Although he really looked like a child, he was already quite grown up. Usually, he seemed calm and collected, but suddenly crying so sadly made me feel that something serious must have happened. So I hurriedly asked him, "What’s wrong? Don’t cry, tell me what happened?"
Ye Guang still didn’t say anything, just sobbed for a while before hanging up the phone.
Without thinking, I dialed the same number again.
This time it rang for a long time before someone picked up, but it was a woman’s voice, very soft and gentle, as if lacking strength, asking who I was.
I shook my head for a moment to shake off the negative emotions Ye Guang had brought me and asked if this was Ye Guang's home, if he was there, and if he could come to the phone.
The woman didn’t respond to any of my questions and just told me to hold on for a moment.
Then there was silence on the other end for about a few minutes before she hung up without saying a word.
I felt a chill run down my spine; if it weren’t still early in the day, I would have thought I was seeing ghosts. One person called crying desperately without saying anything, and another person answered the phone without any response—what kind of family were they? Stranger than Xiao Minxing.
Thinking of him made me involuntarily glance over at the dining table.
Xiao Minxing was half-turned away, holding chopsticks in his hand, but his gaze was fixed intently on me.
Under the light, his face bore a rugged handsomeness mixed with an unsmiling coldness. His eyes were calm and unruffled but devoid of warmth.
I felt uncomfortable under his gaze and quickly put away my Mobile Phone. I lost my appetite and headed upstairs.
Before I could sort out my thoughts upstairs, the door to the Bedroom was pushed open, and Xiao Minxing walked in.
His expression was unfriendly as he stared directly at me, walking toward me.
Even though I hadn’t done anything wrong, seeing him like this instinctively sent chills down my spine. I couldn’t help but take a step back, only to bump into the edge of the table. A sharp pain shot through my thigh as I stumbled sideways.
Before I hit the ground, he caught me but didn’t help me up; instead, I hung suspended in mid-air.
"Where did you go today?" he asked.
My mind went blank from being suspended like that. At that moment, I didn’t dare to lie and honestly replied, "I went to find Mina and then went to the Studio, but I didn’t go up; I just stayed downstairs for a bit before coming back."
His gaze remained unchanged, and his voice was the same as before. He asked, "What happened with Ye Guang?"
I felt a bit overwhelmed and stammered, "How do you know him?"
Xiao Minxing suddenly loosened his grip on my hand, causing me to stumble and fall to the ground.
In a moment of panic, I flailed my hands in the air and managed to grab onto his suit pants, holding on tightly.
The corner of his mouth twitched, revealing that familiar mocking smile. After a long pause, he pulled me up as if I were an annoying pillow and tossed me onto the bed. Then he sat down in a chair, crossed his legs, and said, "Qiu Yuhan, do you think that since you've thrown your life away, I can't do anything to you? So you're acting recklessly, doing whatever you want?"
I was taken aback; I had never thought that way. Although it was a state I longed for, God knows I could never be that carefree. I was so afraid of him—couldn't he see that?
"Speak up. If you keep pretending to be mute, I'll cut out your tongue so you'll never have to talk again."
He leaned forward suddenly, his gaze sharp as a knife.
I quickly organized my thoughts and followed up on what he had said earlier: "No, I don't dare. In fact, I'm still very afraid of death."
"Really? If I remember correctly, you once attempted suicide. Why are you afraid of death now? Is it because the meaning of living has changed and there’s another man in your life?" he continued.
I genuinely believed this guy could consider writing scripts if he ever lost his job. His imagination was so vast that even I felt inferior as a woman.
But just as I was lost in thought, he became angry again and coldly demanded, "Speak! What were you thinking just now?"
I swallowed hard; it was too urgent for me to formulate suitable words. I blurted out, "You could write scripts."
"What?" His eyes narrowed into a crescent shape, the corners raised with an expression so cold it turned pale. He leaned forward with an imposing presence.
"You... you're overthinking," my voice began to tremble. If this continued, my courage might shatter.
He stood up and paced back and forth in front of the bed like a smiling tiger. He quickly adjusted his expression to feign a bit of friendliness and sat sideways on the edge of the bed, asking me, "So what have you been doing since I left?"
"I haven't done much," I could only avoid the heavy topics; it was best not to provoke him. Besides, his questions jumped around so much that sometimes I didn't even know what he was asking.
He hummed thoughtfully and softly asked, "Yunnan is a beautiful place; haven't you explored around?"
I could hear my own heartbeat pounding loudly as if it were about to burst from my chest.
Xiao Minxing was very close to me, so he should be able to hear me. He unexpectedly reached out his large hand and placed it on my chest, looking into my eyes and asking, "I know you’re a liar. Lying is just second nature to you, but you better honestly tell me what happened after I left. If you say one wrong thing, just think about how I will punish you today."
I swallowed hard, my throat dry, and my eyes were almost in tears from staring at him for so long. I couldn't help but wonder if he often stared at people like this; it must be exhausting. I certainly couldn't take it anymore.
I briefly explained the trip to Yunnan with Su Qian, of course avoiding all the details, just mentioning where we went, and I didn't even dare to mention Su Qian's name too much.
Xiao Minxing seemed satisfied and finally moved his hand away.
Then he changed his touch to my leg: "With such close contact with a rich and handsome guy, aren't you thinking of doing something? A woman like you who can't stand loneliness, are you really willing to let that pretty boy go?"
At that moment, Mina's words rang like a bell in my head. I nearly jumped out of bed, dodging Xiao Minxing's hand while firmly declaring my loyalty.
"I am a married woman; it's just that my husband is not here with me. I'm afraid being alone in a foreign place, so I sought companionship from friends. How could I possibly do something like that?"
With righteous indignation, I was almost moved to tears myself. But when I looked down, I saw Xiao Minxing squinting at me as if watching a farce unfold.
The courage I had just built up deflated like a balloon pricked by a needle.
However, I still didn't dare to get too close to him. I slowly slid off the bed from the other side. The spot where I had bumped into him still hurt a little, so once I stood on the ground, I didn't dare to move much. I looked down at my feet while keeping an eye on Xiao Minxing, hoping he would leave soon.
But this Good Fellow continued without end: "Didn’t I remind you to stay away from him?"
