"Alright, stop looking and swim quickly!"
Everyone waved their arms and struggled to swim forward, but their efforts were in vain. The waves here surged in the opposite direction, pushing them further away instead.
"Why are we getting farther away?" Someone soon noticed this frustrating fact.
"Don't panic, a wave is coming soon. This time we'll go with the current and drift over," He Shuo shouted loudly.
He Shuo had extensive experience surviving at sea; he kept his eyes fixed on the surface of the water, looking for the best moment. "Go, hurry up, the wave is coming."
With the powerful crashing and pushing of the waves, everyone quickly made significant progress.
Xu Qingyuan's swimming skills were not good at all, and without a life jacket, he fell behind. He weakly grasped at the lifeboat, as if making a final struggle.
Suddenly, a massive wave surged up from behind him, instantly pulling him into the unfathomable depths of the sea.
The rope connecting him had long since snapped, and Xu Qingyuan's strength was nearly exhausted.
Through the water, he helplessly looked up at the shadow that swiftly passed overhead.
The darkness made it impossible for anyone to notice him.
Despair washed over Xu Qingyuan in an instant.
The feeling of suffocation, the eerie atmosphere, and endless fear surged from all directions as his outstretched hand slowly slipped down.
The dark weather made it nearly impossible for him to see any light; his rapidly descending body became faintly visible beneath the surface.
As his life force gradually faded, Xu Qingyuan's eyes slowly closed, and his consciousness began to blur.
In a daze, he seemed to feel something gently wrapping around him from behind.
"Hey, where's Professor Xu? He was just here a moment ago, how could he suddenly disappear?"
"Yeah, I saw him just now too. One moment he was here, and the next he vanished with a splash. Oh no! Could he have been swept away by the waves?"
"How is that possible? We were tied together with a rope, right? Could something have carried him off?"
The few people who noticed Xu Qingyuan's disappearance spoke loudly, successfully catching He Shuo's attention.
"What happened?"
One person hurriedly replied, "Wasn't Professor Xu tied to you? Where is he?"
He Shuo spat out the seawater in his mouth and tugged hard at the rope around his waist. The speed at which the rope pulled back increased, and He Shuo's expression grew increasingly serious.
After pulling it to the end, he suddenly realized that the rope had already been severed.
He Shuo's eyes widened as he stared blankly at the neatly cut end of the rope. Rainwater and seawater continuously streamed down his cheeks, merging into a rushing flow at his chin.
...
The thunderstorm over the sea quickly passed during the day, and the dark clouds dispersed rapidly, replacing the oppressive atmosphere with clear skies.
"You guys think, where did Professor Xu go?" One person sat on a rock, wringing out his clothes with all his might.
"Who knows? After that extreme weather earlier, it's a miracle we survived; we must be lucky."
"Then we should at least search for him! Isn't it too much for He Shuo to just let us go like this..."
"The signal has been restored. I'll send a message to the rescue team at the research institute first."
The restoration of the signal instantly lifted everyone's spirits.
Opening the optical brain, everyone began to contact their families and the rescue team, while He Shuo stood alone on the rocks, his gaze still fixed on the sea.
"He Shuo, aren't you going to let your family know you're safe?"
He Shuo, bare-chested under the glaring sunlight, revealed his solid muscles as he wrung out a string of water droplets from the cloth hanging from his waist.
He twisted the cloth in his hand forcefully, turned around, and coldly said, "I have no family."
"Ah... this..."
He Shuo: "The wave that just hit us wasn't far away; it was moving in the direction of the island. If Professor Xu was knocked unconscious by the wave, he could very likely be pushed ashore by the tide. We should search for him along the coastline now."
He Shuo turned around, standing nearly six feet three inches tall, with powerful muscle lines that gave off a strong sense of pressure.
"Alright, alright."
A hint of good cheer finally appeared on Yang Luo's face as he eagerly nodded.
Standing on a rock, Yang Luo shouted loudly, "Brothers, let's search along the coastline for Professor Xu. He might be washed up here. We want to see him alive or dead!"
Leaving two people to guard Bai Qi while waiting for the rescue team, everyone else joined in the search for Xu Qingyuan.
