Yun Baichen was nearly driven to laughter by Yun Jiu! 0

He widened his eyes, staring at this girl who had always been clumsy with words and blind to her own feelings. How had she suddenly seemed so enlightened? She kept insisting that he should hit her, but it was clear she didn't genuinely want to die; she was merely trying to evade responsibility! 0

Yun Baichen squinted, scrutinizing Yun Jiu before him. Yes, this was indeed his troublesome Xiao Jiu, but how had she suddenly become so clever? Had Bai Moyu's betrayal truly broken her heart, leading to this sudden awakening? 0

Seeing that Yun Baichen was only observing her in silence, Yun Jiu couldn't help but feel a bit anxious. She quickly untied the branch from behind her and raised her hands, looking pitiful as she said, "Grandfather, I know you love me the most and wouldn't want to truly hurt me. So why not just give me a few whacks with this branch? It will teach me a lesson, and I won't dare to do it again next time!" 0

Yun Baichen glanced at the twig in her hands, his eyelids twitching involuntarily. Was this little brat trying to play with him? That twig was thinner than a noodle; it would probably snap if he hit her with it! He really wanted to swat her down right then and there, but looking at her pitiful expression made it hard for him to do so. 0

"Now tell me in detail how that scoundrel Bai Moyu deceived you!" Yun Baichen threw the twig onto the ground and asked with a stern face. 0

Yun Jiu felt a wave of relief wash over her; at least she wouldn't have to face punishment. She hurriedly recounted the entire incident, of course embellishing it along the way. She painted a vivid picture of an ignorant girl and a sinister scoundrel, making it seem as if they were standing right in front of Yun Baichen. 0

As she spoke until her throat was dry, noticing Yun Baichen deep in thought, she seized the opportunity to kneel beside the coffee table and gulp down a cup of tea. Spotting some snacks on the table, she wasted no time grabbing a piece and started eating. 0

Yun Baichen looked at her eating manner and couldn't help but glare at her. "Xiao Jiu! What kind of behavior is that!" 0

Yun Jiu nearly choked on the snack in her mouth and quickly crawled back to her original spot, kneeling properly. She looked at Yun Baichen with a flattering expression and said, "Grandfather, I promise I will turn over a new leaf! Not just one Spirit Gathering Pill, but any Exploding Spirit Pill would be a piece of cake! I’ll make you treat the pills like candy!" 0

"Exploding Spirit Pill? You really dare to say that!" Yun Baichen was so angry he almost laughed. "That's a fourth-level pill! There aren't even any fourth-level alchemists in Donghua Kingdom who can refine an Exploding Spirit Pill! You really know how to boast!" 0

Yun Jiu shrank her neck and muttered softly, "Just because there aren't any now doesn't mean there won't be in the future..." 0

"What did you say?" Yun Baichen squinted, unable to hear her clearly. 0

"Nothing, nothing!" Yun Jiu quickly shook her head. "I meant to say I will work hard!" 0

Yun Baichen glanced again at the crumbs on the desk and asked seriously, "Xiao Jiu, what exactly happened to your door?" 0

Yun Jiu's heart tightened, and she quickly fabricated a story. "Grandfather, when I returned from Beast Forest, I was feeling very guilty inside the house when suddenly there was a loud bang. Then I was pulled outside by a huge force and... then I fainted!" 0

"And then what happened?" Yun Baichen leaned forward, his expression serious as he clearly found this matter intriguing. 0

"And then there was nothing else!" Yun Jiu looked at him innocently. "When I woke up, I found myself lying in the courtyard. My maid discovered me and hurriedly helped me up." 0

Yun Baichen shot her a fierce glare. "Xiao Jiu! You're getting better at making me angry!" Although he didn't quite believe Yun Jiu's words, he had no evidence to prove she was lying. He could only let it go for now. 0

Yun Jiu glanced at Yun Baichen's expression and made a guess. With a quick turn of her eyes, she continued, "Grandfather must have been passing by and saw that the Yun Family was not doing well, so he casually gave us a little nudge. But we in the Yun Family don’t have any treasures to protect our home or anything like that, so why would anyone take notice of us? If we had enemies, they would have long since taken me out!" 0

Yun Baichen's eyes narrowed for just a moment, but it was enough for Yun Jiu to catch it with her keen perception. Her mind began to race—could it be that the Yun Family really had some hidden treasure? 0
