen, you can't run away this time!"
Shen Yulin reached out and gently took the two bright marriage certificates from my hands. He smiled, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. He stacked the certificates together and playfully said to me, "I'll keep this for you. You're so careless; it wouldn't be good if you accidentally lost it!" After saying that, he took out his phone and snapped a picture of the marriage certificates, as if to document this important moment.
Next, he carefully placed the red book into his bag. Watching his actions, I felt puzzled and dissatisfied, furrowing my brows as I questioned him, "Wait a minute, shouldn't we each have one marriage certificate? Why do you get to keep both?" However, Shen Yulin did not answer my question; he simply smiled broadly and took my hand, leading me towards the car parked nearby.
I was somewhat confused by his behavior, but seeing him so happy, I had no choice but to follow him into the car. The vehicle slowly stopped in front of a shopping mall, and I asked curiously, "What are we doing here? Tang Tang should be hungry by now." "Mrs. Shen, how can you not have what others have?" he replied mysteriously with a wink. After that, he held my hand and walked into a jewelry store.
As soon as we entered the store, a salesperson approached us with a professional smile and said, "Hello! How can I assist you today?" "Wedding rings," Shen Yulin casually uttered these two words, and I suddenly realized what he was planning to do; an indescribable sense of happiness surged within me.
"Great! Please follow me," the salesperson warmly led us to a sofa and gestured for us to sit down. She then turned and walked to the counter; shortly after, she returned with several pairs of rings of different sizes and styles laid out carefully in front of us. "Please take a look; these are our store's unique wedding rings. You can see if there's any style you like, and if you're interested, you can try them on," she gently introduced.
Shen Yulin leaned back on the sofa and gestured for me to choose. I hesitated for quite some time without making a decision. At that moment, Shen Yulin sat up straight and calmly told the salesperson, "I want that pair called 'Star Return.'"
The salesperson was momentarily taken aback but then her eyes lit up. "Okay! Please wait a moment!" After saying that, she turned and whispered something to another salesperson. The other salesperson retrieved a pair of rings from the display case in the courtyard and handed them to her. The salesperson carefully presented the rings in front of me. My eyes were immediately drawn to this pair; their unique design featured sparkling diamonds that resembled brilliant stars in the night sky. Surrounding the diamonds were intricate metallic patterns that conveyed an elegant yet mysterious feeling.
"Do you like them?" Shen Yulin asked softly, his gaze filled with anticipation. I nodded with joy in my heart. "These rings are simply beautiful." The salesperson smiled and said, "This pair is called 'Star Return.' The meaning of the rings is that eternal stars will one day return to my side. Would you like to try them on?"
Eternal stars will one day return to my side? Hearing such a meaning made my eyelids flutter with shock inside. Didn't this imply something about my relationship with Shen Yulin?