Along the coastline, the group had just survived a life-and-death escape, and their stamina had not yet recovered. After only a few steps, they were gasping for breath and collapsed onto the rocks, unable to move.
"I can't go on, Lao Yang. This Demon Island is ridiculously large; we won't be able to walk it all. Let's take a break," one of them said.
Seeing several people slumped on the rocks, motionless, Yang Luo didn't want to force them to move. He gritted his teeth and looked at He Shuo's distant figure before deciding to follow him.
"He Shuo, are you sure Professor Xu will also come to this island?" Yang Luo asked, supporting himself on his knees and breathing heavily.
He Shuo seemed to have an endless supply of energy; after walking such a long distance, he wasn't even out of breath.
"I'm not sure."
Yang Luo suddenly lifted his head from where it was bowed at his waist. "What should we do then? Professor Xu is the main person in charge of this operation. If anything happens to him, we don't know what kind of punishment we'll face from headquarters!"
He Shuo ignored him and continued striding forward with his long legs, agilely climbing up to a higher position on a giant rock that offered a broad view.
He took out his optical brain, switched it to telescope mode, and hung it on his right ear. A holographic magnified projection appeared before his right eye.
He Shuo focused intently on scanning the surroundings, carefully searching for Xu Qingyuan's trace.
Although the scenery here was beautiful, the numerous rocks created many blind spots, making it difficult to see everything clearly.
Suddenly, He Shuo's gaze fixed on something. He crouched down and quickly drew a handgun from behind him.
"What did you see?" Yang Luo asked urgently as He Shuo's expression changed so rapidly that he couldn't react in time.
He truly couldn't imagine what could cause such a drastic change in He Shuo's demeanor.
The shadow beneath the sea followed closely behind Xu Qingyuan, maintaining a friendly distance that was neither too far nor too close, making it difficult for anyone to notice.
It wasn't until Xu Qingyuan fell and closed his eyes that it surged forward with a swift motion, like a flash of lightning cutting through the water, and tightly embraced him from behind.
The mermaid grasped Xu Qingyuan's chin with her hand, her amber vertical pupils emitting a mysterious glow in the depths of the ocean.
Ansheng did not hesitate to cover his lips with hers.
You ultimately belong to me.
The underwater mermaid moved so quickly that it was hard to catch with the naked eye; she only surfaced with Xu Qingyuan for a brief moment before reaching the edge of the reef.
They arrived earlier than He Shuo and the others.
The mermaid found it quite difficult to maneuver in the shallow waters. She carefully placed Xu Qingyuan in a spot where the seawater could not reach him.
Xu Qingyuan was choking on water and fell into unconsciousness, unable to awaken for a while.
His clothes were thin, clinging tightly to his body after being soaked in seawater for an extended period, exposing his flesh-colored form. His skin was very pale, and when wet, it exuded an almost ethereal sense of restraint.
A flicker of ambiguity passed through the mermaid's vertical pupils as her irises contracted. The Adam's apple beneath her neck moved slightly, and the corners of her mouth curved into a wide smile.
She extended her claws and carefully helped Xu Qingyuan out of his drenched clothes, stripping him down completely.
Looking at the beautiful fair skin in front of it, the mermaid let out a hissing sound.
It leaned forward and covered its head over her.
After a long while, when Ansheng had everything taken care of, it suddenly sensed a sharp gaze coming from afar.
Turning to look, with vision beyond ordinary imagination, it immediately spotted that annoying guy in the distance.
"Hiss~" Weak little human.
Ansheng laughed wildly.
With its back to He Shuo in the distance, it dressed Xu Qingyuan.
He Shuo drew the gun from his back, but there was nothing he could do; at such a distance, he could never hit the mermaid.
He could only watch helplessly as the mermaid pressed its lips against Xu Qingyuan's right in front of him. Under the high-definition lens's magnification, he even saw that arrogant mermaid pulling a thin silver thread from the corner of Xu Qingyuan's swollen lips.
It twirled its forked tongue gently around Xu Qingyuan's lips, its sharp claws slowly stroking her body.
"Bang."
He Shuo fired a warning shot.
