After getting on the car, he asked, "Where to?"
I was momentarily confused, thinking it might be better to just go home directly. I could find Guan Mingyue after he left.
However, Xiao Minxing spoke up before I could, saying in a calm tone, "I heard that Su Daguzi had a car accident today, at the hospital where Yi Heng is. Do you want to go see him?"
I immediately turned my face towards him, my tone changing, "Car accident? When did this happen?"
Xiao Minxing also turned to look at me, his expression not good. After a few seconds of pause, he replied, "Around noon. But you don't need to worry; it wasn't too serious. I heard he was rescued quickly."
Life and death are serious matters, and since they went to rescue him, it surely wasn't taken lightly.
I quickly took out my mobile phone and checked the missed call from earlier that day.
The time was also around noon; I just didn't know if he had the accident because he made that call or if he called me after the accident.
In any case, whenever I faced difficulties, Su Qian had always helped me without hesitation. As a friend, he was absolutely reliable. I could keep my distance when things were fine, but at this moment, I couldn't remain calm at all.
Thinking about this made me even more anxious as I peered out the window.
Xiao Minxing didn't say anything else, but the car's speed noticeably increased compared to when we first started. However, it was rush hour outside with many people and cars, so even if he wanted to speed up, we occasionally encountered traffic jams.
By the time we arrived at the hospital, it was already past nine o'clock.
I first called Guan Mingyue to find out where she was before turning back to Xiao Minxing and saying, "I'm going up to see him; why don't you head back?"
Xiao Minxing pulled the corners of his mouth, but there was no hint of a smile.
"I'll go up with you. Since we're all friends, I should check on him."
I looked at him, doubting whether my ears were malfunctioning.
Xiao Minxing said he was friends with Su Qian? If Su Qian had said that, I wouldn't have found it strange at all. After all, he is a relatively smooth person; whether or not he is friends with someone doesn't matter much to him, but he can articulate his relationships with everyone quite well.
But Xiao Minxing is different. He is sharp-edged and unwilling to conform to others. He rarely uses the word "friend," and even in his relationship with Lu Yi Heng, he seldom says much. One can only see their deep bond through the little interactions they share.
Now he wants to go see Su Qian with me. Is it really to visit him in the hospital, or is there another reason? It's hard to say. I can't forget that time when they nearly got into a fight over a child-related issue in the hospital.
"What, are you afraid I'll take this opportunity to beat him up?" Xiao Minxing had already taken two steps out and stood under the streetlight outside the hospital, turning back to ask me.
I didn't dare look at him and quickly replied, "No, you're not that kind of person... right?"
Xiao Minxing probably saw through my unease and squinted at me, asking, "Really?"
I could barely complete my sentence and didn't bother to push him away; I stepped into the hospital first.
He followed me into the elevator. His expression had already softened, and his tone was even more enthusiastic than before. Looking at the elevator buttons lighting up as we ascended, he said, "Speaking of which, I should thank Dr. Guan."
I felt a bit bewildered and turned to look at his upright figure in surprise.
His physique has always been good, but it's evident that he has lost a lot of weight since I first met him; even his cheekbones are more pronounced, making him appear even less approachable.
Yet this person just mentioned thanking a doctor who had only treated him temporarily.
If it were someone else, it would be fine, but Xiao Minxing is different. I have hardly heard similar words from him; he usually keeps his feelings deeply hidden and doesn't mind others seeing his anger at all.
The Elevator door opened just in time. He glanced at me, said nothing, and stepped out first.
After I followed him out, I saw Guan Mingyue standing not far from the Elevator. However, when she saw Xiao Minxing, her expression clearly changed, as if she was quite surprised.
Although Xiao Minxing had expressed his gratitude earlier, he did not take the initiative to greet her when he saw her now. He didn’t say a word of thanks either but stood there waiting for me for a moment.
Watching me go over to greet Guan Mingyue before moving forward, he then slowly followed behind.
I still didn't know what the relationship between Guan Mingyue and Su Qian was. Now that I was with Xiao Minxing, I didn't dare to ask too much; I just wanted to quickly see how Su Qian was doing and hoped he really wasn't in serious trouble.
Outside the Surgery ward stood Mina and Zhuo Feng.
They had obviously seen us too, so Mina ran over first, pulling me aside and whispering, "Why are you here? I was worried you would find out about this."
"Why?" I asked her.
Mina glanced at Xiao Minxing before quietly saying, "You are currently pregnant and a key protection target. It's better for you to know as little as possible about things that could be emotionally distressing."
"I'm not as fragile as you think. Besides, Su Qian has helped me so much before; if I don't come to see him while he's lying inside, that would be too ungrateful."
After saying this, I pressed her again, "How is he doing? Is it serious?"
Mina shook her head and said, "It's not too serious, but he will need to stay in the hospital for a few days."
Feeling somewhat relieved, I took a breath and asked her, "Why are you all standing outside? Aren't you going in to see him?"
Mina glanced into the distance and said, "We've already checked. His family is also in the hospital room, so it's not very convenient. We're just about to head back."
"His family is there?"
This was indeed a bit surprising, but Mina shot me a look and said, "Yes, with such a big incident, of course, the first thing he would do is contact his family. Do you think everyone is like your family, Xiao Minxing, who wouldn't even tell their family when they're sick?"
I almost wanted to cover her mouth, and my eyes instinctively turned to Xiao Minxing.
Sure enough, because her voice was a bit loud, the two men over there, including Guan Mingyue, looked over at us simultaneously.
Xiao Minxing's expression was the strangest; the corners of his mouth were turned up in a knowing smirk that felt all too familiar, leaving me momentarily stunned and forgetting that Mina was still standing beside me.
It wasn't until she tugged at me that I snapped back to reality and shot her a glare, saying, "You know he doesn't want others to know, yet you say it so loudly. What are you trying to achieve?"
After saying that, I walked over to Xiao Minxing first.
While I was talking to Mina earlier, he had also greeted Zhuo Feng. By now, he should have known that Su Qian's hospital room had family members in it, so he casually said, "It's getting late today; let's buy some gifts tomorrow morning and come back."
However, Guan Mingyue spoke up before I could and her voice was quite loud: "Since we're already here, we might as well go in and take a look."
This statement clearly seemed directed at the people inside the room; we had no chance to leave now.
