At six in the evening, Yan Jien returned to the basement from the construction site. As soon as he entered, he received a call from his mother.
"Xiao Yan, how is it going with that girl?" Ye Qinhua asked.
"Mom, she has a pretty good impression of me and even said she would take me to meet you during the New Year," Yan Jien replied.
"Really?" Ye Qinhua said happily.
"Yeah," Yan Jien nodded.
"Then you two should get along well. By the way, where do you work?" Ye Qinhua asked.
"I work in Nanquan City," Yan Jien said.
"That's not far from home. Why don't you bring her back? I'll make some good food for you," Ye Qinhua suggested.
"Mom, she works here and doesn't have time," Yan Jien replied.
"Oh, do you get to see each other often?" Ye Qinhua asked.
"Not too bad," Yan Jien nodded.
"Then you two should really get along well. If it doesn't work out, I'll pay for her to visit you. You young people need time to develop your feelings," Ye Qinhua said.
"Mom, I understand," Yan Jien said helplessly.
"That's good to hear. By the way, a man came to our house yesterday claiming to be your high school biology teacher, asking about how you've been," Ye Qinhua mentioned.
"My biology teacher?" Yan Jien asked in confusion.
"Yes, he even left me his phone number and said you should call him when you have time," Ye Qinhua said.
"Did he say what his name was?" Yan Jien inquired.
"Oh, I forgot," Ye Qinhua thought for a moment before replying.
"Oh, then I understand," Yan Jien nodded.
"When will you come back?" Ye Qinhua asked.
"Sometime later," Yan Jien replied.
"Alright then, be careful out there and don't get into trouble," Ye Qinhua reminded him.
"I know, Mom," Yan Jien nodded.
"Okay then, I'll hang up now," Ye Qinhua said before ending the call.
"A man actually came to my house asking about me?" Yan Jien frowned. He could barely remember his biology teacher and didn't recall him being that young.
"It doesn't matter as long as he's not someone sent by the company," Yan Jien shook his head. He tidied up a bit and then returned to the 28th floor.
"Uncle Yan Jien!" Dou Dou exclaimed happily as she saw him return at the door of his apartment.
“Dou Dou, what brings you here?” Yan Jien asked with a smile.
“Mom said she would be live streaming in the afternoon, so I came to play with you,” Dou Dou replied.
“Is that so?” Yan Jien smiled and patted Dou Dou's head.
“Wuwuwu…”
When Bread and Milk Tea saw Yan Jien return, they ran over and circled around him.
“Dou Dou, did you cough this afternoon?” Yan Jien asked.
“No,” Dou Dou shook her head.
“How is your energy?” Yan Jien inquired.
“I feel great, no cough and no fever,” Dou Dou said.
“That’s good to hear,” Yan Jien nodded.
“Yan Jien, you're back,” Yan Weila said as she finished washing the dishes and walked over to greet him.
“Mm,” Yan Jien nodded.
“Dou Dou didn’t cough this afternoon and is in good spirits,” Yan Weila said.
“I just asked her,” Yan Jien confirmed with a nod.
“Now that she’s feeling better, I’m relieved. I plan to find her a kindergarten so she can join a class,” Yan Weila stated.
“Can’t she just play at home?” Yan Jien questioned, puzzled.
“It would be so boring for her to be home alone. She can play with other kids at kindergarten and learn something too,” Yan Weila explained.
“That makes sense,” Yan Jien agreed with a nod.
“So I plan to send her to a nearby kindergarten in a couple of days; I’ve already made contact,” Yan Weila said.
“Mm,” Yan Jien nodded.
“I’m going to start the live stream now,” Yan Weila announced.
“Okay,” Yan Jien replied with a nod.
Yan Weila went back to her room to live stream, while Yan Jien played with Dou Dou and the pets for a while before starting to train Bread and Milk Tea.
In the evening, Yan Jien meditated in his bedroom.
Every time he meditated, he would think about how he looked when he lost control and then try to transform himself.
His transformation speed had improved significantly, but Yan Jien still felt it wasn't enough.
“Should I try drawing what I look like when I lose control?” Yan Jien thought to himself.
He used to be quite good at drawing, and he remembered his appearance during those moments very clearly; if he drew it, it could serve as a reference.
“I’ll go buy a long canvas tomorrow and draw a picture of myself losing control every day from now on; that should help me transform faster,” Yan Jien decided.
The next morning, Yan Jien got up and went to the living room, finding Yan Weila already awake.
"Yan Jie, why are you up so early today?" Yan Jien asked.
"I couldn't sleep," Yan Weila replied with a smile.
"Dou Dou didn't disturb you last night, did she?" Yan Jien inquired.
"No, she slept really well last night, didn't turn over once and didn't cough at all," Yan Weila said.
"That's good," Yan Jien nodded.
"I have to thank you; if it weren't for you, I wouldn't know what to do," Yan Weila expressed her gratitude.
"It's nothing," Yan Jien shook his head.
"Aren't you going to work today?" Yan Weila asked.
"Right now, I'm a part-time salesperson at the company, so I don't have to stay there all the time," Yan Jien explained.
"Oh," Yan Weila nodded.
"Let's go exercise a bit to celebrate Dou Dou's recovery," Yan Jien suggested with a smile.
"Sure," Yan Weila agreed with a smile.
The two tidied up a bit and then went downstairs to start running.
After exercising, Yan Jien returned home to train Bread and Milk Tea.
Now, Bread and Milk Tea were able to accept Yan Jien's touch; even when they were on the edge of losing control, they could still retain a bit of rationality.
"Woo woo woo..."
Bread and Milk Tea lay on the ground, panting heavily, glaring fiercely at Yan Jien.
"Come here," Yan Jien walked over and waved at them.
"Woo woo woo..."
Bread and Milk Tea slowly approached and lay down at Yan Jien's feet.
"They can now accept my touch, but I still can't control the transformation speed," Yan Jien frowned.
He had drawn himself during his loss of control yesterday, but the transformation speed hadn't increased.
"It seems I'll have to rely on myself," Yan Jien thought.
