Just as I was about to ask again, Jin Ke knocked on the door from outside and called that it was time to eat.
Xiao Minxing immediately stood up and reached out an arm to pull me up, saying, "Let's go eat first; we still have time tonight to chat slowly."
Jin Ke had prepared a lot of dishes today, and they were all her specialties.
I was very satisfied with her cooking, so while eating, I intentionally introduced the dishes to Xiao Minxing. He remained expressionless, but after each introduction, he would put the dish into my bowl, making it seem as if we were a loving couple.
In front of Jin Ke, I certainly couldn't refute anything. With Xiao Minxing's personality, he wouldn't care if anyone was around; he would do whatever he wanted. If he did something "astonishing," it would be even more embarrassing.
Thinking of this, I could only eat one by one and later didn't dare to say anything to him.
After dinner, Xiao Minxing and I sat in the living room watching television. It was an entertainment program, so after Jin Ke finished washing the dishes, she came over to join us.
Since she arrived here, I had never treated her as an outsider. Moreover, having her around gave me a sense of security when interacting with Xiao Minxing. I smiled and quietly discussed the plot of the show with her.
Xiao Minxing sat for about ten minutes before getting up and going to the study room.
I didn't pay much attention; I just glanced in that direction. Instead, it was Jin Ke who got up and said, "Xiao Zong has gone to the study room; I'll go make him a cup of tea."
That was a good thing; someone was taking care of him. At least I didn't have to nod at her like before and say, "Go ahead."
But then I suddenly remembered something and asked, "Do we have any tea leaves?"
Jin Ke smiled and said, "Yes, I bought some today. I just didn't know what flavor Xiao Zong likes, so I bought a little of each kind. We can add more later if it's not enough."
Watching her go to the kitchen to get the kettle, I genuinely felt it was a bit of a waste for her to be a maid. It wasn't professional discrimination; it was just that with her intelligence and dedication, she could excel in any other field.
I rarely drank tea before; when living with Xiao Minxing, we mostly had milk and juice at home. If I drank water myself, it was just plain boiled water. After moving here and due to my pregnancy, I couldn't even touch tea leaves anymore, so I hadn't stocked any.
I didn't expect that when Xiao Minxing's luggage arrived at noon, Jin Ke would have prepared tea leaves by the afternoon. It was quite thoughtful; I hadn't even thought of it.
After they left, I sat for a while longer before getting up to take a shower and rest.
These past two days spent with Xiao Minxing had not only kept me from drawing but also from reading books. I felt like my brain had gotten rusty. It would be best if I could read a bit before sleeping so that when I officially started writing tomorrow, I could pick up where I left off.
Coming out of the bathroom, the light in the Study Room was still on. Jin Ke was standing alone on the terrace outside the Living Room, seemingly lost in thought.
As I walked over, she suddenly snapped back to reality and asked me, "Sister An, are you going to bed?"
"Yes, could you warm up a cup of milk for me and wash some grapes?" This was something I asked for every day. The Obstetrician said that every pregnant woman’s appetite increases, but because there is a fetus in the belly, it actually compresses the stomach, causing them to eat less than usual. Therefore, I was advised to keep some fruit in my room at night so that if I got hungry, I could have some to supplement my vitamins and fill my stomach.
Of course, Jin Ke had been doing these things since she arrived, regardless of whether I asked her to or not.
Sometimes when she saw me going in to take a shower, she would prepare the fruit ahead of time. Today, she seemed tired as her expression looked somewhat weary.
So after saying this, I added, "It's nothing much; you should get some rest soon too."
Her eyes immediately glanced toward the Study Room.
I understood and softly said, "Don't mind him; he’s a workaholic."
Seeing Jin Ke nod, I returned to my room. After a while, she came back in and placed a plate of assorted fruits on the bedside table before stepping out again.
I sat in the soft chair in the Bedroom and picked up the book I hadn’t finished reading.
I had only read a few pages when my eyelids grew heavy and I decided to get into bed.
When I woke up at night to go to the bathroom, I didn’t check the time; it was only when I returned and noticed that the light in the Study Room was still on that I remembered Xiao Minxing was staying here.
Could he really still be awake?
Thinking this, I quietly pushed open the door. To my surprise, Xiao Minxing wasn’t inside; instead, Jin Ke was sitting alone in Xiao Minxing's side of the Study Room, reading a book.
When she saw me enter, she clearly froze for a moment before quickly closing the book and hurriedly standing up from her chair. She softly said, "Sister An, you’re still awake."
I took a couple of steps inside and said, "I just woke up from a nap. Why haven’t you gone to rest yet?"
A slight blush appeared on her face as she replied softly, "I was reading for a bit."
I smiled at her and said, "You can read anytime here; why stay up late? Go to bed now; otherwise, you'll have panda eyes tomorrow."
Jin Ke had already stood up from her chair. Hearing what I said, she hurriedly agreed and walked out.
I called out to her, saying, "You can read outside from now on, just don't go to Xiao Zong's place. He doesn't like others touching his things, and I'm afraid he might get angry and blame you."
Jin Ke hurriedly agreed and left without looking back.
I turned off the light in the Study Room and returned to my own room. Looking at the time on my Mobile Phone, it was already past one in the Night. However, perhaps because I had just talked to someone, I couldn't fall asleep right away after getting into bed; instead, I started thinking about Jin Ke.
Since she came to my house, aside from taking care of me, there were no other restrictions. She ate whatever I ate, and of course, she could enter the Study Room anytime. She even read the Comic books in there more than I did, thanks to having more free time and being a fast reader.
During the day, while I was drawing inside, she would sit and read. The books I bought were finished by her in less than half a month. Later on, she even got a library card from the Library and would borrow books to read whenever she had time.
I certainly appreciated her proactive attitude and felt that being with her made me want to learn more as well.
However, she rarely stayed up late in the Study Room. Sometimes when I sat in there for a while at night, she would go back to her room.
Today was different; why would she sit in there for so long? And why did she go to Xiao Minxing's place? When she left, I deliberately glanced at her; she was holding a thick book that didn't look like mine. If it were her own book, she should have read it in her room.
Could it be that she was reading Xiao Minxing's book?
Actually, I didn't think much of her reading his book. Books are different from other things; I believe that having more people read them reflects greater value, which is a good thing. So I didn't pay much attention to it and even thought about how to cover for her if Xiao Minxing asked about it, so she wouldn't get caught in unnecessary trouble.
After eating a few pieces of fruit, I got up to rinse my mouth and then went back to sleep. It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up and saw breakfast on the table that I felt something was off.
