Yun Jiu's heart jolted. The daughter of the Yun Family?
Though she always wore a cheerful smile, deep down, she was a cold-hearted person. As her former friend Yun Qi once said, she was a smiling tiger; with all the smiles she gave, even she almost believed she was warm-hearted. However, now, Yun Baichen's gentle words and earnest teachings felt like a warm breeze, melting the ice in her heart.
The daughter of the Yun Family? Great! From now on, she Yun Jiu would also have a family! No longer a wandering soul or a drifting weed.
The little boy pouted and cried out, "I don't have such a bad sister!" After saying that, he shot Yun Jiu a fierce glare and ran off as if some monstrous flood was chasing him.
Yun Jiu awkwardly touched her chin. Was she really that terrifying? Surely not! She glanced at Yun Baichen and forced a smile. "Grandfather, Xiao Shi is right; I did many wrong things in the past. Don't worry, I will definitely turn over a new leaf and become someone worthy of everyone's respect!"
Before Yun Baichen could respond, she quickly dashed away on her short legs. What a joke! If she didn't run now, would she wait for her grandfather to settle accounts with her? She wasn't that foolish!
Yun Baichen watched her flee with a helpless shake of his head, but a fond smile crept onto his lips. This child might be mischievous, but after all, she was his granddaughter.
After running for a while, Yun Jiu was panting heavily. She looked back to see no one following her and let out a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to find a place to rest, she spotted the little boy hiding behind a large tree, wiping his tears while kicking at it.
"Hey, Brat! The real deal is right here! Come on, kick me!" Yun Jiu grinned wickedly.
The little boy turned around and glared at her fiercely. "Yun Jiu! Hmph! Don't think I don't know what you're up to! You just want me to hit you so you can go tell Grandfather! No way!" With that, he took off again.
Yun Jiu rubbed her nose, feeling both amused and exasperated. Was she really that bad? She just wanted to play a little joke on the boy; there was no need for him to be so wary of her. Besides, did she really need to tell her grandfather? She just wanted to take the opportunity to deal with this Brat!
Not far along, Yun Jiu was pulled back by Yun Xiaowu.
Yun Jiu, resembling a little chick, was dragged all the way to Yun Xiaowu's courtyard. She looked up at Yun Xiaowu's tall and powerful figure, her strong arms making her feel utterly helpless and despondent. Yun Xiaowu was only three years older than her, yet she had developed so impressively while Yun Jiu felt like a mere stick! It was truly infuriating how people could be so different.
"Did you return the Spirit Gathering Pill to Grandfather?" Yun Xiaowu asked fiercely as soon as she entered the courtyard, looking just like a creditor demanding repayment.
Yun Jiu nodded repeatedly, bowing her head. "Fifth Sister, don’t worry! I know I was wrong! I promise to turn over a new leaf and become a better person!" As she spoke, she observed Yun Xiaowu's expression. Seeing it soften slightly, she continued, "Fifth Sister, are you tired? Let me give you a shoulder massage."
With that, Yun Jiu pushed the dazed Yun Xiaowu onto a rattan chair in the courtyard and began to massage her shoulders with exaggerated seriousness. Coming back to her senses, Yun Xiaowu frowned suspiciously and asked, "Yun Jiu, what are you up to this time? You’re not being manipulated by that scoundrel Bai Moyu again, are you?"
"Fifth Sister! Don’t mention that white scumbag again! From now on, he’s my enemy! I swear I’ll get my revenge on him!" Yun Jiu said through gritted teeth at the mere mention of Bai Moyu. "If it weren't for him, how could I have neglected such a wonderful Fifth Sister? How could I have become the sinner of the Yun Family? You have to believe me; I've really changed!"
Seeing her earnest demeanor made Yun Xiaowu believe her a little more, but she still warned, "You better behave yourself and not cause any trouble. Otherwise, I won’t let you off!"
"Fifth Sister, don’t worry!" Yun Jiu replied with a cheeky grin. "From now on, I’ll follow your lead. If you tell me to go east, I won’t go west. If you tell me to chase dogs away, I won’t chase chickens!" She said it so seriously that it almost made Yun Xiaowu laugh out loud. However, she managed to suppress her laughter and maintained a stern face. "Alright, enough fooling around. Let’s eat." With that, she ordered the servants to fetch dinner from the kitchen.
A quarter of an hour later, dinner was served on the table. As Yun Jiu gazed at the delicious spread before her, her eyes gleamed with a predatory intensity that startled Yun Xiaowu!
