When everything settled down, Su Qing chose to leave. There was no fanfare, no prior notice; she quietly withdrew from this conflict. The only thing left behind was a brief letter.
That day, I returned home to find a letter lying silently on the table. The envelope bore Su Qing's handwriting, smooth and elegant. Upon opening it, my gaze fell on the few short lines:
" Bai Xi, by the time you read this letter, I will have already left here."
"I want to take my child and leave this city to start a brand new life."
"I do not wish to be involved in your disputes any longer, nor do I want my child to grow up in such an environment."
"I wish you all the best."
"Su Qing."
The letter was short, yet it conveyed a sense of determination. Su Qing did not wait for the day we had originally agreed upon, nor did she ask for anything that belonged to me. She made no further demands or conditions; she simply and decisively vanished from my life.
I gently set down the letter, but there was no surprise in my eyes. In fact, I had known she would leave because I understood Su Qing.
Su Qing is a smart and independent woman. She does not wish to be used or controlled by anyone; it is part of her nature. Previously, she was exploited by Lo Sen, not because she was foolish, but because she was overly confident in her own charm and abilities. She believed that with her intelligence and beauty, Lo Sen would truly give up everything for her, even divorce his wife and promise her the status of Mrs. Luo. However, reality dealt her a harsh blow.
When she finally saw through Lo Sen's true nature, she did not choose to endure or continue relying on him; instead, she decisively chose to leave. She understood that anything related to Lo Sen —be it emotions or wealth—was merely an empty dream. Su Qing's resolve brought me a sense of comfort.
She finally stepped out of this web of schemes and calculations, no longer the woman willing to become a pawn for a man. She left without even saying goodbye to me, but I knew she would lead a happy life. Because she understood that only by distancing herself from this circle filled with betrayal and scheming could she truly find her own peace.
A few days later, I found her at the address Su Qing had left in the letter. It was a sunny afternoon, with a gentle breeze blowing through the streets, and vibrant flowers blooming outside the café windows. I pushed open the glass door, greeted by the rich aroma of coffee and a warm ray of sunlight. Su Qing was already waiting for me.
She was gently stroking her rounded belly, wearing a warm smile on her face. She looked different from usual, lacking the pride and aloofness she once had, appearing particularly gentle.
“ Bai Xi, do you know I'm leaving?” Su Qing asked curiously, her eyes sparkling with a hint of tenderness.
I nodded slightly and replied softly, “I know.”
Su Qing smiled, her expression lightening as if she had finally shed years of burden. “So are you here to see me off?”
I nodded again and took out a bank card from my bag, placing it gently in front of her. Su Qing stared at the card in surprise before looking up at me.
“What is this?” she asked, puzzled.
“This is for you, consider it a farewell gift,” I said quietly.
Su Qing glanced down at the card, her eyes revealing complex emotions. She fell silent for a moment, seemingly hesitating about whether to accept it. I knew that for a proud woman like Su Qing, such a gift might be difficult to accept. After all, she was someone who never easily surrendered to fate.
However, after a moment, she lifted her head and looked at me sincerely, saying softly, “Thank you, Bai Xi.”
In the end, she accepted the card, but I understood that what Su Qing accepted was not money but a farewell and understanding. We had once stood on opposing sides, suspicious and using each other, but ultimately we became each other's redeemers. At that moment, I felt a sense of relief rise within me; this conflict had finally come to an end.
I stood up, preparing to say goodbye to her. “Su Qing, take care. We will meet again,” I said with a smile.
Su Qing also smiled, her expression carrying a hint of relief and contentment. "Goodbye, Bai Xi."
She waved her hand and then turned to walk out the door, disappearing into the bustling crowd. I watched her figure fade away, a surge of indescribable emotions rising within me. Perhaps one day our paths would cross again, or perhaps we would never meet again. But no matter what, I knew that this time, she would find her happiness.
The sunlight streamed through the café's glass window, warming my face with its gentle glow. I picked up my coffee and took a sip, feeling a long-lost sense of calm wash over me.
This was finally over. Su Qing had left with her child, and I had freed myself from all constraints. We had both found our own way forward, no longer entangled with each other or haunted by the shadows of the past. For me, this was not just Su Qing's farewell; it was my final goodbye to the past.
I stood up and walked out of the café, stepping into the sunlight as I moved forward. The future had unfolded before me, and I was ready to embrace my new life.
Perhaps this ending was the best choice for each of us.
