The Camera that I took pictures with before was casually thrown on the windowsill, illuminated by sunlight, casting a dual-tone shadow.
I recalled the moment I decided to get a divorce, taking pictures throughout the entire house, then turned on the Camera, and the image immediately popped up.
The first picture was surprisingly of me.
It seemed that at that time I must have been in the kitchen, while the angle of the shot was from outside. The image was somewhat obscured by the glass, but that feeling remained.
I had my head slightly lowered, carefully stirring the soup in the pot with a spoon, my expression serious and meticulous.
There were several more pictures behind it, some taken from the side and others from behind. In each image, I wore a calm and serious expression; it wasn’t exactly happiness, but there didn’t seem to be any sorrow either.
This must have been secretly taken by Xiao Minxing after he grabbed the Camera that night. I just hadn’t looked at them again afterward and didn’t know what else he had captured.
So much time has passed that I can hardly remember my feelings back then; all I could see was my tranquil self in the photos.
Sitting there flipping through each photo one by one, my chest felt like it was blocked by a heavy stone, making it hard for me to breathe.
When the sun finally dipped below the horizon, the indoor lights appeared even brighter. I ultimately couldn’t imagine what Xiao Minxing was feeling at that moment here or what emotions he had while taking these photos.
I got up to tidy up the room and transferred all the photos from the Camera to my computer.
I hadn’t planned to leave today, so once everything in Upstairs was sorted out, I returned to the kitchen to make something for myself.
However, aside from eggs and milk in the fridge, I couldn’t find anything else.
“Well, I’ll just make do with these; after all, they’re nutritious,” I said to myself.
I turned on the stove and fried two eggs, then warmed a cup of milk. Just as I brought them out of the kitchen, I saw two people standing in the dining room, staring at me in surprise.
Xiao Minxing and Lu Yi Heng.
I don't know how long they watched, because the light coming from the kitchen didn't reach them, yet they could see me from this position.
However, when I also saw them, Xiao Minxing quietly said to Lu Yi Heng beside him, "You should go back first."
The person didn’t say anything, but his gaze at me contained a lot of things, as if he was very defensive of me.
I found it a bit funny; could I really do anything to Xiao Minxing at home? Even if something were to happen, it would be him to me, right?
Besides, we had just met yesterday; seeing each other again today wasn't a big deal. Previously, when he went to work, it seemed to be the same, the only difference being that he was sick now.
I placed the eggs and milk on the table and looked at Lu Yi Heng, who was still standing there, saying, "Mr. Lu, if you're not in a hurry, you can stay for dinner. It's just a bit simple; there are only these two items."
Xiao Minxing frowned, his eyes deep like an unfathomable pool of water.
He really didn't look sick; in fact, he appeared even more alert than usual.
Surprisingly, he walked over before Lu Yi Heng and sat steadily at the dining table. He took the food I had just placed down in front of him and said, "Alright, then make two more servings."
I turned to look at Lu Yi Heng; he also had a bewildered expression on his face as he stared at Xiao Minxing, who had already started eating without saying a word.
In any case, my food was gone. Those two fried eggs weren't enough for him; he swallowed them in two bites and then drank more than half a cup of milk in one go, with some white liquid still on the corner of his mouth.
If I didn't cook, I would only end up hungry myself. So with a head full of questions, I went to the kitchen first.
However, Lu Yi Heng followed me and stood at the entrance. He waited until I poured the fried eggs onto a plate before asking, "Why are you back?"
I tilted my head and smiled at him: "This is my home; can't I come back?"
Lu Yi Heng had a strange expression on his face—somewhat awkward but trying to maintain composure as he said, "That's not what I meant."
I took another egg and cracked it into the pot, then asked him, "What do you mean by showing me that he is actually fine, and that it was just a tactic you all used? Don't you feel a bit embarrassed?"
Lu Yi Heng's body moved slightly.
I thought he would say something more, but instead, I saw him turn and walk away, not back to the dining table but straight out the door.
Soon, the lights of a car flashed in the yard. I watched as his car drove out of the gate before I went to warm up the milk again.
In fact, everyone is not that simple. I was still feeling guilty for treating Xiao Minxing so coldly at night, while they had been acting in front of me all afternoon.
Perhaps Xiao Minxing really is sick, but today he didn't have an episode; it was Lu Yi Heng who wanted to see how I would react.
I put the food back on the table. Xiao Minxing was still sitting there, looking at me with a deep expression, not speaking or reaching for any food.
I couldn't quite understand what was wrong with me. When I had deceived him before, I felt guilty, but knowing that he had used the same method against me seemed to release all my past grievances, and I felt a slight anger.
We are all similar people; who has the right to criticize whom?
I finished eating calmly, leaving not a single crumb behind.
He didn't speak, and I didn't want to either. I got up and headed upstairs.
It seemed that I couldn't stay here tonight; I should pack my things and leave quickly.
I packed my computer and printer into a box. Most of my clothes were bought by Xiao Minxing, and now that I'm pregnant, there would be fewer opportunities to wear them in the future. So I didn't take any of them, only packing a pair of flats in my bag.
Before I could leave, Xiao Minxing came in.
I had actually expected him to come; with his personality, how could he just watch me walk away from him?
"Where are you going?" he asked.
I smiled at him and glanced around the room, saying, "As long as it's not here, it's fine."
His brows furrowed, and his teeth clenched tightly. After a while, he asked, "Do you think Yi Heng deceived you?"
"Isn't it? You don't have any illness; you're just looking for a reason to continue tormenting me."
At this, his expression changed, and his breathing became rapid.
Based on past experiences, this was a sign of anger. I felt a bit guilty; after all, if I really confronted him now, the tragedies of the past could very well repeat themselves.
But deep down, I thought painfully, "Whatever. If I can't protect this child any longer, then he can go with him. Consider it the price I pay for hastily marrying Xiao Minxing in this lifetime."
However, the anticipated storm did not occur. He stared at me for several seconds before suddenly turning around and swiftly exiting the Bedroom.
Just as I breathed a sigh of relief, I saw him turn back again, his voice harsh as he said, "Alright, it seems you've made up your mind. Then let's do it tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? What for?" I asked in confusion.
Xiao Minxing suddenly laughed, but the smile only lingered on his face; his gaze remained fierce as he looked directly at me.
"What else could we do? What else can happen between us? Haven't you always wanted a divorce? Then let's get divorced. I never want to see you again in this lifetime, Qiu Yuhan."
