Xiao Minxing stood in the middle, looked carefully and said, "Just bring one desk over tomorrow."
I felt a bit guilty and softly said, "The light here is a bit dim, so maybe we shouldn't separate it after all? Anyway, you work during the day, and I won't be drawing at night, so we don't spend much time here together."
He turned to look at me and said seriously, "Maybe there will be more time in the future?"
I didn't quite understand what he meant, but Xiao Minxing didn't seem to care at all. He had already started moving the box for the books over, stacking thick books neatly on the bookshelf.
"A single desk lamp can solve everything. You don't need to worry. As for you, you should get more sunlight in the future. It's best to go out for a walk before ten in the morning. Even if you're sitting at home, try to sit in the sunlight as much as possible."
He didn't turn around while saying this, and his tone was very calm.
These words could also be said by an Obstetrician. Every time I went for a prenatal check-up, they would remind me about what kind of food is more nutritious and that I should exercise and get more sunlight. According to them, modern people spend too much time indoors, which is why many have to choose cesarean sections when giving birth due to physical reasons; if one were to give birth naturally, they might not even have the strength.
I didn't have much concept of this at first, but after hearing it so many times, I began to think about having a cut made on my belly, which is indeed quite frightening. So I consciously started exercising, hoping that I could give birth naturally when the time comes.
Since I became pregnant, Xiao Minxing had also almost divorced. We rarely talked about the child; mainly because I was afraid of accidentally revealing the child's background to him.
He usually only asked something like "Is everything okay?" and nothing more.
However, today his words almost made me doubt if he was an Obstetrician. He spoke very naturally and casually without even looking at me much while sharing those brief parenting tips.
By the end of it, I couldn't help but ask him, "How do you know all this?"
He turned back to look at me and casually replied, "I read books. Don't you read books yourself?"
I certainly watched it, but later there were too many things going on, and I was busy drawing. Plus, I went for check-ups every month, and if there were any issues, I would just go directly to the Doctor to resolve them. The books I bought are still sitting on the shelf.
But why is Xiao Minxing reading such books?
Before I could ask, he spoke first: "You've been kind enough to help me, so I should be of some use too. Besides, isn't this child mine? It's only right to do something for him."
He said it so naturally that I didn't react at first. When I finally realized, I was surprised and asked him, "Did you plan this all along?"
His gaze was somewhat disdainful as he looked at me for a while before saying, "Qiu Yuhan, your intelligence really has no hope. Do you think I would believe a lie from you?"
Now I not only felt that his moving in with me was unusual, but even the divorce seemed to have been planned by him. Otherwise, why would he have been so adamant about not getting divorced at first, only to agree to it so decisively later? Even the agreement was prepared in advance.
This isn't his style; he wouldn't take risks without solid assurance. Unfortunately, at that time, I didn't think of this at all.
But what good does it do to think about it now? Things had long since returned to his control, and aside from being confused about the previous issue, I didn't know what else to say.
"Since you already knew, why did you still want to divorce me?" I looked at him with hope that he had only realized this after the divorce. Although there wasn't much difference in essence, at least it wouldn't make me seem so lacking in intelligence.
However, Xiao Minxing has never been a considerate person. Upon hearing my question, he even put down the book in his hand and slowly walked up to me. He looked into my eyes for a long time before saying, "You didn't take a single word of what I told you yesterday seriously, did you?"
Yesterday? He said so much yesterday, and many of his words were left unfinished. Now I couldn't recall any of it; all I remembered was that we had spent a whole day together and ended up lying back on his bed.
He seemed intrigued and took another step forward, his body almost pressing against mine, forcing me to retreat until my back hit the wall.
Xiao Minxing's hand pressed against the wall; one arm along with his body completely enclosed me within his space, creating an oppressive atmosphere.
His gaze towards me also held a hint of danger, flickering with small flames as if he wanted to burn me away.
"Can't remember? Let me help you recall, okay?" Xiao Minxing said, his body inching closer with each word.
The warmth of his breath was already brushing against my face, both ticklish and hot. I wanted to pull away, but he was in every direction; any slight movement would bring me directly against him.
Although I knew he wasn't lacking for women, I never realized he was so skilled at flirting. He perfectly controlled the distance between us—close enough to feel, yet not quite touching—teasing me with his tone and voice. The moment I moved, I would fall into his embrace.
I felt like a small mouse being toyed with by a cunning cat, trying to shrink my body against the wall.
His gaze grew deeper, the fire within him subdued but the desire bubbling beneath the surface was hard to hide. He probably didn't intend to conceal it, as he smirked and said, "What if before the divorce, I insisted that the child is mine? What would you do?"
What could I do? Besides stubbornly denying it, I had no other way out.
Xiao Minxing seemed to have seen through my thoughts and continued, "You would deny it. If I pressed hard enough, you might even jump over the wall, right?"
"I shouldn't think so. I can't jump over walls," my voice was already slipping from my control, speaking slowly as words tumbled out without passing through my brain, leaving me unsure of what I was saying.
However, this made him laugh and nod slightly.
The tips of his hair brushed against my forehead, cheeks, and ears as he leaned down, as if wanting me to see his expression clearly. He said, "You're right; you won't jump over walls, but you might bite."
Hearing this made me realize he was insulting me. In anger, I abruptly lifted my head, and it seemed he had been waiting for this moment. His lips captured mine in an instant, giving me no chance to resist as he kissed me deeply.
