That night, Xiao Minxing got drunk and stumbled into the hotel where I worked, slamming his wallet on the front desk without saying a word and then leaning over it.
I was already ready to leave, my bag in hand, but my colleague who was coming on the night shift stopped me and said, "Anan, don't go yet. This person is so drunk that he probably won't make it to his room. Can you help him inside?"
This kind of situation wasn't uncommon; some people would find a nearby hotel to rest when they couldn't get home after drinking too much. Usually, there would be hotel security personnel to handle such cases, but that day was strange—there wasn't a single person around.
After dragging him into the room, I finally got a good look at his face.
I was too familiar with him. Over the years, the only reason I had stayed in Haicheng was because of him, yet he knew nothing about me.
At that moment, seeing him completely out of it, his handsome features were scrunched up, with some gray dirt on his face, and his clothes were a mess with mud on his pants.
I had imagined many scenarios of encountering him, but I never expected we would switch places like this, in such different circumstances.
My feet wouldn't move. I twisted a hot towel from the bathroom and slowly wiped his face clean.
My gaze shifted to his clothes. To make him more comfortable while sleeping, I started to unbutton his shirt.
I couldn't deny that I had ulterior motives; I wanted to see how the boy from my midnight dreams had turned out after all these years. Was he still as handsome? Still as strong?
But just as I had unbuttoned a few of his buttons, he suddenly opened his eyes.
What kind of gaze was that?
Sharp and bewildering.
In an instant, it turned into something eager and filled with desire. He flipped over and pinned me beneath him, yanking off his own shirt in one swift motion.
His strength was astonishing; he held me down firmly, leaving me unable to move at all.
The air was thick with a strong scent of hormones. After hastily stripping off my clothes, he closed his eyes again, surrendering all actions to instinct.
I didn't know how many times I had longed to merge my soul with his, to become one. Now, it has finally come true. Even if this is the only time in my life, it is enough.
That night, all the details were deeply etched into my mind, becoming a long-lasting obsession. Who would have thought that the man standing before me was no longer the one I admired?
I shook my head vigorously, trying to dispel these thoughts, and when I looked up, I saw Xiao Minxing staring at me intently.
My thoughts suddenly returned, and I felt flustered and at a loss. My hand was placed between him and me, and it took me a while to remember what he had just said. I stammered in response, "Oh, okay."
His brows furrowed together, and his gaze dimmed in an instant, as if he had lost all interest. He released me and began to take off his clothes.
He spoke lightly, "Let's rest here tonight."
After saying this, he walked towards the bathroom.
I looked at the standard hotel king-size bed, my eyes aching. I couldn't understand how it had come to this.
Wasn't I just at work a moment ago while he was out with his female companion?
What would his female companion think of him doing this?
When Xiao Minxing came out, he seemed not to want to waste any more words with me. He lay down on the bed and casually picked up a magazine from the nightstand to flip through.
I stood awkwardly in the middle of the room. I couldn't go to the bed or dare to go outside. After hesitating for a long time, I could only retreat to the bathroom for a while.
When I finally emerged from a long shower, the main lights in the room were off, leaving only a dim bedside lamp on. Xiao Minxing was already asleep, still holding the book in his hand.
It was my first time seeing him asleep; he had lost all the aggression from during the day and looked somewhat like a baby. His brows were relaxed, his thick black eyebrows resting on his face, his handsome nose straight, and even his thin lips were slightly puckered with a hint of pink—unbelievably cute.
Since our marriage, we had always slept in separate rooms and never shared a bed. To him, a bed was merely a tool for release; sleeping was something sacred. In his words, he would never sleep with a dirty woman like me.
At this moment, I looked around the room and then at the large portion of the bed he had left empty. Whether it was said that I was bold or that I was cowardly, I made up my mind and climbed up from the other side.
Whatever, if I'm going to die, it will be tomorrow's problem. Today, I'll share a bed with him. It would be best if he saw me and felt like throwing up; it would be even better if he threw up to death.
Although I thought this way in my heart, I still didn't dare to get close to him and nervously lay on the other side.
At first, I was afraid to sleep, and since I had slept most of the day, I wasn't very tired. However, as I lay there, I gradually became drowsy.
When I woke up, I found myself in someone's arms. It took me a long time to connect the events of last night piece by piece.
Then I slowly shifted my gaze upward.
Oh my god, the one holding me was Xiao Minxing. He seemed still asleep, breathing evenly with a calm expression on his face. His hands were gently wrapped around my waist, and somehow we had rolled from the edge of the bed to the middle, sleeping in each other's embrace like all couples do.
I bit down hard on the blanket to keep from making a sound as panic flooded my mind.
If he woke up first and saw this scene, would he kill me on the spot? Or should I just escape?
But my body wouldn't move at all; it felt like my personality had split—one part wanted to flee in fear while another wanted to linger in this moment.
He had never treated me this way before; this unique tenderness in a dream was something I couldn't bear to waste.
Just one more minute would be fine. He wouldn't wake up so quickly; let me lie beside him a little longer.
As time went on, my desire grew stronger, and the more I wanted to stay, the harder it became to leave. Eventually, I fell asleep again.
When I woke up again, the space beside me was completely empty. The large bed had only me left on it, and there were no traces of Xiao Minxing in the room. Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains like bright lines dividing the bed in two.
I hurriedly got up and grabbed my phone to check the time. My heart sank; it was already past nine in the morning.
I can't believe how much I overslept; I didn't even notice when he left. Did he see us sleeping? What kind of expression did he have?
It's unbelievable that he didn't drag me up and beat me up.
Panicking, I returned home, but he wasn't there; he must have gone to work.
I carefully walked around the house and found nothing out of place. In fact, it was cleaner than when I wasn't working. Could it be that Xiao Minxing hired someone to clean?
That seems unlikely. This guy would love to squeeze every bit out of me. As long as I can still move, why would he hire someone else? If it got too dirty to handle, he would come looking for me first.
Thinking of this made me recall last night.
What was he doing last night? It seems like Manager didn't bother me today either, nor did he. Everything feels off; I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong, but I can't pinpoint what it is.
After thinking for a while, I decided to drive out.
I really didn't plan on going to Xiao Minxing's company; I was just bored and couldn't sleep, so I ended up driving around. Before I knew it, I had stopped right in front of his company.
As luck would have it, I ran into that man I saw in the conference room last time.
He was quite casual about it, smiling and greeting me: "Here to see President Xiao?"
I really hated myself for rolling down the window for no reason. Now, I can't even avoid going in; otherwise, people might think I'm up to something sneaky.
